Avowed - Obsidian's new game, like Pillars of Eternity meets Elder Scrolls

Be aware that this game had to run smoothly on a Series S, so any physics and cobbled-together areas can be explained by content/physics having to be cut to work on the Series S. It would have made sense for Microsoft to cap this game at 1080p@30FPS and include the physics, but microsoft are fucking retarded.
skyrim released on the 360, there is literally no excuse.

skyrim released on the 360, there is literally no excuse.
And skyrim had little physics and was shite until it was modded and Bethesda still had some competent people there..
The series S cannot run games at 4k, yet microsoft forces it to have feature parity with the X.

I'm not defending this game, I'm just saying how I see it.

No one is playing this. None of my friends who love games like this have mentioned it. A bunch of streamers I follow (please be patient, I have autism) who play Skyrim and various Fallouts and couple of times a year aren’t playing it. I’m not even seeing that many hate videos by the usually grifters on YouTube.

At least Outer Worlds had a tiny bit of a buzz but this seems utterly dead on arrival.

and none of that matters while still being a "better" action rpg than avowed running on much lower hardware.
I agree, Skyrim is a better game. Avowed is fun though, if you ignore the crap writing. It's very middle-of-the-road, modern-woke. Not OTT to piss people off like KCD2, just daft lefty shit like the blacksmith, best warrior, sword trainer and captain of a squad of thieves, all being women, 3 of which are black.

Mechanically though, the game is way above other modern slop. Somewhere, Obsidian still has talent lurking in the background.

I'm further along now and in the second area. There's new enemies now which is kind of neat but man that gameplay loop is getting stale fast. I have a dwarf in my party now, he's a pretty cool guy, kind of wish I could have a party of dwarves. Definitely wish I could be a dwarf. I also ran into the danger haired furry wizard, she didn't join but I know she's going to at some point and I will be irritated for the rest of the game.

Combats still pretty fun, they added some new monsters for this section which is nice. Exploration is still fun too, would be more fun if I could cast levitate or something and just not deal with jumping around anymore. Sure would feel more like I wizard if I could solve more problems with magic.

Avowed's big problem is the lack of agency overall. Can't kill NPCs, can't kick people from my party, can't run into someone's house and knock all the shit off the table. That being said for what it is I'm getting my 10 dollar xbox live pass worth, I think the game would be a good deal if it was like 30 bucks on launch, not that I'd pay that much but it would probably would have sold a hell of a lot better.

That doesn't change the fact that there are vastly better games to spend time and money on than this, games that didn't have faggot racist developers smugposting on twitter about their discriminatory hiring practices. For an absolute groundbreaking game I might be willing to overlook it being made by a pack of cunts, this is not one of them.

There are way better games on sale, right now, that can buy for $10. Disco Elysium, the entire Batman Arkham Collection, the Leisure Suit Larry Collection, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, both Grimrock games, and that's just skimming Steam. On GOG, you can get the first Kingdom Come, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Dragon's Dogma 1, Torchlight 1/2, Darkest Dungeon 1, literally all of the Metro series, and Frostpunk. Even if it was only competing for $10, there's a lot better that I can spend it on.

Seems a mistake was made here, if woke is to be avoided.
Mankind Divided was the blueprint for all these modern sequels
that ended up killing franchises and somehow have less content
and more political correctness out of nowhere than the previous title.
('Aug Lives Matter')

Suddenly everyone forgot about the strong independent mongrel
and that 50% of characters were homosexuals for no reason.
At least they were closeted, all things considered.

Granted, it does look really good, has an actual art direction
(something that post-modern devs forgot to consider),
and has tighter gameplay than anything Deliverance-d this year.
I'd argue it has better gameplay than Cyberjank 2077,
and it's more videogame than whatever subpar crap
Youtube shills sell to kids and soychildren these days.

I don't think that justifies killing the franchise.
Also: too short, starved of boss fights, little replayability.

But to be frank, other than wasting precious life time,
for the current price (USD5 average) vs production values it's a steal.
Imagine paying full price and buying DLCs on day one for this.

TL;DR: Buy, play and replay Human Revolution and assume it has no sequels.

Thread tax:
Avowed looks like shit, has no art direction
and is solid proof that videogames are dead.
Compared to it, Mankind Divided is a 11 out of 10.-

There’s nothing particularly woke about this completely bland and unremarkable game apart from choosing pronouns in the character creator (cue Gaylord Vavra saying: “the pronouns are just a choice my friend. ThE cHaRaCtEr Is YoU!!!”).
Oh really? Your first companion is a faggot that cries after his dead from AIDS faggot fuckbuddy. Your second companion is an autistic manlet who has panic attacks. Your third companion is a genius sheboon strong dyke that fights the patriarchy. Your fourth and final companion is a quirky reddit chungus waman sex pest who can't go a single interaction without hinting at kinky sex or drug abuse. You can't kill any of them. Shit, you can't even tell a single one of them to fuck off and never come back. Worse yet, the last one is completely MANDATORY for world exploration, since she has an ability to dispell illusions, something neither you, nor any consumable in the game is capable of.
The game clearly steers you to betray your own country for a group of savages (every single native is either a nigger, a pajeet, a sandnigger or some mystery meat mongoloid mixed mutt). It punishes you for every choice that benefits YOU or the empire you're an envoy of. Throughout the entire game you are forced to pick every anti-establishment choice there is if you want anything close to a "good" end for the map.

I could go on and on about how much of a leftard spin this game has, since I've beat it pretty much at 100%, looking for options that let me exterminate as many of those subhumans as possible, but suffice to say that pronouns are the LEAST of this woke game's problems.

i know me and that other guy are optimistic, from the article someone linked here, Obsidian really liked their "open parts" style from that game and said its much easier to design a game around, so i expect we'll get something good from it. At minimum we're going to have way more weapons and outfits and science weapons and being able to duel wield and chuck grenades and you can see your character and a bunch of other shit. the trailer even promised to give us "all the stuff that should have been in the first game" and the basic writing was top notch. The entire game revolving around the competency crisis despite being made in 2019 before that took off was really neat, and i bet if they tripled down on those themes in new and exciting ways they'd be able to make something amazing. In general the worst parts of the game are the ones that are easy to fix (the graphics, making non-ugly characters, combat) Beyond that i pirate so i'm not wasting money if i'm wrong.

I don't like Avowed or KCD2 and didn't support them with my money.
Forgive enemies, perhaps, forgive traitors never.
I might buy Avowed once it is patched up and hits $7, as the combat/exploring would make a fun lazy weekend before uninstalling.
KCD2 deliberately distorted history isn't something I want to reward.
Mankind Divided was the blueprint for all these modern sequels
It's also an excellent game, and the politics is congruent with the near-future setting.

I'm someone who genuinely enjoyed Outer Worlds, though its grimdark plot didn't quite match its Futurama tone.
The DLCs are far more immersive.

That's the impression I got too. Unfortunately combat/gameplay is far easier to fix than rewriting the bad story due to it all being voice acted.
I hope they(or modders) somehow fix the lifeless cities.

Most of the woke shit was in the marketing for the game. The main plot of the game was still about busting bob page and the illumanti. Woke shit in games started way before 2016. Not sure how old you are but PC culture is way older than that lmao. Adam is still the main character, everyone is reliant on his choices and decisions. Agency is not taken away for another character. The aug as a persecuted minority is retarded I will concede; only because its hard to feel bad for a group of people when they have swords for hands. Square Enix jewed us out of a full game and that is unacceptable, but that has less to do with wokeness and more to do with retarded Nips not knowing how to budget.

The lifeless cities aren't that bad in this game. Yeah it's a bit shit, but the fewer NPCs you have to react with, the better and more time spent killing enemies, which is a lot of fun.

The game is challenging as well. I'm playing on hard and if the enemy has uncommon and you have common - or any variance thereof, eg, you have rare and they have unique, you deal -35% damage to them and they deal more damage to you.

Sure, 'Nips'.
No agenda whatsoever behind a Leaf choir of frog-sounding names.

For whatever it's worth, compared to whatever is being released as AAA today,
a recommendation of sorts can be extracted from my previous post.

It's also an excellent game, and the politics is congruent with the near-future setting.
Not if you take Human Revolution as the basis and Mankind Divided as its sequel.
I will agree that compared to Avowed, it's an excellent game (I said 11/10, didn't I).
Not compared to Human Revolution in regards to story, length and replayability.

Mankind Divided is a huge step forward in graphics and gameplay and worth more than 5 dollars.
The gameplay loop alone is very well crafted and addictive
(compare and contrast with Avowed and CJ 2077).

But let's not forget that has been the main excuse of AAA
to shit out USD70+ underwhelming, underperforming, overshilled products.
(and the responsible of 100+ GB games with 0MB substance and "non-game side content").-

He needed something to be outraged about now that KCD2 sold a lot.
Currently, Avowed is the prygelknabe for the outrage media, so they need it to drive clicks.

Avowed brings in the angry gamers who are OUTRAGED that this game is kind of a 6/10 or a 7/10, and it is a conspiracy that some people think is fun. Woke and Broke and whatever culture war loser shit.

Do I think you should go out and buy it for 70? Hell no, but there is no conspiracy about this game, and the only reason that this is a hot topic is that KCD2 was too good, so like Bladursgate, the outraged gamer will suck the girlcock if the game is fun.
That super weird because unless you're terminally online you don't see very much about Avowed in media coverage. It's not really a hot topic outside the fanbase and some curious players.
On r/Avowed you can only see the one complaining about "the haters" but no one is really trashing the game on the sub, just some normal critics you can see on every games.
If there's a real outrage somewhere it's a very small group, I won't take youtubers opinions because they're vampires who just want le grift.
Even in scandal Avowed is mid. Which is good in my opinion, it's nice for once to not have a media storm polluting everywhere I go.
Avowed is a sad game and there's nothing more to say.
