BitChute is not at all decentralized or peer-to-peer, despite its claims

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Okay, so I do think it is at least somewhat decentralized, or has the capability to do so if your browser settings are correct (allow WebRTC, etc).

What it does have, is centralized "web seeds" (or the WebTorrent version of that BitTorrent concept), that do serve at least some of the requests.

It was.

They discontinued that for the regular videos, for a couple reasons:
  1. Most of the time, there would only be a one or a very few users watching a video simultaneously. Hence, the use of WebTorrent technology would primarily add technological complexity, while not providing substantial advantages in terms of hosting costs. Now, my hope is that that calculation will change if they're doing livestreaming with tens or hundreds of simultaneous users. If BitChute makes it big, maybe they can look at something like creating a 'desktop app' with built in capabilities to download and seed videos, and if enough people are interested in hosting videos themselves, maybe using WebTorrent on the regular site starts to make more sense.
  2. Shysters like /hebe/wheels who are being paid to attack internet freedom want nothing more than to leverage WebTorrent tech to attack BitChute and other alternative media platforms
"Noted child porn distributor" Frederick Brennan, who posted headers at the time he was running his mass shooter hub 8chan on the front page making fun of the victims of nude photo hacking (some of them underage)

would have liked nothing more than to leverage the use of WebTorrents to dox actual human beings. Here's what he would have done if they'd still been using WebTorrent:
  1. Write a quick script to hit the trackers BitChute was configured to use, for a range of videos on the site (either everything or just channels with mean hurty speech)
  2. Run that repeatedly for a few days to collect IPs of BitChute video viewers
  3. Filter for government, esp. military IP ranges. Send out mass "please explain" emails with the intent of getting people fired, so he could write that in his article
  4. Same with big business
  5. If he's feeling less lazy than usual, maybe do some targeted pretexting at ISPs to try and target individuals watching more 'extreme' videos
Revenge porn fan Frederick Brennan is just angry that he wasn't able to run his original plan. He isn't even remotely interested in a decentralized internet.

His collaborator who wrote the Shorenstein Center hit piece, Zack Exley or Zach Exley (1969-12-05), lives with his wife Elizabeth and daughter Esther at 608 Lucas Lane, Crane, Missouri 65633.

I must admit to having a little respect for Andrew Yang, but it's all gone after discovering that he pays shysters like Exley to do his dirty work.

Exley was assisted by Benjamin J Clayton (birthday around April 14) and Conor P Hand (1990-10-04).

Hand works for a corrupt lobbyist firm called 270 Strategies, which bankrolled his previous astroturf groups like the 'Resistance School'. He literally lives on K St, at 400 K St NW, 715, Washington D.C. 20001. He has given money to the corporatist Elizabeth Warren campaign.

Clayton works for 'Homes England', under the 'Conservative' government of Boris Johnson, because of course the 'Conservatives' would employ an enemy of free speech and patriotism. He lives in London. Possibly somewhere near Westminster Bridge if I recognize the bridge correctly (likely don't)?

Oh, that's interesting.

In that case, I would like to see an option on the site to enable WebTorrent, if you use a VPN or don't care.

In the meantime, you can use this, just copy the magnet links: https://github.com/webtorrent/webtorrent-desktop

Yeah, my thinking has been that if they go with doing the WebTorrent thing again, including on the livestreams, they should probably warn users that it might leave them vulnerable to harassment by psychos like /doll/wheels.

It's a great opportunity to upsell a VPN, too..

Bear in mind that when you're downloading from those magnet links, in almost all cases you're just grabbing the file from the same 'webseed' HTTP/HTTPS url that just playing the videos from the BitChute website will use.

Yes, I'm aware of that, as I said in my Wikipedia post.

It's kind of unfortunate that they are not more up-front about this whole thing.

Edit: at least there is an officially sanctioned way to download videos, through the magnet link thing, and it won't break once and a while like youtube-dl.
