Armored Core

Recent AC Fan here who finished 1 and 3 (started around when AC6 was announced), but I appreciate the professional and no-nonsense way that these games start. You pop in the game, load in, immediately fight a battle to become a raven with NO TUTORIAL, and then the game starts proper. Its something that really sets the tone for who you are as a Raven right away and it also makes for a very good first impression in my personal opinion. If there was any feature I would want to make a grand return in AC6, it'd probably be that one along with Human Plus and losing money upon failing missions. I know its a game philosophy of a bygone era, but now that FS is known for being "the game studio that makes hard games", there might be hope.

Most Human+/OP-INTENSIFY upgrades are already available from the start from AC4 onward. As for going into debt to receive more advantages, recent interviews confirmed that debt system will not be in AC6.

Damn, do you have a source for the interview? I know nothing about AC6 outside the second trailer and what has been said in the thread.

I've forgotten most of my experiences with Armored Core. I wonder if I shouldn't emulate some of the older ones before this 6 releases...

I just want a fucking gameplay demo from garage to end of mission with HUD to know what the fuck the real deal is. That will dispel ALL the bullshit in a single swoop. And with release in less than 4 months I hope we don't have to wait too much for that one.

Agreed. I'm not worried about the game, the Miyazaki interview destroyed any anxiety I had about it not being an armored core game. I just want the gameplay so these people will finally shut up.

Because armored core isn't dark souls but mech. For fuck sales, not everything with telegraphed attacks, lock-on, stamina, etc. Is a fucking souls games. I love souls, but not everything needs to be a homogenous sludge of souls mechanics.

I'm a huge soulsfag and I hope there's not a whiff of souls. I hope it's so far outside Vaati's purview that he bombs out of covering the game period.

I'll have you know that Super Mario World was a souls like, because when Roy Koopa climbed up the wall, he would drop himself from the ceiling at the point you were currently standing, moment where you would dodge and attack during the vulnerability frames. Truly the essence of a soulslike!

But yes, I'm starting to get pretty annoyed that "good game design" found in a From game suddenly makes it a souls like. Playing AC3 nothing reacts to getting shot, be it the enemy or me, having staggers just seems like an addition that has been around in modern gaming for a while. Yes, they used it in a souls game, doesn't mean it's INHERENT to a souls game, it's just a lesson they learned to make things more dynamic and to give positive feedback to the player that they are doing something right. And if I understand correctly, staggering was introduced in a later AC anyway.

I'm pretty sure in all of the games if you get hit by high impact weapons there's a bit of hit stun that interrupts all your controls and aiming, but I never noticed anything close to a DS stagger in 1-Nexus in my recent playthroughs.

Could be I just haven't noticed it. In AC3 only time I properly get huge feedback is when something overheats and alarms are blaring, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't fuck with my facing or whatever I'm doing at that specific moment. And I'm completely fine with this, enemy ACs are already dancing around me for the most part, last thing is losing control for a couple of seconds while desperately keeping them in my sights.

I absolutely love souls but I’m primarily interested in AC6 because it’s the first fromsoft game in years that DOESN’T have anything to do with souls.

"Muddied the waters" and this nigger said he played most AC games. Like how fucking retarded do you have to be to not understand that the reason FromSoft has to go out of their way to clarify that IT IS AN ARMORED CORE GAME is because IT PLAYS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM SOULS? The "Soulslike with mech" angle he's trying to push is getting really fucking annoying at this point.

As I said earlier in the thread, I got physical copies of all the PS3/360-era games, but it appears to me that none of the previous games are long either, so I might just go back to the very start via emulation. I've barely dealt with emulators, though, so I have to ask: What are the go-to emulators and libraries for the PS1 and PS2?

I wonder if From intends on making AC6 significantly longer to meet the greater expectations set on them now.
