🂡 Balatro Thread 🂠

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I have created a truly MONSTROUS build.
The way this works is:
1. Observatory voucher – each planet card held in the consumables area gives x1.5 mult if the hand you're playing corresponds to the hand it upgrades. So since I'm playing Flush, it triggers each Jupiter I'm holding, so my mult goes fucking crazy
2. Perkeo – a legendary Joker that creates a Negative copy of a random consumable you have, every time you exit the shop.
3. Blueprint – one I bought, another I duplicated with Invisible Joker. yes, they can stack, one Blueprint mimics the one on its right, which is mimicking Perkeo, so I get +3 Jupiters per shop
4. I also have Ancient Joker to inflate the initial mult before the Jupiter particle accelerator gets going. Perkeo gets moved behind the Blueprints during a blind, so that Ancient Joker triggers 3 times per card (or 9 on the first card, thanks to Hanging Chad), and in front of them once I enter the shop.
5. Hologram for that extra kick before the Jupiters start going coo-coo crazy.
The sheer amount of Jupiters is making the game lag immensely, even when I have all the screen effects turned off. I could theoretically keep going forever, but I think the game will straight up crash if I push it any further.

This game seems like something I'd get really autistically into (I'm a total sucker for overpowered nightmare builds) but I'm worried that I would get confused by the numerous mechanics, that and I've never played poker.

Don't overthink it. There aren't all that many mechanics overall and certainly not many of them that you need to worry about first thing. Even then, everything else that you do need to be mindful of will make itself known quite clearly over time for you to notice naturally. You also really don't need to know how to play poker proper considering the poker hands are only a means to an end of completely general point-scoring, largely only propped up by pure maths and probability.

Congrats, you've just discovered part of one of the main meta builds for reaching the absolute limit of the in-game scoring, otherwise known as naneinf. You probably won't actually crash if you do carry it on considering the amount of times people have done these runs and unless you're running a particularly shit rig the game seems to be fairly resilient in the face of these things.

Thank you for the kind words, I'll try to pick it up if/when it goes on sale to try it out. Looks really fun from what you guys are saying!

It comes with the highest recommendation I can give:
I played every demo
I played every playtest, even when I had to pirate them
I have 400 hours in the official release and bought over $200 worth of merch.

It is 100% worth your time. I have not loved a game to this extent in years.

How is there even $200 worth of merch for this fucking cell phone game?

I got 2 mugs, 2 t-shirts and a hoodie. I should probably order that playing card pack too....
Also I bought the game....5-6 times? in total. Not sure. Bought it for myself and a few friends, and of course I have it on my phone
I am less than 5-10 jokers from getting gold sticker on every joker
97% completion.

The game is cheap enough you buy it on all platforms you have. I got it on phone because lol mobile game but damn if I don't want to buy it on my laptop and xbox and switch.

The balatro university videos are long but good, learned some shit, though I don't know if i'll ever be able to do the calculation autism he does, I'm more a "that looks like it might score enough, whew beat the boss on the final hand by 2 points" kind of player.

I'm addicted to hanging chad + hiker, I'm pretty sure I've lost rounds because I see either of those and lolshiny to them instead of staying with my strategy.

Managed at long last recently to beat every deck on Gold Stake, with my last one being Nebula Deck. Was a bit thrown off by the fact that the achievement doesn't actually unlock until you beat any other unseeded run after the fact, but any White Stake run will do just fine to trigger the unlock in the end.

The real nightmare now is to grind out Joker Stickers for Completionist++, but conveniently there are a couple ways in which the game apparently helps you with that. Anaglyph Deck, to start with, makes for a great place to grind these out assuming you manage to find enough Negative Tag skips. That way you can just tack any useless Joker without a sticker on it yet on top of any build you already have that can take you through to the end, but this does eventually fall off in efficiency the less Jokers you have left to seek out.

The real help comes from the way the game handles Legendary Jokers specifically on Gold Stake: if you have any Legendaries which do not yet have a Gold Sticker on them, the game will always prioritise giving you those Legendaries first and foremost when using a Soul card. Earlier today I did a run where I managed to thankfully get a Gold Sticker on Chicot, who is unfortunately the weakest out of the 5 by far, but that means I no longer have to contend with him the next time I come across a Soul card and the choices I have left are all fairly strong for future runs.

After playing the game as intended for 100 hours I installed a score preview mod and have absolutely no regrets even if some people might see it as cheating. Pulling out a calculator gets tiring and losing a run because of a dumb oversight feels bad. It's made the game so much more consistent and enjoyable and I recommend considering it if you're grinding high stakes and want to save hours of your life.

This is the one I use which has options to make it as fair or cheaty as you want. You can hide the score if any cards or jokers are face down, show a range of scores instead of the real score if there is any RNG involved, and show how much money you'll get for playing a hand: https://github.com/DivvyCr/Balatro-Preview

"Shit that nobody cares about" Completionist++ update: Onto the final 20 Gold Stickers now, with the 130 already attained also including all 5 Legendary Jokers.

@ScurvyRat: I took your suggestion a while ago now of switching over to the Ghost Deck for the remaining Gold Sticker runs and I have (almost immediately) seen the light. Anaglyph Deck may have been fine to clear out the bulk of them at first, but it suffered from very diminishing returns when reaching lower and lower chances of finding the jokers you still need stickers on. I had almost forgotten just how much of an early game-changer it is to slap Polychrome onto an initial joker with the starting Hex card.

Among the jokers left to farm stickers on are two food jokers (Seltzer and Turtle Bean, which are fairly annoying in how they destroy themselves after a while), Invisible Joker (incredibly useful when used as intended by selling it after a couple of rounds, but complete dead weight otherwise for the purposes of sticker grinding), Séance and Sixth Sense (both probably among the worst and most generally useless jokers in the game just because of how unlikely it is to even benefit from them).

Also with regards to food jokers, it took me three attempts to land a gold sticker on Gros Michel, since the first two times I went for it it destroyed itself the moment I beat the final Ante 8 boss and that cucks you out of any sticker on it at all.

I hit three legendary jokers and Blueprint in one run today. Triboulet was holo and I was able to hit on Wheel of Fortune to make Canio foil. Yorick came too late in the run to be useful. Not a huge score maker but I was able to beat a blue chip run with ease.

Depending on how hard you had scaled Canio in that run you would have almost certainly gotten a far greater benefit in scoring from copying him with the Blueprint rather than Triboulet. Considering you didn't have any retrigger jokers, the most you'd have gotten from Triboulet was an effective X4-X20 (depending on how many Kings/Queens you played) prior to the independent joker effects, whereas even just scaling Canio to about X4 or so would have been more than X16 to tack on after some decent initial boost from Trib for a total of at least X160 by the end (as opposed to only, say, X80 if copying Trib in that setup instead).
