Armored Core

Just finished the arena, and I was using my generalist/mission build (medium humanoid. linear rifle, laser blade, missile launcher, songbird launcher), with my only change swapping out the laser blade (the one with the wide sweeping attack) to the laser lance.

You just facerush the enemy, laser lance them (usually breaking them) and then grenades to the face.

I liked the sweeping laser blade since it was good for missions, letting you out multiple mooks if they were bunched up, but the laser lance lets you be aggressive against bosses.

I'd probably be dogshit against actual human opponents.

Balteus conquered. His missiles weren't much of an issue after a couple of attempts, but his fucking flamethrower kept wrecking my shit. Respec'd my kit to focus more on ripping away his shield and racking up as much damage as possible as fast as possible without losing too much speed to outmaneuver him.

I really, really, really didn't want to grind out money to buy tankier parts even though I knew just being able to tank more flamethrower hits would have helped.

Y'all bitch and moan about Balteus, just wait until you fight V.II Snail in his Balty cope cage.
I honestly felt like it was easier than Baltheus on the first time through. Between being so early in the game and being stuck with early parts, I definitely spent more time trying to beat Baltheus. Snail only took like 2 attempts for me.

Being able to properly play an Armored Core game with a mouse and keyboard has really been a game changer for me. I think 90% of the challenge of Armored Core games comes from having to fight the controls. Maybe less so in AC4 and beyond, but anything older than that would give you fucking arthritis.

That's the most reddit brained thing I've ever heard.
I mean, they're technically not wrong. The game now runs smoother and faster and that requires better reflexes. Also the AI does sometimes get smarter.

I haven't had a chance to play yet, but I remember that being the case in a few other games that use that piece of shit software.

I called it " Unlimited American Freedom: Maximum Nigger Annihilation Mode"
I've won most of my few 1v1's online and anyone who isn't also running a heavy build can't really put up a fight unless they can stay high up in the air and rain fire down. I actually prefer lighter builds with more focus on dodging in most games but I'm having a lot more trouble dodging in this one than I usually do in the Souls games so I'm just sticking with heavy for now. Having a lot of fun but I just got stuck in the chapter 4 boss who I'm not sure I can beat with this build.

Try using two stun needles instead of your missiles on the chapter 4 boss. If you wait for them to stop moving then hit them with both sneedles they will be instantly stun locked, allowing you to shred them with the gatlings. The funny wheelchair is better for handling them because of its speed, but it should be doable with the big tank too.

Use two anti ice worm guns on your shoulders and either two precision bazookas I think they’re called, or two majestic bazookas. Using this build mash the buttons like you wanna get arthritis. All four of these make for a huge stagger builder and damage dealer.

Beat Balteus after about 20 tries he's not as bad as i thought he'd be, ended up going 4X laser weapons sadly couldnt fit reverse legs on it until after that fight.

The following post contains sperging about the 3 endings and should not be read before you finish Armored Core VI

Story/Ending grievances:
The force that drives the plot and that all the corpos are after is "Coral", a weird symbiotic thing that puts a schizo voice in your head but can potentially be used as an inexhaustible fuel source. The planet the coral "grows" on is an utter shithole with only a few stragglers left on it that want to stay there because muh planet.

In the "bad" ending, the shithole planet and the coral gets blown up by Walter, who seems to genuinely care for 621 and Carla, a mildly insane, but easy-going and funny person/AI, because they realize this shit is dangerous and just leads to suffering. You also get to get rid of the schizo voice in your head by stabbing/exploding/lasering it.

The "good" ending preserves the shithole and you kill the people who gave a fuck about you and you get to live with a weird voice in your head.

The "true" ending has both your buddies killed off in the background by big bad. The big bad, who was supposed to be this incredible intellectual force that 4d chesses everything and only picks the best of the best in absolute secrecy, has recruited and elected to mind merge with the most loudmouth retard around who manages to overcome the coral mind link through....schizo rage. You defeat him. Now the schizo voices are all over the universe.

I heard that FROM makes the maps, enemies, gameplay mechanics etc. first and then just shoehorns a story in - but am I missing something here or is this just legitimately dumb?

Story/Ending grievances:
I think a lot of people shoehorn in the "good" "bad" and "true" descriptions in for the ending because they're brainlets. I don't think any of the endings are that clear cut nor are they intended to be.
It's implied that Walter was one of the original institute scientists working on coral before the Fires of Ibis, so not only does he have a background working with this stuff but also personally experienced what happens when use of coral goes very wrong. Carla is similar in that regard (explained by her nickname), so they work together. Carla is a real person but her sidekick is an AI.

Schizo head-wife thinks a proper symbiosis is possible and would elevate both the Coral entity/entities and humanity. In some fairness, since she has bonded with you and presumably not driven you to gibbering insanity, she has a point. But a sample size of 1 isn't exactly significant. I really think people shoehorn this into the "good" category because you get to keep your head-wife, fight alongside your chill war buddy, and the plucky fremen-stand-in resistance movement rises up and kicks the corps and PCA off the planet (or at least gives them a good kick in the teeth). But if Walter and Carla are right and/or Ayre is wrong about symbiosis being attainable then the problem isn't actually solved.

For the third ending, I haven't reached it yet (halfway through NG++, so getting there) but I've already been spoiled anyway. There were four candidates for the "release" program, which is Allmind trying to do something similar to what Ayre wants, but with it as the overriding intelligence of the gestalt. Anyway, of the four candidates one of them is you, the other one was killed by you (Sulla), I forget who the third one is, and the final one is the assmad autist that you mention. I think Allmind was just going with what was available when it came time to bring things to a close. Unfortunately, the searing buttrage G5 feels towards you was so great that he took over and fucked everything up.

That seemed to be my takeaway as well. I also expected some explanation about the PCA (and why they seem to be tied to the Corral), the merc group the real Raven works for, and Kate from NG++ but I either never got any of that, missed it entirely, or it was buried in repeat dialog between the NGs that I skipped. I guess Kate is just ALLMIND AI or something? There was no explanation on her besides Ayre saying she didn't show up anywhere. In chapter 4 the Redguns also yell at you for betraying them even if you hadn't taken any of the missions to kill them so far, which I never understood. I did enjoy bullying Iguazu by taking every anti-Redgun missions in NG++ and then killing him at the end though. The "bad" ending doesn't make a lot of sense to me either. Carla and Walter seem to be either from or associated with the past of Rubicon so following their choice on what to do with the planet seemed to make more sense than listening to retarded AI waifu, but Ayre is also a bitch. Ayre also rants about how "you're a spark of war" or something as you beat her to death, nigga your proposal is "lmao just leave the planet so the corps can use it to make weapons and shit".

Speaking of NGs, the choice to put AC vs AC battles as NG+/NG++ missions instead of having them in NG sucked. Why you hiding the good missions behind repeat playthroughs? Fuck you. The game has a surprising clear rate on Steam at the moment as well, 8% have completed all missions (so NG++) and 1.4% have done 100%. Terrible by a normal standard but game completion is usually pretty bad.

Well, working on NG++, and I'm now letting myself use twin Zimmermans with the Ashmead for follow ups.

These are so busted but so fun. Feels kind of brain-dead to use, but it's NG++, brain-dead's acceptable for the repeat missions.

Like another said, there’s no real good or bad ending. YouTubers just like to put that in their titles. All the endings are pretty ambiguous. Don’t get me wrong though the story is still shit.
