The kid was doomed as soon as he was named "Talmage".The entire time i had a feeling he wants to become his son. The way he looked at him had me thinking of a vampire looking at a virgin.
It's almost like he wants to life long enough so he can swap himself with a younger version of himself and keeps going on (something similar to "Fat Farm" by Orson Scott Card). The fact he has absolutely no problem of draining his son blood to rejuvenate himself at a cost of son's health tells you a lot about him.
The way he cried because Talmage was going to college and leaving him was uncanny to watch. It was almost malicious. Idk how to explain this.
But maybe its just my tism talking.
It's really weird. It's like he dropped the religious aspects of Mormonism, but remains absolutely Mormon in his metaphysics. For those that don't know, Mormons believe in a physical resurrection instead of a spiritual afterlife, in which there is no sickness or aging. Jehovah's Witnesses believe in something similar as well.I can definitely appreciate the desire to not want to die, especially when you reach middle age...But i cant help but feel that this guy isn't really living a good and healthy life. all he does is throw various fake science experiments at his body, and then obsess over the results, day after day..no going to concerts or seeing shows, hanging out with friends, no actual interests. sounds like a mind crushingly boring existence. the sad thing is that he honestly doesnt really look younger at all, he looks exactly like he should for his age.
i hope he can find peace for whatever inner turmoil is plaguing him.
