To be fair, in the 80s there were ALSO a lot of very light-skinned black women (I guess you'd call them "Quadroons" in the old-timey lingo) actresses with hair exactly like this, which is why Moviebob thinks this is legit a case of April O'Neil (AN IRISH LAST NAME!!!! Meaning even if she IS "blek" she's probably also got white in her) being Blek.
As one of the resident Transformers spergs, I feel I need to point out that maybe, just maybe, the Nightshade character is (mis) programmed in such a way that they don't understand gender.
That being said, making the Non-binary character be the one that also has a 'beast mode', is literally the worst altmode to do that with.
The G1 Marvel Comic tried to play off Transformers as being sexless (which isn't quite the same as genderless) - they presented as Male, but they don't reproduce in any way that would involve a male and a female. In the G1 Marvel Comic there was an issue called "Prime's Rib", where angry feminists browbeat Optimus Prime into having Arcee, the first Female Autobot, constructed. So it is not entirely without precedent that a Giant Alien Robot with no biological sex wouldn't quite "get it". So I could see a "non-binary" Giant Alien Robot being a legit thing. Using it as a propaganda tool on little kids, that's another thing entirely.
The G1 cartoon took a different approach; while Arcee technically came into being first when they were planning out Transformers: The Movie, the episode "The Search For Alpha Trion" introduced four named Female Autobots, one of which was Optimus Prime's girlfriend, and several unnamed (at the time) ones. This was all a result of Ron Friedman's daughter pestering him to make female Transformers.
But yeah, a truly TRANS Transformer, makes no fucking sense whatsoever, and certainly didn't improve matters.. Looking at you, IDW Arcee...
Also, Gerald Nielson's avatar was Fantastic Mr. Fox, from the CGI animated movie of the same name, not a teddy bear. Makes more sense for him to abuse the late Leslie Nielson as an avatar, as he is currently now doing.

He is very tedious, but I think that's what's entertaining about him. He's a loser who tries hard to act like an intellectual to make up for his patheticness.
