Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

MW2019's motif was "we get dirty, and the world stays clean." Meanwhile, Shepherd's Shadow Company "betrays" 141/Los Vesquerzes for the greater good to get Hassan. Wouldn't that be the same thing? It cannot even keep up with its own leitmotif.
I'm not going to lie, I liked Shadow Company and Graves more than the Vaqueros/141 in MWII.

The whole "killing civilians" thing in the mission right afterward made no sense and felt super forced just to justify Soap/Ghost wanting to kill them.

It feels like MWII was trying to make a half hearted statement about American intervention with Graves' betrayal into Mexico. What was the point of the Cartel?

What was the point of the Cartel?
What has been the point of any of this?

Modern Warfare 2019 honestly feels so fucking disconnected from Modern Warfare II which from everything I read feels so fucking disconnected with Modern Warfare III.

Which I wouldn't give a shit about, but nothing ever seems to truly get wrapped up.

I don't like Graves. His dialogue is cliche, macho, witty military man. His one-liners and personality feels cartoony and forced. Shadow Company was Shepherd's faction after the federal government gave him a blank check in MW2. In MWII, I think Shepherd went behind the books. This could've been elaborated much better.

You know, I think a reason for the disconnect between the recent MW sequels is due to a change in writers.

The guy in charge of the story for MW2019 (who also wrote the extremely underrated campaign for Infinite Warfare), Taylor Kurosaki, left Infinity Ward sometime during the production of MW2 2022. So that could be an explanation for the wildly different tones and motifs.

What was the point of the Cartel?
Memberberries for Militia in MW2. You know, brazilian gangbangers that, for whatever reason, had hundreds of gang members in combat gear, technicals and military grade rifles all ready to go at the moment's notice without as much as a single cop wondering in to see what all the gunfire was about after an entire day's worth of bullets, grenades and rockets flying around complete with helicopters flying about. That stupid sequence, the entire Cartel thing is "Favela at home" but also le hardhitting relevant content because of Trump's half finished wall and illegal migrants. Still too pussified to make any allusions to Verdansk being Ukraine or the current war going on, so not as hard hitting as they think.

That explains absolutely everything. I knew MW5 would be sillier, simply because MW2 was when the series jumped the shark(or rather took a leap of faith over a giant chasm in a snowmobile), but at least MW4/2019 felt grounded. MW5 felt like a cartoon, a bad one, and all the anime/actual cartoon skins in multiplayer didn't help.
Guess add IW to the latest list of casualties where most of who made the studio what it was left, and yes I mean nu-IW after the infamous MW2 lawsuit with the studio's founders, but at least they still delivered some bangers before MW5.

God save my soul, another year another Call of Duty. I saw footage of Terminal and decided I needed to get bent over by Activision for another year.

Just got the game installed and theres a battle pass already? There wasnt one at the launch of MW2, also all my content from MW2 seems to be present. I know it was rumored this was supposed to be some expansion, but I didnt realize it would be so blatant.

It had Spawn in it, I havnt actually gotten to play MW3 yet so I dont know if its connected to the MP for that or 2.
Yeah, that's the battle pass that is going on for MWII right now, I'm pretty sure. (Someone that looked like Spawn and sounded like Keith David killed me last night at least so...)

It probably just carries over since this is just a glorified DLC/Map Pack.

Putting superheroes in the game really turned me off the whole experience.
Ive only played the first month or two of each release the last few years. Is this a common thing? I was looking at operators and theres Skeletor , NIcki Minaj, and Ash. Just seems weird to have on release but like everyone is saying this is basically an expansion pack.

Yeah, it was jarring because I stopped playing during Season 3 reloaded, so I come in and like...half the characters are rappers or horror icons. Kortac has some kind of Lilith Demon which I guess is from Diablo 4?

IDK if it's just cause it's late in the games life or what, but I only saw Spawn when I played Invasion, followed by a BUNCH of Lara Crofts running around.

It's weird as fuck. Even weirder than the glam rock characters that were added into Cold War IMO.

I gotta admit, the idea of a COD campaign being more open-ended with the level design and allowing for the objectives to be completed in a free-form manner does sound like a really cool idea. Especially with how much people complain about the games being too scripted and linear.

But of course, because this is Activision rushing the devs to put it out in a year, MWIII falls completely flat in this area, given that all it amounts to is a glorified DMZ match. They really didn’t need to have it out so soon.

Somebody confirm this for me.

In MWIII, over half of the unlocks (weapons, scorestreaks, equipment) are locked behind completing daily challenges. Grinding to max rank does not unlock every weapon or equipment anymore. You only get three dailies a day AND you can only progress one unlock at a time.

This jabroni is calling the map packs from Black Ops and Black Ops 2 "seasons"

Edit: People on the MWIII subreddit are claiming that based on what Activision/Sledgehammer said previously, it's bugged right now and this system was only meant to be able to unlock stuff "out of order" but for some reason it's the *only* unlock working.

Some are also theorizing that shit was done deliberately until all regions unlock to stop assholes who set their consoles to New Zealand to get in early from having too much of an advantage.

Oh dear
Highlights:
*CAMPAIGN IS CONSTANTLY CRASHING(literally never happened to me in the almost 20 years of playing these games)
*COD HQ, lol lmao
*"MWII is needed to play this content", totally not a fully priced DLC
*Massive ban wave due to AI overseeing everything and not knowing what the fuck it's doing. Hackers get off scott free, random people getting perma-banned for no reason. I predicted this exact same thing happening earlier in the thread, since we've seen the exact same thing happening in the beta
*Playing MWIII can reset your rank in MWII and vice versa since the multiplayer client for both games is so similar it gets confused if you try to run it again from a different game

The future of gaming, by Microsoft.

My starting assault rifle has 86 different sights. What the fuck it takes 30 seconds to scroll through all of them.

Whoever did UI design for this game should legally be forbidden from touching a computer again.

Wow, I'd rather deal with the MWII weapon unlock system than this.
