Oh, shit, you stepped in it now... not only are you a good guy who wants to lead a moral life and care for your children, but you don't think abortion is a fantastic solution.@Iwasamwillbe currently no. I follow the teachings (as best I can, I'm only human after all) but I walk my own path after parting ways with my teachers. (By the way it would be arhat for me). I don't seek Nirvana but to live a good life, provide for my kids and teach them decent morals they can live by. The idea of perfection in this day and age can be too soul crushing unless you have no responsibilities to burden. Not to mention Buddhism really doesn't take into consideration family. The idea of detachment weighs heavily on that. Could I forsake my children for enlightenment? No not in this life, if I'm alone in the next then I hope to do a better job with my path.
Yes I really do have that many kids. Women here really aren't the family type so they'll either have abortions or give their children up to family members. I couldn't let that happen to my kids in case anything happened to their guardians.
