Battletech - Also known as Trannytech

It's not surprising Mercs is the most popular, it's an open sandbox with tons of potential for moding. People into Battletech just really like making their own little unit and piddling around the inner sphere. If they double down on the successful Mercs formula they could really add tons on top of it to make it more immersive.
Not to say Clans was a bad idea, a story driven game was a decent change of pace from how procedural everything in Mercs was, but it didn't really capture the imagination of being a clan warrior. It was all stomping inner sphere trash hordes and not enough honor duels with other space psychos. Gameplay wise it was fine, but the upgrade system plus the dominance of laser spam got really old fast, but doing anything else felt like I was gimping my mech.
Online is a niche PvP game, it's fine for what it is, and it serves a crowd. Just not really everyone's cup of tea.

I will always say that Clans should've come first, then Mercenaries like the original Mechwarrior games used to do. Then A: Both games would've been better recieved, and B: Clans could've suffered from the early installment jank instead where it wouldn't have been as much of an issue, and Mercenaries could've been a much more refined and feature-rich experience using what they learned from Clans. [Imagine if Mercenaries had the tactical map, dropship boss fights, and fully rendered cutscenes for the main story instead of just the DLCs.]

Yeah this is the key part right here, if this had a much better executed story and maybe missions other than "here comes another enemy Lance" it would have done much better. MechAssault is more noteworthy in that field, and it was apocryphal as a story could possibly be, like 0% canon. The worst a game can be is unrememberable and boring.

It's a sad day when you're modern "sim" game is getting mogged by Mechassault, the console exclusive arcade shooter/Xbox Live showcase.

How are you going to be less engaging than the game that made you fight this thing while listening to Korn?

That's how I got into Korn, the album this song (the animation they used, good lord) came from is peak too. Also speaking of this hulking fucking beast from the earlier 2000's:

Watching an Viper tank pretty much my entire several ton ammo bins to the face and barely take any damage while standing still and staring at me gives me aids. And now I was in a match where quite literally no one but me and one other person was talking, and by that I mean not even calling out using the response wheel. "Hey can you guys mark enemies at least?" Nothing. I refuse to believe these people weren't literally bots. The last two survivors were fresh SR with little damage done, meaning they did nothing the entire match, they both died because they both shut down at the same time because they refused to override, the last SR shut down multiple times and lost the chance of a last kill (a trial mech lol) because they refused to press O. Holy fuck and I was planning on getting a SR but that single-handedly changed my mind not to get one so I'll never get associated with them. And it's not as sick as a KC so I'm not going to go "well fuck it, I'll be an outlier amounts a sea of fucktards."

I'm using a different mod setup, Known Universe with Yet Another Mechlab and its various addons, but swapping out YAW/YAWC for the Yet Another Revamped series that has a lot more weapon and ammo options. No more needing a special SRM to launch inferno missiles with YARW/YARWC.

I tried CI but ditched it because its low quality through and through.
I need to re-evaluate my mods. What pisses me off so much is that the mods are spread across Steam Workshop and Nexus, and holy christ, Nexus is shit. I get it, file hosting and paying blue haired assholes to harass people like me costs money, but making me wait 3 hours to download a big mod does nothing more than piss me off.

I've had three kills stolen and nearly died from my own teammates because several people kept following me and unloading into the enemy without checking their fire, such is the life of Light Mech. Next match was nuts, I saw nearly a Lance worth of Assaults vaporized in 10 seconds, never seen that before. It was like they all got cored and headshot instantly.

I hardly ever found the need to use Workshop mods, not only do I hate auto updating since that can break shit but every single mod that's worth using is on Nexus. Paying premium for uncapped downloads is silly but it's incredibly convincing. Sadly I was beyond fucking broke (everything had to be calculated well before I even thought of buying anything just to make sure I don't starve for the rest of the month) so I never got the chance to buy the lifetime premium. Would just switch over to exclusively Nexus at this point, even if it's run by the usual suspects.

If it makes you feel better damage as a metric is considered more important for score and dick measuring than kills is. A guy with 500 damage and no kills was doing work.
Yeah that's certainly true, but as the other part of the posts states, nearly dying means all my weapons were shot off from back shots (lol). So less damage than I should be contributing to the team.

So I'm in the market for infantry to bulk out my companies. I know where to get them, but I'm wondering how many little guys should I pack on a base to resemble a platoon? If you say "what looks good", give a concreteish number please and thank you.

The Hell's Horses player in our group 3D prints his infantry. He's been playing around with numbers but so far 6-7 per hexagonal base seems to be the sweet spot. Fewer than that and they end up as big as battle armor (which he also uses a lot), more than that and the resolution isn't good enough.

I've been using the little tokens from the Mercenarys box to use for Infantry.

I don't really use Infantry that much and honestly the tokens are nice to represent small forces.

Me and some lads flanked the shit out of the enemy team, most of which were heavy hitters that would be essential to the enemies team, and distracted them...only for us to lose 4-10 because my entire team just sat at the edge of the beacon doing nothing and then got pushed hard when we eventually died. All because the guy with a bunch of AMS said to get near him for some missile cover and the entire team clumped up on him. He was long range so he hung out near the back, as you should. Problem is everyone did too. One or two teammates being cowards is one thing, but most of the team not pushing what-so-ever even when told they should is another. Fuuuucking hate people sometimes. On a positive note, my Black Marauder cosplay (might upgrade to a Marauder II or IIC later) is finished and is a beast, consistently good damage at medium and brawling range.
Anyone up for some MWO private matches? Can do like, impromptu 2vs2 or 1vs1s.
Ehhh I'm not a fan of duels like that, some other time.

I should get back in, haven't played in a while due to WoW Classic intervening in my life.

I do know they are giving away a Blood Asp for this month.

Might be over, was for January and you have to get...3000 battlescore I believe to get it, so you'd need something that hits hard since battlescore is almost entirely damage related.
