Battletech - Also known as Trannytech

Between inter-Clan cooperation being shit (most of the time they only shared information through the Grand Council or through their Merchants), and their individual intelligence services being a dangerous combination of incompetent and overconfident, they were just fucked. A Clan Watch that's specialized in spying on other Clans, no matter how good at it it is, won't stand a chance against ComStar... and they won't even know it.
Calling inter-Clan cooperation shit is an insult to fecal matter. Following Tukayyid everyone demanded an explanation from Ulric as to why he didn't share any of the intel he had regarding the ComGuards. His reply was just was seven words: "None of you ever asked for any."

Hopefully the guy is gonna pop up over here once the troonpocalypse is over.

And to top it off the other Clans forced the Wolves to land a couple of days after them so they could basically show them how to deal with the phone company themselves. Too bad that the phone company was lead by a veteran military commander who studied the clans in detail.

There was nothing forced about it. The Wolves deliberately bid high, knowing just what a meatgrinder they were about to stick their dicks into, even ordering their Omnis converted to energy-heavy loadouts specifically for logistics reasons. Everyone else prided themselves on under-bidding the Wolves, and wound up playing themselves afterwards thanks to such low bids. They never forgave the Wolves in general and Ulric Kerensky specifically for letting themselves get hung by their own petards in such dramatic fashion, especially since everyone sent their absolute best formations down only to get hammered into scrap and corpses. There's a reason everyone got pissed as hell afterwards about what the Wolves and Ulric knew about the ComGuards, and its because the Wolves intentionally let them throw their best warriors at the ComGuards just to wear them down beforehand, and all the Wolves had to do was nothing.

The books make it sound like that the Wolves had the right to send more forces to Tukayyid due to their great success against the Rasalhague Republic. The other Clans were furious about that and Ulric bid away 2 Galaxies away but also had to consent to touch down days after the rest of the Clans. Which can be seen as "Let's see how the others fuck up and we learn more about the ComGuards" Anastasius himself was surprised that the Wolves didn't attack with the others as he had stationed some of his best forces at the Wolf attack sight.

Na. It was 25 Galaxies against all 144 ComGuards regiments, and with seven clans since that isn't a nice neat number, so bidding had to happen to determine who got to send what forces. Lowest bid landed soonest, and so the Crusaders who thought it would be an easy win for them bid low in an attempt to win the battle before the Wolves could even deploy. They "forced" the Wolves to land late and with a high bid, with the Wolves being strangely okay denied the honor of even landing on the same day, which frankly should have started setting off more alarm bells and red lights than some MG ammo cooking off, but alas...

The ilKhan presented the terms of the bid for the Trial of Possession to the Clan Grand Council, all of whom eagerly endorsed and ratified the bid. Bids are a key element of the trial system. Commanders must bid away forces to win with the smallest number of troops to lessen waste. The Commander with the lowest bid wins the honor of participating in the trial. The vast majority of the Clan warriors, when presented with the battle, saw an easy victory over the mystical ComStar warriors as a foregone conclusion, and the bidding in the Grand Council for the “best” place in the invasion was fierce. The Smoke Jaguars and Nova Cats, eager to regain the face they had lost in their failed invasion of Luthien, bid dangerously low to gain the "honor" of being the first Clan on the planet; all the Crusader Clans conspired to ensure the Wolves would land last, with the least "glorious" targets to strike at long after the Trial was expected to have been decided, an insult the Wolves were rather suspiciously happy to accept.

Worth pointing out that the Wolves are and always have been the most SLDF-like of all the Clans when it comes to their organization, having a dedicated Supply and Support branch to oversee logistics, and even warriors to act as legal counsel for those brought up on charges, such as Phelan Kell was at one point. So, quite aside from the intel that they had been asking for and receiving from the ilKhan on how to prosecute their overall campaign that ComStar had been feeding the Clans to help them out, they were the only Clan that even had the ability to suspect Focht was not going to play by the rules of the Clans, and then plan out just what he would do, never mind the willingness or desire to think like a Inner Sphere barbarian.

Of course, Phelan Kell figuring out who Focht actually was helped out a ton in that regard.

Got a game tomorrow and I don't know if I want to do a lance of my merc dudes or a star of Jade Falcon. We are doing some Civil War play tomorrow...11k points.

Oh, right. I had that Reinforced Company vs. Binary Nova Alpha Strike game last weekend that I forgot to post because the forums were so unstable.

Not that there was much to talk about. My dice were so hot that game I'm pretty sure they would have left scorch marks on my record sheets if I let them rest there for more than a minute. It was a fucking slaughter, the Com Guards not only didn't know what hit them, they couldn't even hit back. We had set aside three hours for it but between my Elementals being the luckiest bastards this side of Strana Mechty, and the only enemy units to give me any kind of trouble being a pair of LRM Carriers I took far too long to get to, we finished with a complete wipe in just short of two hours.

We had so much time left over we decided to play a quick Lance vs. Lance match. Not much to report there either. I lost, but my Axman did take a nice big chunk out of the enemy Victor so that felt nice.

I think the Star Adders are also very much SLDF like with their doctrine coming from Absalom Truscott (If i remember correctly the Adders were also very much in favor of sending the Dragoons to recon the IS and even offered material which was politely declined by the Wolves). Plus they have a very integrated lifestyle with their civilian castes via their adjutants even though they don't have to listen to their input. But then there is the other part of the Wolves that refused to use their conquered worlds as a supply for material by not building / refurbishing plants and instead relying on supplies from the Homeworlds. A move that nearly crippled them during the Jihad especially with the Blakies playing "nuke a wolf" on Tamar. And you can't put the blame entirely on the Crusaders as the Wolves had held the Republic worlds for a couple of years before the split

Had a couple games of MWO last night where I got around 1.2k damage downrange without dying. God I love this Atlas.

Still haven’t found a light chassi that I click with.

Decided to reinstall MWO, realized the heaviest Mech I have on my account is an Ilya Muromets, confirmed I have no idea how the current meta works, got my ass handed to me.

So, basically the same as last time I tried to play MWO.

I haven't played in a couple years. I have a few friends who still do but I don't want to bother with the retarded skill tree and they've probably ruined the mechlab even more since I last attempted. I know Assault play was completely dead because of the engine changes.

As for lights, is the Arctic Cheater still a thing? We would stick 6 SPLs on those and just ambush everything. A single lance can do some work.

Yeah I tend to not really focus on the meta and just play with the shit I like. But learn how to torso twist, spread that damage around.

I never said the Wolves couldn't be arrogant as hell at times. They really did inherit that part of being a Kerensky. When you're top dog (wolf?) for so long, the highly unexpected (like say, the WoB tossing nukes around like it was the First Succession War) can really bite you on the ass. Should the Wolves have rebuilt and refurbished some local plants? Sure. But short of the unlimited nuclear warfare the WoB decided to wage for the sole purpose of knocking the Inner Sphere back down to Third Succession War levels of tech and industry (if not all the way back back to the Age of Terra) they probably had enough supplies in depot to buy time for reinforcements and resupply, and almost assuredly had plans to rebuild those facilities in case of total war.

Did they change the aiming system in the past 4 years or so? I could have sworn I was a better shot with AC/10s.

I also got annoyed that over half the 9 matches I played boiled down to half the team running in circles around the map, while the slower "Mechs got picked off by the other team's fast Mechs. Maybe that was me just being unlucky with team comps but going from "wait, where did my team go?" to "holy shit why am I surrounded?" within five seconds, multiple matches in a row, was really fucking jarring.
