I hate Ubisoft so fucking much it's unreal.
The moment they make an AC game with a lot of potential regarding time period and a country with a history of tales and legends of dangerous assassins, shinobi, ninja, ... they already just fuck it up before release.
Can't they make a game without niggers for once, just once?

What is katana hype?
To use the sword community's wording, "Katana cultist" hyped up the sword as the best sword ever to an absurd cringe level, only for weapon history buffs to dispel the myths (and now
sword community is overhyping the cons of the katana, but that's a whole other can of worms).

Samurai Yasuke The Legendary Black Samurai™ is that Katana hype.

I wonder if they’ll continue the habit (since Odyssey, though I believe they ruined Jacob Frye like this too) of faggot protags with Yasuke. You just know half the people beating their chest over this will get real quiet then.

ETA:
The “Japanese expert” they hired is a Japanese fag history professor. :story: You couldn’t make this up with a million years and a crystal ball.

EVERY.
FUCKING.
TIME.

It's worth pointing out the leaks that happened a while back (I believe it was in 2020) where it revealed corporate was constantly interfering to prevent devs from going full retard because devs kept trying to make a female protagonist the main focus. Evie was suppose to have more screentime in Syndicate but corporate jumped in. Origins was suppose to have Bayek die early on so you'd play as Aya as the actual lead, kinda like AC3 with the Haytham to Connor switchup. Odyssey was only suppose to have Kassandra as a playable character but corporate came in and told them to make a male protagonist. The leaks never mentioned anything about Valhalla but I wouldn't be surprised if Eivor was suppose to only be female and then corporate said "make a male choice" so they just grabbed the Odin VA, as the stated canon choice is female Eivor and male Odin.
I remember this hubbub at the time and always found it to be highly suspicious. As a reminder, I believe it all originated from Jason Schreier writing an article for Bloomberg that was actually about accusations of sexual misconduct at Ubisoft, a big controversy at the time:
The machismo of Ubisoft’s offices seeps into the company’s games, current and former employees say. Ubisoft’s biggest franchise is Assassin’s Creed, a series of open-world action-adventure games in which players explore historic settings and sneak around killing people. Most games in the series star male protagonists. This has been a point of contention as far back as 2014, when an Ubisoft creative director said Assassin’s Creed Unity wouldn’t let people play online as female characters because “it was really a lot of extra production work” to add women’s clothing and animations to the game.

For the next game, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, an early outline of the script gave equal screen time to the twin protagonists, Jacob and Evie, according to three people who worked on the project. In the end, Jacob dominated the game. Assassin’s Creed Origins, released in 2017, was originally going to injure or kill off its male hero, Bayek, early in the story and give the player control of his wife, Aya, according to two people who worked on it. But Aya’s role gradually shrank over the course of development and Bayek became the leading figure.

Development of 2018’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey went much the same way. The game tells the story of siblings Kassandra and Alexios. The team originally proposed making the sister the only playable character, according to four people who worked on the game, until they were told that wasn’t an option. The final product gives players a choice between the two characters.

Current and former Ubisoft employees say these changes, which haven’t been previously reported, are illustrative of the sexism ingrained within the company. All of the directives came from Ubisoft’s marketing department or from Hascoët, both of whom suggested female protagonists wouldn’t sell, the developers say. This false perception has been commonly held in the video game industry for decades. It ignores hits such as the Tomb Raider series or Sony Corp.’s Horizon Zero Dawn, which sold more than 10 million copies.

Developers say they were compelled to make big compromises to avoid changes from Hascoët that might be detrimental to their project or result in outright cancellation. For example, Hascoët openly expressed disdain for linear storytelling and cut scenes, the interstitial videos that exist between gameplay to advance the narrative. The writers had to find ways to keep his attention, and often that involved installing a strong male lead, the employees say.

Knowing the bias of Jason Schreier and game journalists in general, the vagueness of these claims about game development, and these being revealed as evidence of sorts to broader accusations of sexism in upper management, I honestly believe that "originally" is doing a lot of heavy lifting to suggest greater intention and consensus than there actually was in development. I rather suspect that such emphasis on female protagonists was simply one idea out of many in the early stages of development when the most brainstorming happens, then losing out not just because of upper management having final say, but also because it is extremely obvious that male protagonists sell better and are more fitting for historically-themed violent video games. In the case of Syndicate in particular, I also suspect that "in the end, Jacob dominated the game" because cuts in consideration for time and money had to be made over the course of development as usual for video games, so Jacob's content got to be retained because it was (correctly) figured that more people would want to play as him than Evie.

A major reason why I have these suspicions is because I know for sure that the original controversy about there being no playable female character in Unity's online co-op mode is a load of hogwash. The reason why there is no such female character is not because of sexism, but simply because all players in the co-op mode appear as Arno and all of the fine-tuned functionality and clothing customization he entails from the main single-player mode. And yes, having an additional female character option that is on par with the main protagonist, including that variety of cosmetic options, is a lot of additional development work for what is ultimately side content. So if journalists stirred up controversy by lying about Unity, I certainly wouldn't put it pass them to lie about the circumstances of female characters in other Assassin's Creed games well, especially when it has made Ubisoft so terrified into effectively always having both male and female character options ever since. While Mirage is an exception by only having a male protagonist, I suspect that this is mainly to do with the game's development starting off with the intention of being DLC for Valhalla, taking an existing supporting character from that previous game to be the main protagonist.

I wonder if they’ll continue the habit (since Odyssey, though I believe they ruined Jacob Frye like this too) of faggot protags with Yasuke. You just know half the people beating their chest over this will get real quiet then.

Oh, I honestly consider it more likely that the female protagonist will turn out to be a lesbian than have a male love interest, following in the steps of Ellie and Aloy. And just like with every such case before, a major ulterior reason for it will be because of the understanding that the target demographic of male players will find lesbian action to be hot and otherwise uncomfortable with playing as a female character having romance with a male character, hence why lesbian couples are way more prominent than gay male couples in general media. The most likely case of all is that this female protagonist Naoe is completely asexual, but yeah, there's a greater chance of her being lesbo than visibly heterosexual.

Some solid, historical facts about Yasuke.
You're killing me dude.
Semi-unrelated but I have to say I fucking love this crackpot black people fake history shit. Whatever you want to call it. It always gets a laugh out of me, every fucking time.
It's even worse because you know there are people that unironically believe shit like this is real.

Yasuke completely falls off the historical record after his master's death. A lot of historians believe he was sold back into slavery.

A few years serving as a sword polisher/tea server followed by being re enslaved is the historical legacy of this badass not so much a samurai warrior.

The funny this even in Nioh despite the presence of demons and magic and shit the names of the battles/conflicts and the relationships between historical figures are all reasonably historically accurate.
William was also treated like a background character in Nioh, mainly because the big players in the game want to keep the fact hidden that a foreigner started all the bullshit happening in Japan at the time and that another foreigner ended it because he wanted to get his Celtic spirit waifu back from the edgy goth boi. Which to be fair, William wasn't that important in actual history of the Sengoku period. Meanwhile AnalCreed is making out Oda's Nobunigga to be a big deal, they literally are calling him a "legendary samurai" and a "key figure in Japanese history" in their promotional material like he's someone on the level of Sanada Nobushige or Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

Niggers or not, I don't buy it for 70 USD.
$70? try 130 for the full game.

I’ll be happy to be wrong, and that why I said I want them to be next, because I know they’ve been struggling.

I’m just shocked Japanese players are clapping for it, and many are saying it’s a must purchase, so I wasn’t sure.
I was wrong, the critical comments and reactions are coming in from Japan. They’re not happy.

And most of those records come from Jesuits who... if I'm not fucking up the timeline here, weren't exactly allowed to freely explore Japan. I think they were cordoned off on their own little island like they were lepers. Again, if I'm not screwing up the chronology here, but I could have sworn it happened around the same time.
