Going up 2-0 is beyond any best case scenario that I could have thought up. While yesterday was the Dodgers winning on a miracle swing, today was a more clinical performance.
Ohtani's injury is apparently a shoulder subluxation, which is a minor dislocation on that failed steal attempt. He was apparently walking around the clubhouse with no bandages and was in a good mood. Strength tests were good and so was his range of motion, so Roberts expects him to suit up for Game 3. The 2 nights off will hopefully help him recover.
They were much cleaner in the field (even with fat ass Rojas at SS, who I hate with a passion). Treinen for as good as he's been appears to be regressing to the mean. He's also thrown nearly 30 pitches on 2 consecutive nights, so he'll need a couple of nights off. I just want to make it to Game 6 so that Phillips is available. I have this suspicion that the Yanks are onto Treinen and he won't be as effective.
Yamamoto was incredible. Looked a little shaky early on but then settled into a good rhythm. He and Flaherty have both pitched way better than I could have imagined and while Flaherty can be very up and down, I actually feel somewhat relieved at the thought that Yamamoto may get another shot this series. Flaherty, not so much.
Walker "Motherfucking" Buehler to start Game 3 and I like him quite a bit. You have to look beyond the numbers for some guys and Walker is one of those guys who likes pitching in hostile environments and also likes to play in cold weather. I think that if he gets shelled early on, the Dodgers will likely throw in the towel and let the Yanks win Game 3.
Game 4 looks to be a Bullpen game and while LA's Bullpen games are actually incredibly tough for the opposition, this will be a scrub-tier Bullpen game by all accounts. You're looking at a healthy offering of Ben Casparius, Brent Honeywell and Landon Knack which is the Baseball equivalent of Mom coming to the living room and shouting "Dinner is served".
So there is a very real possibility that the Yanks can pull back to make it 2-2 going into Game 5. I think that Game 5 through 7 would be where the Dodgers, after "strategically surrendering" ground would go back into an "all hands on deck" situation.
I imagine that they go with Flaherty in Game 5 and then pending the results either Yamamoto in Game 6 and then some kind of insane "True Bullpen" game to close things out (if they're in a do-or-die situation when they're back in LA.
The possibilities are truly limitless which is what makes Baseball so captivating. For now, I'm just hopeful that Ohtani is healthy and will be in the lineup, and also hopeful that Walker Buehler can show the world why he was once one of the next big things in the sport.
Lots of Baseball left to play fellas.
