Avowed - Obsidian's new game, like Pillars of Eternity meets Elder Scrolls

I can't say how much of an improvement it is compared to the first game
Considering Nexomon is a phone game ported to consoles and steam, and Extinction was made for consoles/steam…It must be.
I’m excited to try it out.
but it's not hard to one-up modern Pokemon...
Nexomon 1 has features that I wish Pokémon games had and it’s a FUCKING PHONE GAME!
These are the new vegas devs?
No. The New Vegas devs are long gone from Obsidian. So now their games have gone from mediocre/bad to just plain awful.

No. The New Vegas devs fucked off years ago.

Devteam of Theseus problem. Obsidian was only as good as it's employees, and they were targeted by the woke mind virus a decade or more ago and their brain rotted out. Obsidian 2025 couldn't make New Vegas. In fact, they'd consider it transphobic and kinda fascist coded to even try.
Politics aside, there's just simple things like having nearby npcs just acknowledge your existence. In new vegas you could point a gun in their faces and they would be like "WTF?!" but here you can get right up in someones face and they say nothing do nothing. You cant push them or hurt them or interact with them. They might as well not exist.
Starts at 0:43. This should be fundamental.

ironically, John Gonzalez, the lead writer for New Vegas, actually just rejoined Obsidian recently

after New Vegas, he went on to be the lead writer for those Horizon Zero Dawn games, so he won't be saving future Obsidian games from pozzed slop writing

But those games had the best fat ginger facial hair simulation ever, that's what gamers want, right? -CEO of Microsoft probably

Obama really broke a lot of leftists' brains. Remember Horizon came out in 2017. Trump getting elected was like 9/11 cubed to these types.

NPCs don't move in towns because Obsidian was literally too incompetent to get AI to work properly. NPCs move on a set path and the game glitches as they walk, animations playing at like half the framerate of everything else. Games genuinely are regressing.
That is pathetic. Even Outer Worlds was more complex than this.
These are the new vegas devs?
Nope, these devs are all long gone. This is nu-Obsidian, in name only.

Imagine, voicing one of the most beloved characters in video games and be reduced to this. reminds me of Elias Toufexis (the voice of Adam Jensen) voicing a gay cowboy in Starfield.
He was originally going to voice the male main character, before voiced protagonists were cut so had a much bigger role in the game at first. Still, being part of Starfield at all is a sign of a failing career so your point stands.

After watching a few streams of this game all I'll say is this - Avowed? More like Disavowed.

I will see myself out.

What are you stupid?
He is a voice actor and paid to voice a role. Most are not wealthy, so they take the roles they can get.
That is not a sign of a failing career, even if Starfield is trash; it is a sign that you got paid money to do your job.

You autistc consumers are fuckign wierd.

It looks like combat and exploration/open world are an improvement over Outer Worlds, and might even be genuinely enjoyable. The social elements, the writing, the towns and the companions look like a genuine downgrades, I think the towns specifically are a remnant of back when the game was going to be multiplayer focused. Killable NPCs and a crime system are in Outer Worlds so it's not like they're not possible, it's just that they wouldn't really be considered in a more focused multiplayer title.
Bad optimization is bad news for me since it might not run on my rig well or at all. Right now I am too busy, but I might give it a try in the future.

I could make a joke about red hatters not having a sense of humor, but I think that would just fly over your head just as my joke about Starfield did.

The more I learn about who made POE and Avowed, the more it feels POE was a fluke and thinking about it makes me sad :(
POI was made in 2016 if I recall. The industry wasn't nearly as fucked back then as it was now, so it's more of a fact that Obsidian didn't have all of it's talent gone and what little remained wasn't fucked in the head with leftism as much as they were by the time POI2 and Avowed came out. Something like Outer Worlds came out in 2019, by then the rot has already set in.
With the removal of social elements and a noticeable downgrade in writing, I wonder if OW2 will continue this trajectory or if it will merely remain "mediocre" like the first game. Either way, not really a good time to be Obsidian, doubt they're going to make much of a profit from either Avowed or OW2 this year. DLCs could sweeten the pot a bit, but last I checked it took a year for each of the two OW DLCs to come out, the whole point here is to make these quickly to keep interest in the game going and I don't see that happening. If anything, 90$ LE companions skins are a worrying trend, it shows we might be seeing micro transactions in what is a single player RPG much like you would see in GAAS online games.

My question is, is it because they're lazy? or they're too scared that additional systems will bug out in unexpected ways?

I'd take a game with a tonne of jank over this sterile flat nonsense any day.
Like I already said, those things are possible in this engine(I am 95% sure it is the same, or updated Outer Worlds engine) so I am thinking either incompetence or laziness.
