This brings me back to the early days of the craft malls back in the 90s. No one ever bought them, but ladies would put down a $75 monthly fee to rent a peg-board booth to sell these damn things.Stumbled upon another ebay find. At first I thought it was hats for like Kentucky Derby parties, but no, they are toilet paper covers. I never understood why they were a thing. Were people back then that afraid of toilet paper?

Putting dolls in crochet dresses over random bathroom objects must have been a trend amongst old ladies back in the day. I remember one of my grandmothers having one that was specifically for covering those plastic air freshener tubes.Stumbled upon another ebay find. Is this magazine from early to mid 2000's? Look at her shirt and her pants, that is 00's fashion. In those years my sister used to buy magazines about crafts with beads. Not just bijouterie, any kind of shit with beads. She made a lot of earrings and brooches, but also coin purses and all that.Found this pattern book for crochet flowers, the flowers look decent, but the woman on the cover the way she poses and how the flowers are just tacked on just looks bizarre and out of place

Me. I would. If someone gave me a pink cat for Christmas they had knitted or crocheted themselves, I would cherish it immensely.Gifts? Who would accept these things as gifts?

i met an old lady who was spending her twilight years making little crochet elephants and cats for her church to sell during some market weekends. the yarn was big enough for her to be able to see while working with it, and didn't require as much dexterity to make into the animals as sewing did.Me. I would. If someone gave me a pink cat for Christmas they had knitted or crocheted themselves, I would cherish it immensely.
tbh I blame Vera Bradley. That shit became ~trendy~ once that brand's tacky ass became popular.I don't understand why seemingly every sewing blog and website is into using hideous, clashing prints for every project. It takes what would otherwise be a nicely made piece and sends it straight to tacky hell.
Tip: if you want your projects to look really nice and not "crafty", use prints sparingly, use more neutrals and try materials beyond basic woven cottons. Pricey fabrics are worth the money, too - you're still paying a lot less to have clothing made out of quality materials than you would at most stores that are a step or two up from gutter-tier fast fashion.

I also thought all this was pushback against minimalism but doing it wrong.I don't understand why seemingly every sewing blog and website is into using hideous, clashing prints for every project. It takes what would otherwise be a nicely made piece and sends it straight to tacky hell.

sadly, very. I remember my college bookstores selling vera bradley bags, wristlets, id/card holders, etc. It's popular? I thought it was for grandmas.
From all the knitting and crochet online groups I'm in, it seems granny squares are all the rage again. And the overall doesn't look too bad.Granny square overalls! People back then reeeeeeeeally liked their granny squares.

Cutting off a t shirt is now "upcycling"
Do they have photos of anyone wearing their handiwork?Cutting off a t shirt is now "upcycling"
Plussizeupcycling on ig has a person who posts all these ugly, misshapen tops made out of curtains, jeans and bedlinen. This person has never seen a sewing pattern before.

I bet I’d go right through the head hole if I tried to put that on, like a fabric tunnel.Cutting off a t shirt is now "upcycling"

that's the thing about these crafts- theyre adorable if the person gifting them actually made them themselves, but they feel trashy and cheap when you buy them as a giftMe. I would. If someone gave me a pink cat for Christmas they had knitted or crocheted themselves, I would cherish it immensely.
