American boomers really hate their kids.
Thankfully none of the boomers in my family are like this, but the amount of anecdotes about this type of behavior makes me think there is something to the theory of lead poisoning affecting many boomers' cognitive abilities related to past memory and forward thinking/planning.

I do not believe in the Gen Z stare meme. A good 70% of all people of any generation and ethnicity will just blankly stare at you when you say hello to them.
If anything, it is the boomers who do it most.

My mom is also like this, she fucking despises video games (to be fair I do play a bit too much), but she will literally spend the whole day watching tv, not even new shows, just reruns of the same shows over and over again.
Vidya is better than TV. At least you interact with vidya and have to do things.
That's the PROBLEM, you guys. I actually once had a conversation with a Boomer about this and I got the strangest impression during it that they see video games as disrespectful to the TV. At one point she said something like "That's not what a TV is for, you know? You're supposed to sit there and enjoy it."

We already know Boomers see TV as:

But I am constantly surprised how deep that fact really goes.

The Simpsons - Television! Teacher, Mother, Secret Lover.mp4

But why exactly do they love it so much? I never understood how someone could sit there and watch the same old slop over and over again. And in my parents case, it's shows from the 50s and 60s, some of the worst "sitcoms" know to man come from that era. I hate it.

I'm not even sure I understand this. I just turned 51 last week... my parents are the boomers. Literally. (If they were still alive). If you're 45-50 years old, and they were just telling you to get the hell out last year, that's on you. Your stupid little reddit screencaps say they're 18, but my mama would've had to have had a kid at age 52 to have an 18 yr old just so recently.

Are redditoids so retarded that anyone older than them (19+) is a boomer? Asking for Gen X, you all talk like fags and your shit's all retarded.

It's all they had.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, and anyone else who had experience with them can back me up here, but the "Greatest Generation" was pretty negligent when it came to their children's emotional needs.

The logic was that keeping your shit together would keep everyone more stable, but it neglected the reality that children aren't just tiny adults, and being a child + lead poisoning wasn't great for them. If you start asking Boomers about their grandparents you'll get some interesting answers there as well.

Now where it gets really interesting is the presence of the television itself. Not to go too far into the type of stuff that belongs in the conspiracies thread, but a lot of stuff changed during the Boomers' childhoods. The Boomers' parents were used to things like radio, and they trusted the voices that came from that box, so when the TV came along there was already an established "relationship", and TV became a treat, entertainer, and babysitter. The TV showed the Boomers a Baudrillard stage 2 version of their childhoods where "Leave it to Beaver" did seem very much like their own lives, but better and more comforting than their own realities.

The act of watching TV itself was also comforting, and it's a comfort that's been consistent and improving their whole lives. The TVs kept getting bigger, brighter, more colorful, thinner, and with more and more engaging content to watch. It's something that's always been there for them in a way no other thing could ever be.

More to watch:

This is one of the reasons why millenials transition and go no contact with their supposedly based and reasonable conservative parents.
I cant tell you how many normal moderstle conservative or liberal boomers have far right or far left millenial children who have these views specifically to annoy their parents. If your parents were homophobes but hate Trump congratulations you get a queer Trump supporter.
Were your parents moderate republicans who supported Israel? You become a hard left fuck Israel Palestine from the river to the sea leftist.

I've never been a big hippy dippy talk about your/our feelings type but I'd argue that boomers act more autistic than most autists. The super majority of pink faced old dudes getting in their big mad feelings at the drop of a hat and demanding respect for example over minor disagreement, and then they are not even able to define what that actually means or what they really want when they say that, combined with a gaggle of older permed hair hags who will rollercoaster swing from silent treatment upset to verbally making snipes then not remembering why they were even doing it is partially why it's super easy to convince people to just not be around them

You can't even begin to connect with someone who can't even cobble together 1-2-3 order effects and toddler levels of word association to describe what they're feeling and why they're feeling it. So a lot of people have just given up trying to connect with their parents and grand parents not even due to pissant political reasons but simply because they have no idea who the hell they are and what they even want out of life and others. Because they can't seem to tell anyone else either.

I've got one for y'all. I was at the dentist office. This old boomer woman with a walker comes in. I offer her my chair. She ignored me. Then she checks in and comes back and is like "I need that seat." I moved chairs. No thank you from her. She pulls out her phone, puts the volume to full blast, and plays this AI slop video about Trump. It was such goobly gook I couldn't tell if it had right or left bias. It communicated no information other than word slop. I thought what if I pulled my phone out too and played Kino Casino at full blast. Bitch would have had a conniption.

Have the boomers in your life ever tried to gatekeep knowledge for actually no reason?
I was talking to my grandfather in law during a visit, and we got onto the subject of finances (he's very well off), so i mentioned the short time I had during the Gamestop/AMC debacle, and how I also tried some high-dividend investments, but kinda petered out later. He says "Y'know, dividends really arent all that important when it comes to stocks" I just kinda go along with it and leave it at that.
The next time we visit he shows off his Charles Schwab and shows me his portfolio (well above half a million), and he points to the amount of money he gets monthly from dividends and goes "heh look at that, I get all that money just by sitting around!" meanwhile im there like

Why do they do this? He's not malicious or anything, it just seemed like a knee-jerk reaction to downplay it as soon as i brought it up, like a mason when you start talking about children.

A long time ago, before Boomer and Karen discourse was huge, I used to work in retail. For 6 years straight I was a front facing store upkeeping wage slave. We had a great store and got along with each other and most customers so its not like this is just a store where everything went wrong type of situation. No, only one demographic would make everything go wrong in the era of The Customer Is Always Right.

We all noticed back then there was a certain age demographic we all hated. It wasn't the elderly or teens like us, no it was what then I just referred to as "Middle Aged" people. Super entitled. Would come into the store 5 minutes before closing late and night and fill an entire shopping cart keeping everyone there way past their paid time. Making us develop their (last gasp of photo development era, only olds did it) gross sex photos. Screaming at people over nothing. Fat 50 year olds berating male employees as a power move to hit on female employees younger than their daughters. Harpies demanding I, a 19 year old shelf stocker, tell the corporate board what logistical changes she wanted made, since I knew them personally of course. Trying to lie to us that photos were "tax free" because "its for my business" and getting mad when we didn't give them arbitrary discounts. A mid-life crisis unfolded inside a generic store at least once a week. One time a friend of mine argued with a boomer lady who was trying to use expired coupons and she got so red in the face she had a heart attack and FUCKING DIED right there. Ambulance came and everything, total corpse by the time they arrived though.

She died doing what she loved: bullying service sector employees.

Now those middle aged people are becoming elderly and I realize they were just Boomers. They were like that when they were kids and they will die like that. As someone I know once said "They came into the world demanding a cut of their parent's cash and they will leave it demanding a cut of their children's." Eternal protagonists. The first stage of the rot of a dying civilization is a pampered and entitled generation that knows only unearned subservience from others.

I have a million problems with my own (millennial) generation and especially zoomers, but holy shit there is nothing like a Boomer. You think they are bad now you should have seen them when they still had some spark in them.

The other funny thing is that they prove that age=/=wisdom. They are as bad as teenagers at consuming just the worst online slop imaginable today. Even worse they tend to believe obviously fake AI videos are real. I guess that's par for the course for a generation that bought every bullshit thing from cable news over decades and despite being wrong every time is still loyal to the format anyway.

I wish I'd been there to laugh.

There's something weird about boomer movies, you know the ones that defined their generation. In tons of them the protags behave like near sociopaths.
and especially zoomers
Go on.

They are the generation that thought a bunch of fifth world impoverished rice farmers in the asscrack of asia going commie were a massive threat to America. At least my generation thought a bunch of cameljockeys were a threat because two fucking planes crashed into the biggest buildings of the most important city in the world.

Are boomers dumb because of all the leaded gasoline burned and released into the atmosphere during their lifetimes?

"because you don't need to know" or something like this, keeping unimportant (or sometimes ACTUALLY IMPORTANT) info to themselves just because they know it so why should you?
when i worked for my boomer pc boss we were helping one of our company's employees get setup for remote work, when i was getting her station setup i noticed she had an old printer in the corner that she said wasn't working. got it plugged in and installed, worked just fine, she's all set. a couple weeks later my boss says he bought a new printer and charged it to the company she works for (with the usual 20% markup of course) and to go over there and replace it. when i asked why since she already had a working printer he said i didn't need to know. so while i'm hooking up the new printer i can't shake the feeling that he's scamming the company over a printer she doesn't need. i didn't mention anything to her about it but later after basically cornering my boss it's because she did a lot of scanning and needed a mfp with a feeder instead of a tray scanner that her old printer had. i asked why he couldn't just fucking tell me that and he again said "i didn't need to know"
fucking boomers

Who the fucker think he is? a CIA operative?
no lol he also kept all his customer's info including passwords and SSNs in plaintext on his server. used the same password or its three variants for everything including admin accounts, routers, VPNs, etc. made everyone use some obscure vpn software that hadn't been updated in 10+ years. he still doesn't understand why they all get hacked/crypto'd all the fucking time.
