🂡 Balatro Thread 🂠

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
It's also fun when you play through a really garbage run and it accidentally works. I once got to ante 19 using poor man's trib, and it's still my highest ante.
This is what I call it when you have ballot and photograph, usually with a blueprint or brainstorm
Ended up winning a run with a foil Lusty Joker, Droll Joker, Blueprint (which I now completely understand why it's regarded as one of the best Jokers in the game), Shoot the Moon and Blackboard on the Checkerboard Deck. I only lost Endless mode because I landed on the Goad as my boss blind.

Retrig cards with blueprint or brainstorm are utterly retarded, those two jokers are in a rare category of jokers I never ever skip

For me it's The Plant, that blind can go fuck itself sideways. The ones that obscure your cards are also a pain in the ass

First time I ever came across Blueprint in a run, I've been binging a lot of Balatro videos lately so I knew it was an immediate pick-up. Had to sacrifice a decent Polychrome for it but it was absolutely worth it. Used it to double my Shoot the Moon, which gave me 4x on it's 13+ Multi. My only problem going into endless was that I didn't have enough queens, let alone ones that weren't Spades.

Funnily enough, my Ante 8 boss blind was Amber Acorn, the only way I could tell which jokers were which despite them being hidden was the prok text, which gave me the opportunity to switch them back around. Never underestimate autism, bros.

What is the appeal of this game? like half my friends on steam have like a minimum of 300 hours on this game. it's just a card game, I assume the game play loop is super addictive.
"Just a card game" is about as surface-level of an assessment as anyone could make. The only thing the cards serve as is a vessel for general strategy that one would expect of a roguelite(?), but also the ability to score a ludicrous amount of points to progress through a given run depending on what you've picked up along the way. The latter is what gets a lot of people hooked onto it, coupled with the fact that the gameplay loop itself is also so easily digestible and you don't have to sink that much time into any single run just to win it, but the former also works really well here given just how many options and combinations are available to be creative with.

All in all it's just really, really fun.

Resetting runs for an hour looking for an arcana pack skip tag with a soul card in it wasn't exactly fun, but...I was already past the point of no return and I'm happy to have finished the grind.
I'm gonna take a break from the game now, but maybe I'll get into some of the extra joker mods later. Just not the total gameplay overhaul mods, those don't look like fun.

I like Checkered deck and Plasma deck. Different decks push you to search for different jokers. This is an intuitive way to push players towards variety. I like the quote:"If given the option, players will optimize the fun out of a game". Balatro decks don't restrict what jokers you can have, but they nudge the player in different directions, you are pushed to try new joker builds. This game doesn't hold your hand but doesn't feel unintuitive either. There are many different ways to break the game and make an unbalanced deck. 10/10.

Been playing with the Cryptid mod a lot lately and it's pretty fun, albeit broken, but I feel like that's the point. At this rate, I like to remove the more broken jokers from my deck when I'm far enough in to see if I can still win.

I've heard Jen's Almanac is even more broken, but I think it's the art style that really pushes me away. Every joker looks the same.

If I ever had a dollar for every time I lost a run due to statistically improbable bad draws from my deck, I'd be rich enough to roll for brainstorm in the shop.

It took me a month, but I finally beat Black Deck. The Driver's License and Fortune Teller jokers are your friends.

The past few days I've started doing a custom hardcore challenge ruleset, lightly modeled off of nuzlockes from pokemon

Rules are as follows:
>start with a fresh profile
>only allowed to play each deck + stake combo once
>no restarting a run
>if you lose, you have to erase the profile
>every 3 won runs, you get an extra life (you can change the number to taste or just not have lives, yo choice)

The part about it I find really fun is how I have to think about which jokers I want to unlock, as well as the ones I don't, in order to improve my odds of getting something like a baron as opposed to a hit the road or whatever. It adds a type of strategy that I find enjoyable.
It's actually kind of interesting how good the base unlock jokers are:
>baron & mime are unlocked, as well as DNA
>midas mask, vampire, and pareidolia are all base, and this makes golden ticket ezpz
>baseball card kind of fucks
>the 'play the game' jokers, (Constellation, Hologram, Fortune Teller), are solid
>photograph is available, and if you one hand a boss, you can get photochad relatively early

Hardest joker to get so far is probably brainstorm, I've lost multiple runs by trashing a royal flush at the wrong time.

Route I've been using is as follows:
>unlock black deck, pray you beat it
>grind out on checker and easy decks like green or yellow to build lives and unlock shit
>aim for plasma

I'm currently on my 8th deck in my current run, really lucked out in black deck by snagging photochad + trib

I've only just now picked up Balatro, its a fun game but I suck at it, still haven't won any run yet.
Got up to Ante 8 on one with good joker luck and excessive cash but failed at the last blind, which was sad.
Its still very fun though. No idea why I've only just started playing it now.

I finally did it this past weekend.

It is done. I finally got the 100%.
This is the run:

Pretty much did the whole run with 3-4 jokers, picked up hit the road in ante 6 and just fucking held onto it.

Didn't think I was gonna win this run, so I took this SS on my last hand:
20250531164854_1.webp
yes, somehow this hand ended up worth 400k

This took me forever. Hunting for hit the road was HELL. I even had a couple runs that were really close, but I still fucking lost, like this one:

Fucking seething that I lost this one. I thought I had it, but the boss blind fucked me on the very last hand.

I had some pretty cool runs along the way, including all polychrome jokers on Gold stake:

I had a lot of winning runs like this one, because playing and winning consistently at Gold stake was simply just fun.

I got the bug where it locked me out of the achievement until I completed a subsequent run, so I did a quickie on white stake on red deck:

You can see the achievement in this one. FUCKING FINALLY. Only took me 440 hours.

Here's the "winning" white stake run in its totality:

Pretty confident I can beat this game with some seriously retarded handicaps, I will be trying the Ballocke that @Agent Snigger mentioned above.

I'll leave you with a couple fun screen shots with a haha funny number score :)

I finally did it this past weekend.

It is done. I finally got the 100%.
This is the run:
I've been aiming toward getting the stickies, but the trouble I keep having is that some jokers I genuinely just consider atrocious. How do you get a gold stake win with something like 8 ball for instance?
