Back 4 Blood - Left 4 Dead's spiritual successor

Played it for a couple hours. The gunplay is fun, even the gun customization is neat for what it is.

I absolute hate the characters, the card system is fucking stupid and shouldn't exist, the maps feel too small, and the AI is just bad. What's more is, you know the game is going to launch like how it is now. There's no way it's gonna get enough tweaks between now and its release to actually feel like you're challenged.

I'd maybe buy this on a 75% off sale if my friends did too but as it stands, fun gunplay just isn't enough to redeem what this game is right now.

Back 4 Blood misses the point because it's trying to copy modern gaming trends with stuff like stats and builds and RNG. It makes them focus on """""Balance"""""" rather than strong enemy or level design.

Like, how do you create a strong roster of enemies to conquer when you also have to account for thousands of different builds for potentially ever match? You can't, and that's why game devs don't. And those games are often worse for it.
The focus is not balance with bullshit like this. The focus is on selling players bullshit to even it out. That's all it's about. Evidently, the devs took a page out of the Dead by Daylight playbook and create powerful shit to incentivize players to buy it.

The Left 4 Dead games were the most fun I had playing online and the online games I sunk my teeth into the most.

For over a decade I've been waiting for a new game and this is what we get, what the fuck is wrong with video games?

Nearly everything. From the diehards to the corporations, it's in its worst state yet. We should stop classifying them as actual video games, for starters. Most are digital casinos, side jobs, or alpha/beta incompletions of an idea lol

So the same games as a service bullshit that sank Evolve is probably going to sink this, why didn't the devs learn their lesson?
I certainly learnt my lesson. Evolve fooled me with having fun with friends. This won't. Maybe if this goes on sale next year and there's been a solid amount of fixes added.

Side note, the attachment system fucking kills me because I always find purple/gold attachments to make my gun amazing, but when I find a better grade of my gun it has literally nothing. Why can't I just swap all of my attachments to the new gun?

Also, some of those should be classified as interactive expectation subverting movies, and some are to the point of being just walking simulators.

Wow, you can REALLY see the Harvard Business School Executive stamp all over this shit.

I played for like 10 minutes with some friends, we quit, loaded up L4D2, and had a lot better time.

"GODDAMN IT FRANCIS, GET ME UP, YOU STUPID BOT! NO, DON'T HEAL ME THREE FUCKING STEPS FROM THE CHOPPER YOU RETARD!":

Instead we get in B4B. Nooo bots don't jump off the building. Please heal me once. NOOOO DON'T STAND AND WATCH AS I AM PINNED.

One of the best things l4d had, gameplay and characters aside, was the level design. The first level of the first campaigns for both 1 and 2 had so much personality, good progression, interesting use of colour for making landmarks ( mainly l4d2)
But this?. Its like if l4d chose the shitiest campaign on its shittiest lv for starting point, visually uninteristing and absolutely forgettable. I swear to god, Ive played 10 minutes ago, i wasnt drunk, i wasnt sniffing a mentally ill bitch´s feet fungus or shoving crayons up my nostrils, i remember industrial setting and grey, grey, grey.
I couldnt even rebind the fucking keys. The enemy design is pretty shit, change shapes, about same color palettes. Neither had recognizible enough special sounds that youd recognize on a whim. The perk system is...why?...uh ok? Gunplay was ok. Bots were retarded, like 2010 retarded.
Characters were as forgettable as the rust on the grey walls of the grey halls of the maps. I specially hated the mexican Ichiban.
I rate this no/maybe

I'm enjoying it overall.
The PvP sucks, the character designs are shit, and the AI is laughably retarded, but the gunplay is fun, weapon customization is kinda cool, and I actually like the card system in theory (as long as they don't add MXT cards). If you're playing with friends it's actually pretty fun. But then again, spending time with friends can make lots of unbearable bullshit amusing so...
Idk. It's alright.

I think the two camps are gonna be:
  • Camp A: Left 4 Dead fans that hoped to simply have more of it at the very least
  • Camp B: People who didn't play L4D with friends for hours so there's not much to compare it, resulting in this being just OK
When I played the other closed beta I got bored so fast that I just played L4D instead, I haven't had much confidence in it ever since they announced the card system

Ya know, I told you that modding support would be a great necessity for a game like this. Mod support is what made PAYDAY 2 and L4D2's bots greater than ever be it Better Bots or Left 4 Bots. The fact that the bots act retarded in the first release already gives me conniptions. Remind you, Counter-Strike: Source's bots were pretty damn good from the first day so this ain't a fucking excuse.

I gave it a shot with my friend who hadn't even played left 4 dead before.

We got through half the campaign, gave up, then went and actually played l4d and got through 3 full campaigns back to back and had a blast.

How do you get outdone in every aspect by something 12 years your junior? There was no originality involved in the design process ALL you had to do was improve it

You know whats the BIG difference between B4B and L4D?

B4B is already drolling to get your money in the most corporate way possible
L4D makes practically no money and its last major update was made completely free by fans.
Unpopular opinion but L4D2 should have been a content update for the original L4D instead of Valve betraying their promise and releasing the sequel.

Also you mention The Last Stand update yet it caused an uproar in the community to the point of scaring the modder responsible for the update.

Is it still the same team as back then? If the answer is yes I'm gonna hang myself but this feels like a fan game that got redone halfway through
