Treating literally anything and everything of value like an asset class might be the single most harmful idea boomers ever came up with.

Alright, as promised:


My mother's primary focus was matching outfits here, but you can see in the distance even more boomer dancing. You can also see how most the boomers are just sitting in chairs as well not doing much else.

This is life at the Villages ladies and gentlemen.

I know this is probably an unpopular opinion but I sort of agree. Some millionaire shouldn't be also collecting a gov pension, barring some financial or medical disaster. That said I also get the feeling this old fuck just wants more free money for himself, and is eyeing other people's pensions.

At this point, I'm on the rich boomer's side. If we're cutting checks for dumb reasons, might as well cut them to everyone until the system goes bankrupt. My sympathy for old age welfare disappeared about the minute I could read a federal expense budget.

It really blows your mind. I once spun out on black ice on the freeway, narrowly missed hitting two other cars, and ended up in the median facing the wrong way. Time slowed down and it felt almost like I was watching things happen to someone else. That really did it for me. And yet so many boomers, even ones with stories, are exactly what you've described.

Honestly, boomers may have still had more of the serious childhood illnesses. But they were already much less likely to have a classmate die than their greatest/silent gen parents.

Some boomer interactions I recently had that tie into the greater picture of boomerism:

Coworker was flabbergasted at some recent news about police. Says they acted illegally, because police are required by law to fire off warning shots. Source? It says so in some movies and series she saw on TV.

Boomer neighbor complained how nowadays apartments are too cheap and every working class guy owns one or two, and back in her day two people had to work to afford even one apartment. I do not know how she came up with that.
Same neighbor bought multiple apartments and rents them out. She is pretty angry because she has by law to make some repairs etc in them and says that she makes no profit off some of her apartments - she believes the state should reimburse her for that.

I talked with another boomer coworker about money and saving etc. She says she always believed in living frugally and saving and that it's important to have some funds for emergencies. proudly tells me how she saved all her live and has the equivalent of a years wages saved up. She is 60, always had high paying jobs, never had a mortgage and lives for free with her partner. Owns no real estate.. Idk maybe she is the prudent type among her circle but this kinda shocked me.

Unfortunately that's a thing somewhere. It goes about this way:
- Some bastard buys a neglected ruin from the town for, like, symbolical 10 cents or places a bunch of decrepit mobile offices somewhere
-Lets move inside gypsies, alcoholics, junkies, people who just fell out of luck etc - those who nobody of sane mind would rent to
-Charges outrageous prices for the rent, that those can't afford
-But there exists a subsidy from the state. So the inhabitants pay only the part of the rent (still outrageous, but more affordable), and the state pays the owner the rest.
The state doesn't have a tool to evaluate whether the rented spaces are really worth the price and doesn't control if any repairs were done (what's the point, they will ruin it and then burn down anyway). Or doesn't want to deal with it, many of the owners are from the politician mafia, the same kind of moldy alcoholic pork head.

You don't have to like the inhabitants and neither do I, but the point is, that the state (citizens) finance a criminal's business.

That seems to be a cross generational thing. I know loads of millennial 6 fig income types with no savings right now. The typical reason for it is high spending on vacations, pets, clothing, and food. Without derailing the thread, it's almost always women acting this way. I suspect they plan on using a husband (who they'll magically find in their late 30's once they're done having their fun) as their retirement plan.

Oh well, seems this goes back a long way. Aesop's fable of the ants and the grasshopper suggests that people have been like this since time immemorial. Tragically, we no longer get to watch these people starve/freeze in brutal winters.

Its werid because SOME of those people seem like genuinaly good people. Generally it looks like the OLDER boomers are the ones who are the nicer ones. Like the MUCH older ones, The ones who are in there mid 60s seem to be the most annoying.. But the older ones/veterans don't seem to inhibit those traits...

Gen Jones are the worser behaved ones, basically. Incidentally, if you've ever heard a Boomer tell a "funny story" from their youth about how they, say, got away with underage drinking and behave as the Boomer stereotype goes, then it shows that individual has never dealt with real consequences before.

I fucking hate this shit so much. Older folk in both Booms and Xers can't STAND to see someone younger be more efficient than them. At every job I've had, if you were young and effective, they would see it as a challenge to find more work for you or tell you some vague criticism of the work without also telling you good job. It burns out young people. Especially if they see their senior coworkers either doing the same jobs way worse or fuck all and just existing to take up a spot on payroll due to being there since the Pharoah.

I worked with an older Gen X who never took a day off for 5 years and banked vacation, got into assistant manager position, and then is never there because they're constantly taking vacations. Useless "seniority rules" employees.

The boomers that set up these systems (in Europe at least) are the ones with overinflated pensions and taking full benefit, no ABUSING these systems. You see old boomers who worked their entire lives struggle with $200 pensions, while former politicians and business owners have whopping $4000 pensions; a lot more than your average worker, and they sure as hell didn't pay that much into the system, they exploited it at best, but they knew people...

At one place they changed the pension plan and it only benefited the people above 30. Everyone below that would lose money when they contribute into the pension fund.
