It's mostly a problem of not having a phone case. Every phone now is made of polished glass and they slide around like they're coated in teflon. If you don't use a case it's all but certain that at some point you'll set it on a table and it will slide off and land on the floor. 10 years ago every phone had a rubberized back and this wasn't a problem.

When you can buy a tempered glass screen protector and a case for a few dollars online, you'd have to be a retard not to use these. My recently retired 5 year old phone has both of these, and underneath the screen protector and the case, it's still good as new.

Unlike much of my other stuff my phone is typically in very good condition because I always immediately put a case and protector on it. That way I usually don't have to debate whether to keep a perfectly functional phone with a cracked screen or spend the money to replace it. Although I probably would tend to side with the former since I dgaf what people think of my phone. at least until I got tired of the cracked screen.

I don't understand people who would rather be on guard all the time to not let their phone slip. Even if you're careful your phone is going to gradually accumulate dings without protection.
