Funny enough California was ranked #49 for personal and financial freedom. Honestly I'd almost be tempted to stay here if this happened just to watch it collapse from the inside.

That or join a militia group in Grass Valley or some shit.

Oh, one other thing about geography versus military base in San Diego: folks forget that the entire western boarder is made up of the rocky mountains, with a very limited amount of single lane roads or tunnels bored thru. Its actually very defensible because there's no way to get relief troops in if those are blocked / blown.
That's what airlifts are for.

I don't understand this shit at all.
They're in the middle of a water crisis right? And they're getting a decent amount of water from the government so they can go on with their hipster lives right? I've seen people talk about MUH AGRICULTURE to support Calexit, but how they can support their fucking agricultural industry with NO FUCKING WATER? And what about even more obvious issues like currency? Are they prepared to switch to a brand fucking new currency right now? Is it even possible for them to switch to a viable new currency? And do they honestly believe their own state government will support this shit?
Are they retarded or am I just misinformed?

Don't underestimate the boundless stupidity of urban California liberals. Their complete inability to empathize with or even just consider other people disagree with them is why this state is in such a mess right now.

The first article of the new constitution will be about the irrefutable right of every man to watch is wife having sex with a stranger

Like I said in another comment: CA is in the middle of an historic drought, but Northern California has plenty of water, both sources and reservoirs. The SF Bay Area gets water piped in from the Hetch Hetchy reservoir which is snow melt from the Rockies (ironically, the reservoir was fought against by environmentalists because it flooded a national park / wildlife environment).

The Central Valley and Southern California do need water piped in. I suppose the Hetch Hetchy pipeline could be extended, although it would reduce the water reserves.

Eh, its a complicated situation. Basically because of extremely lucrative subsidies into soy, corn, and wheat it pushed fruits, vegetables, flowers, wine and nuts into places like Texas and California where the farmers tend to be more affluent than the rest of the country and therefore in a better position to grow things that aren't beef or grain.

However California's advantage is that they have the longest growing season and the most fertile soil in the United States. No other state, or even a combination of states, can match California’s output per acre. The main limiting factor is water availability, which is provided by a combination of the Sierra Nevada snowmelt, groundwater from the San Joaquin Valley and the Colorado River.

California currently produces the majority (75% or more) of the following in the United States, bold means that California produces >99% of that agricultural product:

Without California, supply of all these products in the United States and abroad would dip, and in the first few years, a few might be nearly impossible to find.

Price surges would eventually become the larger issue. Rising prices would force Americans to consume more grains, which are locked in a complicated price-dependent relationship with fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats. When the price of produce increases, people eat more grain. When the price of grain drops, people eat more fruits and vegetables. (In fact, in some parts of the world, wheat and rice are the only proven “Giffen goods”—a product in which decreasing prices lead to decreasing demand.) Young people and the poor in America, more than others, eat less fresh food when prices rise.

The loss of California’s output would create a dire situation for at least a few decades. History suggests, however, that we’d eventually find a way to cope. A state’s agricultural makeup can evolve surprisingly quickly—California’s certainly did. In the 1860s, the state’s leading crops were wheat and corn. Beginning in the 1880s, however, the state ceased to be the nation’s breadbasket and became its fruit and vegetable basket. Rail-links made transcontinental food shipments possible. Cities on the Eastern seaboard offered staggeringly high prices for produce. Interest rates dropped from 100 percent during the Gold Rush that began in 1849 to 30 percent in 1860 to 10 percent in the 1890s. This decline afforded California farmers the time to change over to slow-developing crops such as nuts and tree fruits. The land under irrigation grew four-fold from 1889 to 1914. Manufacturers of farm equipment relocated to California and designed equipment specifically for the state’s farming conditions, the same way automobile parts suppliers flooded Detroit in the early 20th century and computer engineers moved to Silicon Valley in the 1990s.

Extremely interesting, thank you.

No offense, but when we see who's lining up to be the governor of California... We Eurofags can't help but chuckle.

I made them a nice flag if they want it.

What even is California's agriculture? The only foods they export to other states are shitty oranges and dates. Hell, if any state feeds half the nation, it's fucking Texas because not only do they grow crops, they also supply meat and dairy, and Texas

Like I said in another comment: CA is in the middle of an historic drought, but Northern California has plenty of water, both sources and reservoirs. Most of the agriculture is in the central valley though, isn't it? That's the big problem with the water rights. Even without the Colorado, everyone would have enough to drink, but they wouldn't have enough to continue to be an agricultural giant.

Calexit is rather funny. Basically the only reason these people are calling for outright independance rather than simply a greater devolution of powers is because many of them are unable to admit they now are in exactly the same position as Republicans at the beggining of Obama's run and that now that the federal government may institute policies they disagree with they find themselves wishing to cut ties with Washington.

Actually California is the #1 dairy producer in the US while Texas is only sixth or seventh. They also supply a lot of fruits, vegetables, and nuts. So the US would take a pretty big hit in food production.
Then again, we'd be losing about 40 million mouths to feed (about 12% of our population). And we'd still have California's agricultural industry by the balls, so we could get foodstuffs imported for little more than what we already give them.

And the red parts of the state are where all the food is grown, so they really have no business holding food production over the rest of the country's head.

Personally I can't wait for when we won't even have bottled water after driving all those companies out. Californians have made that the big bad guy of the water crisis even though the entire bottled water industry makes up like half a percent of our water consumption.
