The way the industry is moving is that Nintendo are going to be the last man standing in the console space, everything else is basically just going to be a consolized PC or Android device. This is bad if you mainly like Nintendo games, because Nintendo wants those to be locked to their proprietary hardware. Everyone else seems to think of everything as just being software, Playstation games are on PC, Microsoft wants Gamepass everywhere, Steam doesn't require you to have a Steam Deck to buy from their store. Now, that's actually good, because it means that in order to play old games you will no longer have to resort to piracy most of the time. Well, boneheaded maneuvers like Sega removing their game collections from being sold are still possible, but when everything is just software it stops being a situation where you have to keep old hardware running and trying to find parts to repair it with. Well, except for with Nintendo. That's ok as long as it remains profitable for them, but it sucks for retro-game enthusiasts who are neurotic about emulation.
