To those that are playing the game, how many blacks have you seen and counted in atomfall so far?, it would be nice with screenshots too, so these npc can be documented.
I've just completed it today, there are no named NPCs who are black, the only ones I saw were a few of the random soldiers and maybe one or two villagers. Every named NPC was white. The black soldiers aren't
too egregious because at the time the game is set (1962) there were blacks in the army, mostly from the West Indies, and the soldiers, being soldiers, are obviously not from the local area. They're deployed from whatever units were sent there. Most of the soldiers are white and seem to have Welsh or Irish accents, or English accents that are clearly from elsewhere in the country. The local people all seem pretty typical of Cumbria from what I saw.
Small game review:
Since I've completed it, I'll give some thoughts - it's pretty good. Nothing groundbreaking, but it's fun for exploration, solving mysteries, and shooting baddies. The overall story is not terribly deep but it's engaging. You'll come across various people who offer you a way out of the quarantine zone yet constantly be questioning their motives. But the main driver is uncovering what exactly happened and how, if possible, you can set things right. Or just find a way out and fuck off.
The world is pretty nicely made - the lake district looks lovely, the main town of Wyndham will look eerily familiar to anyone who's lived in the English countryside. The soldiers wear correct attire and carry correct weaponry for the time period. The sci-fi stuff is not over the top - there's the robots, and the atomic batteries, but their existence in 1962 will make more sense as you learn more in the story. It's a bit more intentional than the Fallout "look we had robots and nuclear cars in 1950 cuz we just did" way. The druid faction plays heavily on the pagan vibes with strong nods to the 1970s Wicker Man movie, while the outlaws have that Clockwork Orange aesthetic.
Resources are somewhat scarce, but not excessively so. Crafting stuff you can mostly find in plenty just poking about in caves and bunkers. Ammo is not horrendously rare, it's just not super common like in most games. But it's also not stupidly under-powered like in most games; one or two bullets will drop most enemies. Headshots always kill. The main issue with ammo in particular I found was you are very limited in how much you can carry, so you'll want to switch between guns, or use a melee weapon if possible. I preferred faster melee weapons like knives or shivs because you can stunlock enemies with them pretty easily. Kicking helps a lot if you get swarmed.
Also, enemies in this game are not mentally deranged murderbots. They won't attack you on sight, nor will they pursue you to the ends of the earth to murder you. If they see you out in the woods or the fields, they will warn you to back off. If you stay away, they'll leave you be. If you get closer, they get increasingly nervous/pissed off and may attack. If you then decide to run away, they'll chase for a bit, then stop seeing you as a threat and leave you alone. If you're in a restricted area they will be more aggressive and some enemies are just murderbots (e.g. the blue zombie monsters). You can also stealth, but there is no stealth meter - if enemies see you, they see you.
There is plenty to see and do, but it's not a huge game. You can pace yourself and get a decently lengthy experience, or rush it if you prefer. But it's not like some Bethesda or Ubisoft game where you'll spend weeks doing side quests and hunting for collectibles. There is perceivably finite content which you can experience at your own pace and largely in your own order, depending on where you decide to go exploring. But it will be fun and rewarding.
I'd say a 7 or perhaps an 8/10 would be a fair score.
PS: my own personal tip, when it comes to skills, the first two I recommend aiming for are Gunsmith and Deep Pockets, in the Survival tree. The first will allow you to upgrade your rusty guns into better quality ones, while the second will allow you to carry more ammo and crafting goods. These will help out a lot.
