UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Media darling with a very conspicuously non-English name who supposedly saved people from the Doncaster train attacker has been released from hospital. I'm still waiting for the articles about the non-non-English people who were also instrumental in saving lives that day, who have curiously not been lionised to anywhere near the same extent.

I look forward to tomorrow's article informing us of what he had for breakfast, with further reminders that this guy was non-English.
Isn't this the same rail worker who was a military veteran, though (unless it was someone else present)?

Rather different than the people coming over for gibs that are actually causing the problems - though I doubt that nuance will be explored.

There's nothing preventing people from coming here legally and becoming integrated and productive members of society, time has shown that they just rarely do and that's the issue. Particularly because there's currently zero incentive to do so.

Now deport him.

Fly-tippers bury field in 'shocking' mountain of waste

Not sure if this got mentioned here yet but some group quite literally dumped over one hundred ton of litter in a UK field and now resembles something out of India. It's also directly next to a river so that will likely also turn into something out of India in the very close future.

The local council came out and admitted they don't have the funds to clean this up and are appealing to the government for the funds.

Train driver (who saved the passengers by pulling into Huntingdon station with quick thinking) was a military vet; the man just discharged rfom hospital was a member of the catering crew on the train cafe.

The gov will deny the funding because removing the waste is racism and restroys the beautiful jeet cultural heritage of flytipping. Please respect the rubbish saar

No the train driver is a white, British military veteran who made the choice and arranged to make the train stop at a station it was not meant to.

This would have meant liaising with central control, knowing the route, keeping calm head while likely having the emergency intercom going with terrified passengers.

While I applaud anyone who puts themselves in harms way to save another, if they're non white then they should go back to where they came from and take their family with them. I'm not entirely heartless, I think we should send them on their way with our thanks. I've been in situations where I've seen someone be attacked and my first thought was self preservation. I can't imagine the courage involved to risk harm to onesself to save another, especially a stranger. His bravery and ability to react like that when in danger will serve him well in his homeland.

Death penalty.

It looks like someone just overturned a landfill, mostly plastic and sludge, nothing recognisable. How would you even dump this much without being noticed?

Tell me who it was, I will personally return every ounce to them for free.

It will be a “recycling” company.
There’s plenty of them on companies house with advisories or enforcement notices that change hands to delay enforcement or move next to a docks to export to foreign landfill or have a fire because fuck the locals lungs.
Looking at pics it’s got that even sorted texture to it from sifting and storage.

My point was more about how news outlets deal with stories like these and always seem to conveniently find a lone non-English hero about which to fawn over for a few weeks.

This is at least the third time I can think of in recent months in which a brown savage has committed some atrocity in England and the very next day (or even later that same day), the papers have been awash with headlines to the effect of "Local non-white man named Mohammad Whatever saved 50,000 lives (including an entire orphanage, a puppy rescue shelter and King Charles himself) from knife-wielding assailant".

It just seems to me like a very transparent attempt to push back against the daily influx of evidence that diversity isn't so much a strength as it is a very expedient way to ruin your country and have your daughters preyed on. But look - this one saved some lives on a train maybe, so infinity immigrants is actually a good thing!

I read the orignal article and It actually pissed me off. Given the nature of most home thefts it's unlikely the perpetrators will be caught. Hopefully they turn up at a local antique shop.

Shame this only applies to the ''new arrivals'' and not retrospectively.
Adding new gov announcements;
- The automatic right to housing and cash support for anyone who claims asylum will no longer be the case
- Support will become “discretionary”
- People who can work but refuse to, or who break the law and ignore removal directions, can all lose support [not will lose all support]
- Migrant access to benefits will also undergo a consultation with new requirements on who can receive or keep them [and the consultants are likely all muzzies too]

This really is a scramble for Reform votes. Rayner leadership challenge? it's fucking over

Angela Rayner said to be plotting leadership challenge against Sir Keir Starmer
This is why he was so reluctant to fire her back then. As long as she was in the cabinet, he could keep her neutralised, monitored, and isolated.

Torygraph reports a claim that she's already offering cabinet roles, so it sounds like this is a firm bet. I guess we're going to see at least a three-way race between Starmer, Rayner, and Streeting. They'll probably be openly courting the unions in a few weeks.

Too many replies to include them all but this is why I clarified I was unsure.

In this case, who gives a fuck about him then.

Agreed. As soon as his name was announced shortly after the attack I immediately saw smug tweets about how this completely invalidates any arguments against immigration, not the narrative reform want, etc.

I was mistaken. Either way, at least this guy has a job unlike most of the boat chancers. It's still indeed completely transparent why he's being fixated on over anyone else present.

In 10 days time, it will be Budget Day.

Thereafter (or possibly even before) the bloodbath will begin.

Thankfully, we're coming up to the end of the year and there will only be 13 sitting days in the HoC before Christmas, therefore any big moves will have to start in January.

That said, I think it's perfectly possible that Starmer could prorogue Parliament without a legal challenge throughout December - the unpopular Leadbetter bill is due for further debate soon but it's looking less likely that it will be made law or indeed sent to the HoL by Christmas (and it's likely to be refused and bounced back in any case) and delaying it until early 2026 wouldn't be an issue - there might even be time to water it down during the break.

Apart from that, there's not much Parliamentary business scheduled for December bar some written questions and oral statements.

How can Starmer do this? Well, remember back in 2019 that Boris prorogued Parliament not long after succeeding Theresa May as PM and did so to form a 'new legislative agenda'. Starmer could take counsel from his team and work out how best to use prorogation to a) avoid a leadership challenge which could result in a GE if the new PM chooses to go to the people for their backing, b) to work out how best to get the rebels in line and to expel those who refuse to back him as PM and c) if there is to be a GE early in 2026 (if...) to make plans now and set a date for it... assuming that Parliament reconvenes on Monday 5th January that would mean Thursday 19th February if it were a six week purdah. Remember that only Starmer can call for a GE at any time before the automatic date of August 2029, and it is thanks to Boris that the Fixed Term Parliament Act is no longer a thing and it allows the PM of the day to go to the Palace at any time and also prorogation now cannot be legally challenged - there will be no Gina Miller type person demanding in HM Courts that Parliament sit if King Charles III agrees to a 12 day (Friday, Saturday and Sunday not counted) prorogation on the lines of 'The PM wishes to form a new legislative agenda on the many issues facing the United Kingdom'.

This, to most of the sheep class, won't be seen as a problem - it'll be manufactured and sold as 'Starmer's actually doing something but just needs time, goddammit!' and the useless idiots on the Socials will probably eulogise Starmer for being 'sooo stunning and brave.'

Here's what I think he'll do:

* If the Budget fails to pass or there is enough push back, he'll then seek counsel as to prorogation - being so close to Christmas, he won't want a Christmas GE therefore he'll arrange for one early in 2026 as a VONC in the Government will likely trigger this as no other party will work with Labour whilst Starmer is the leader and he will refuse to stand down willingly.

* A call to arms - privately, 'back me or fuck off' to be the message

* Withdraw the whip from Streeting and tell rebels 'this will happen to you as well, I am the PM!'

* Block Burnham from standing as a PPC in either Ashton-under-Lyme (if vacated by Rayner) or Gorton & Denton if the controversial Andrew Gwynne MP is sacked by the party for his previous misdemeanors.

If he can somehow pull it out of the fire and start 2026 in a better position than now, it will be a miracle, my bet is that he knows he's on a hiding to nothing but his refusal to go and/or face a leadership contest will be the beginning of a very painful end.

I don't know if he'll go that far, streeting had something like 100 mps on his side during his shitty coup attempt, he'll definitely lower his tolerance for dissent but removing the whip from such a prominent labour mp might make streeting loyalists think "It's now or never"

this is very plausible, burnham has the support and the media training to actually launch a leadership challenge if he gets elected, burnham is in a tough position atm if he tries to run for one of the seats it'll be obvious he's launching a leadership challenge that starmer can prepare for but if he does nothing it's doubtful that labour will be able to claw back any votes from reform

Can't the British judges sentence people to community service, which can include cleaning up trash in public areas? Or have minimum security prisoners do chain gang work (which doesn't actually involve chains these days) ?

To be fair, at least in this instance, the issue isn't so much the manpower as is the logistics of moving all of the stuff - that's why the council can't afford it. I believe they said it's a hundreds tonnes of waste.

This occurrence is far beyond your average fly tip or accumulation of litter out a car window, this seems to be a "waste management" company grifting. Of course the perpetrators need to be tracked down, but anyone that contracted them needs a fucking knock at their door too.

Why does everyone think the fly-tippers are foreign? Since Brexit most the east Europeans have buggered off so nearly all contractors are actually British. It's hard work too, so you don't see many blacks or Asians.

There's plenty of white British men running small construction companies that are no better than gypsies, couple this with all the weird restrictions and costs for waste that the green nonsense being enacted by councils and government, and it makes fly-tipping attractive to even the most honest of small firms.

If we handled commercial waste cheaply then there wouldn't need to be a need to fly-tip.

Yet we can't even get regular bins emptied. My council went gay about bulk uplifts for a while, so you'd find yourself putting an old mattress outside you house then pretending it was dumped by some persons unknown it get it removed quickly and for free.

So, Covid "conspiracy theorists" were actually correct all along?

Link / Archive

The public health watchdog has been accused of a “cover-up” after refusing to publish data that could link the Covid vaccine to excess deaths.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) argued that releasing the data would lead to the “distress or anger” of bereaved relatives if a link were to be discovered.

Public health officials also argued that publishing the data risked damaging the well-being and mental health of the families and friends of people who died.

Last year, a cross-party group expressed alarm about “growing public and professional concerns” over the UK’s rates of excess deaths since 2020.
