Looking back at Mr White and his high school chemistry life, I cant help but wonder how he went from being so smart and skilled that he built Gray Matter along with other two people to a chemistry teacher that hates his life.
At Elliot's birthday party, one of the members asks Walt at what University he is teaching and things get naturally awkward but it dead ass raises the question on just why Walt isnt teaching in some prestigious place that would at least pay enough for him to live at least a comfortable upper middle class life.
And I think the answer is obvious and right on our fronts, its his ego. Walt may complain that he is overqualified but the series never established that he attempted at getting a job at any university that appreciates his skills so we can make the assumption Walt legit never tried, even tho he will probably made up that he did and nobody took him in for whatever reason.
Given all we know about Walter White during and after BB came to an end, it legit would not surprise me that this man, being as egotistical and petty as he is, kept himself in a high school chemistry teacher position on purpose for the simple fact he loves being the smartest person in the room. He will complain the school and his students dont appreciate him but assuming there was a student that proved himself smarter than him, it wouldnt be beyond Mr Walt to legit fail that student on purpose out of spite.
If he was in an university, he would be teaching students that may be his intellectual equal if not surpass him altogether and this man's ego would not stand it so he will legit keep himself in a position that doesnt appreciate his qualifications while paying peanuts as long as he doesnt have to doubt that he is the smartest man in the room.
Shit like this makes me wonder if he just married Skyler because, unlike his previous girlfriend, she would never surpass him intellectually (which to be fair, Skyler is smarter than she looks, I do think she IS better at business than him at least) or in wealth (I do believe he loved her but like we nearly everything, he came first).
