It cuz after Marx died Engels randomly added that "the state will wither away" after the dictatorship of the proletariat eliminates all opposition. Then they ideologically justified it by saying that since nobody will differ in any way under communism there will be no need for a state in the perfect utopia anyway. Communism won't even need central planning like socialism because everyone will just automatically selflessly do exactly what is needed at all times. Same reason you don't need elections or anything but The Party since it perfectly represents what the proletariat wants anyway.

A lot of socialist explanations, in the "canon" anyway, assumes that all disputes are simply and easily solved permanently. You want bridge, guy wants wall, well, central planning ensures both people get both through the magic of magic. "But I want the bridge where he wants the wall?" No, you don't, that's false consciousness, The People want the wall there and the bridge over here. And you just accept it as your own wisdom because that's what everyone automatically does. Ben is correct, I was in a middle school recently and the corridor floors were littered with copies of the New York Times that teenagers had thrown down in disgust after they read something mildly critical of crossdressers.
