At what point did Chris finally snap?

Since birth, of course. Growing up with a former Klansman for a father and a lazy, deceitful excuse of a mother helped along with that.

As for completely losing it outright? I'd say it'd had to be the The GAMe PLACe. After all, nothing says completely unhinged as running over the owner thinking he's part of a conspiracy, being supported 100% by your mother and getting a criminal record on top of that. Since then, he's gone further down the hole between Tomgirl, the fire, the sudden resurrection of his creation and the "Blarms"/GameStop movement.

I think the day he came up with Sonichu was the tipping point. I mean, that in itself is not a cause for insanity, but the bullshit that followed afterwards is mostly due to the conception and birth of Sonichu. Would we be talking about him if he didn't:

a. Create Sonichu
b. Put Sonichu in comics which detail his fucked up life
c. Publish these comics on the internet
d. Admit to Alec that he believes Sonichu is real?

If you're talking about Chris in general, I don't think if there's a specific moment he "snapped" - if you're autistic, you're autistic from birth.

If you want some sort of precise moment to explain his noteworthy lolcow tendencies, I'd say the incident in college that made him decide to start his Love Quest was when he went from being an unexceptional autistic guy to the lolcow we all know today.

If you want to talk about Chris "snapping" in the sense of a dramatic change in personality online, probably the death of Bob and losing his virginity to the hooker. The whole Michael Snyder incident was in between but I think having to accept Bob's mortality when he was positive that he would live to be over 100 (when he clearly didn't) and that losing your virginity will not cure all of your life's problems (which they weren't) impacted Chris into someone who was dramatically different than when he was first discovered.

I'm not sure what really caused him to kinda snap into his current state of a very confused transwoman(?). I'm of the school of thought that this has been seen over and over in the past, it's only recently where Chris has finally declared himself to be a transwoman.

I think what ultimately broke Chris when it comes to his online use was how he was treated when he was given the Cwcipedia. That's whenever he began to resent his position online, when the comics which was meant to be fun for him eventually became a chore.

The final blow was when the whole mess with the Wallflower happened, it messed up something he thought was very promising and caused him to properly "quit," the Internet for a while. He's never been the same since then.

If the question is what caused Chris to be the person he is then I'd echo every one else and say nothing could have prevented that

You'd have a difficult time finding someone more anti-trolling than me, but I don't think you're right. The trolls have certainly not helped Chris's mental state, but the defining aspects of his personality clearly predate him being discovered by the Internet. The early days of the Love Quest prove this: multiple bans from local retailers, awkward run-ins with the law, villainizing authority figures who reprimand him, displaying a nasty sense of entitlement toward Megan and other girls, and so on.

I feel the vast majority of the trolling against Chris was repugnant and unfunny, but you have to get the cause and effect right: Chris's personality isn't a result of trolling, but rather, Chris was prone to trolling because of his personality.

You've sold me, mostly.
But the operative word is 'snapped' for me. Maybe we have different definitions of what it means for a human being to snap. I don't see a snapped man, just an autistic one, pre-troll.

Like others have pointed out in this thread, I don't think he ever really "snapped." Pre-troll Chris clearly displayed all of the underpinnings of what (s)he became.

Not to be redundant, but if you're looking at the biggest evidence for Chris "snapping":
  • Recent criminal activity? Chris was already staging fictional retaliation against jerkops in the premier issue of Sonichu as a result of real life struggles with security guards. Trespassing and belligerent encounters with law enforcement are nothing new.
  • Gender? Chris began labeling all of his male peers as JERKS and putting women on a pedestal in the early days of his Love Quest. Along with all of the homophobic stuff that followed, it's always been pretty clear that Chris felt uncomfortable with his own gender. (And check out his "Future Message" video for an early example of him grappling with this stuff.)
I could go on, but you get the point. There wasn't any specific turning point, because this is who Chris has always been. Today's Christine is the logical conclusion of Chris-chan, and Chris-chan was a result of autism and poor parenting. It can't be pinned down to any single event or trauma.

It was either his dad dying or BlueSpike.

I wonder how that kid feels knowing he cut someone that deeply. I mean, the Julie Reveals Herself chat is still one of my favorite things in christory, but it feels less like Chris making a fool out of himself and more being made a fool of.

His dad dying broke him up pretty bad, worse than I think even he realized. The inception of the Tomgirl Saga featured a broken Chris.

People tend to overestimate the significance of the Bluespike shenanigans because they got so fucked up. Julie Reveals Herself can be kind of brutal to listen to but Chris bounced back almost immediately afterward. Asperchu cut Chris much more deeply than Bluespike ever did even though Alec was pretty polite to him.

When Bob and Barb had unprotected old people sex and conceived him.

But yeah, I don't think Chris really "snapped". He just kind of changes, but at his core he still remains the same. I think Tomgirl and Death of Bob are the most significant changes that have ever occurred in his life. Maybe also discovering ED and his trolls.

I wouldn't say it the "snapping point", but rather the 'event horizon' of Chris' autism and development: the point of no return.
in that case I'd probably go ahead and pinpoint to early childhood; when he won the sonic shopping spree contest. Pumping 1000$ worth of sonic to a small autistic child is recipe for disaster.

When he made that video about the f he received in class. I mean there's no going back after that. It's officially every internal struggle he had after that became demanding justice for trivial things. The only way he dealt with things from that video on was freaking out and publicly so.

I dont remember that video... is it on the wiki?

I mean he's sitting in the dark in part two and around 738 just starts screaming about things. He even goes to say "I hope this video gets to them" and this is in 1998. There isn't a YouTube out there, YouTube doesn't show up till 2005. Streamed videos were still on real player and barely functioned when they did. There may actually not be what we conceive of as Google. Somehow at this moment he thought a camcorder video was gonna get out there.

You know, I actually thought about citing this as further evidence that he hasn't snapped.

Think about it: that video is just a tiny slice of life. You can't assume it captured some sort of breaking point, because we don't have any evidence to prove that he was a reasonable person prior. In fact, we have plenty of evidence to the contrary: from what we've gathered, his childhood was filled with explosive tantrums and familial fights against babysitters, school districts, and who knows who else? The indignation and entitlement on display in the Song of Christian video doesn't seem to be new or novel. I mean, the video isn't even focused on his rage. It's just a bizarre post script, after which he lets out a big sigh and then cheerily switches back to the pretense of hosting a TV show. Seems like business as usual.

He was immensely proud of his feeble accomplishments and was absolutely irate that anyone would question or criticize them. That sort of attitude and worldview does not develop overnight. Song of Christian represents exactly how he was born and raised, and how he has remained ever since. No snapping required; just some shitty parenting stacked on top of a socially impaired neurology.

This post is an A-Log, please rate it according.

Chris has always been socially retarded, but his behavior has gotten more extreme after catching the attention of trolls, I would say that he had definitely snapped by the time he tried to run over Michael Snyder with his car, but there were plenty of incidences before hand.

I say that he snapped before he came to the awareness of the internet due to Barb refusing to provide any social skills training or therapy early in his life. And it was a gradual process.
