Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

Call of Duty at this point is neither a free to play game or a subscription based game.
Technically, you're wrong. Warzone is "free-to-play" through a separate download/client. It can be argued that Call of Duty titles ARE indirectly subscription based since they were available through PS+ and will be on Game Pass. And don't forget the exclusivity deals with DLC. Yes, it's still a boxed product but only through technicality.

So do you need Modern NuFare 2 bought/installed to even play NuFare 3? So fucking confusing, I don't want to bother with the campaign if it's just Warzone maps tbh

No. MWIII is a separate product (in theory) but you will need to download a Call of Duty portal I believe.

You're paying $70 for a underwhelming four hour campaign stitched together with Warzone/DMZ assets, remastered MW2 maps from years ago, 240 GB of bloated software, an unearned cliffhanger, a UI redesign and Warzone. What a ripoff.

Man, it’s so blatantly obvious that this was meant to be an expansion for MWII, that has been stretched thin to barely resemble an actual full release.

Seriously Activision. Can you not let a good thing stay as is already?

Don't forget hackers from day one, since the engine has been cracked for a long while now. Obviously, the anti cheat isn't doing shit about it and neither is Activision, but god help you if the AI that always records and listens to what you have to say hears you say something even remotely sounding like a slur, that's an auto-shadow ban for you. Sometimes, it may just ban you on accident, it happened before.
At this point, I'm just done with this shit. I feel like the fanbase has gotten too stupid to ever be helped, if I have to make another rant about this game I feel like I will need to buy that retard helmet BT shilled for the sake of my health because it is no different than hitting my head against a brick wall.
The games have been extremely easy to hack for a while and Activision is not planning to do anything about it. I'm too busy and don't give enough of a damn to make it my priority, but at this point I am seriously considering getting back in the griefing scene and fucking with some people in this game. Anyone who still buys this shit deserves to get harassed, preferably by locking their account with hundreds of dollars worth of paypig skins or getting bullied from playing the game altogether, talking about people who are running these 24$ skins in particular. I think the new mod menus allow you to do a whole lot more fun stuff too, and you regularly see cheaters in high ladder games so it's not like the "revolutionary" Ricochet Anti-Cheat they shilled so much even detects them. I will have to keep my ear to the ground, because this is about the only way to have fun in this game anymore with how thick the SBMM is unless I want to fire up a BillyGoat57 account and do poorly on purpose just to connect to normal human beings instead of an MLG lobby and get a few good matches in. I rarely even had a problem with SBMM in the older games and even had a few seasons where I absolutely dominated, but it looks like it has completely ruined the games now.

Cold War has apparently been cracked btw, so if you know where to look, you might just find yourself with a free copy of it. I seriously do hope the new game gets cracked as well, as unlikely as that is within this year. I'm getting a new computer soon, so that would just be the stars aligning for me right there.
BTW, try and understand how fucked this is for a moment: Cold War has been cracked, with other modern games likely to follow. Cheating problem is about to get a whole lot worse and at this point, Activision is too incompetent to stop it even if they wanted to. The quality of these games is about to take a nosedive, and I don't think it can afford that anymore.

Why on Earth does the nu-MW trilogy have introductory cutscenes with the locale in big white text and then have it subtitled in much smaller text?

Style over substance. They think they're making a tv show. Ubishit does the same with the "a Ubisoft Original" on their titlecards.

One good thing I will say about nu-MW is that I liked the intros for Multiplayer matches. Sure, they removed the spawn themes and great announcers, but I do like how there is cinematics of players riding in a truck or going up an elevator or even just grabbing and arming their guns before the match instead of just spawning in like in a game of Halo or Quake.
Still doesn't excuse all the other flaws both Multiplayer and the game as a whole exhibits. Funny that you mention Ubisoft, XDefiant is releasing soon and it will be very interesting to see how the two square up against each other. I want Ubisoft to win this one, just because it would be the hilarious outcome

This is the list of their clients

That’s just what they’re allowed to show though. Activision could very well be one of their clients. It’s one of those shady companies like blackrock.
Having EA and Activision together is like having cats and dogs in the same room, or rather big bullies joining together to bully other people. Also, most of these companies collect BlackRock money just to appease the current year woke crowd

I'm like 99% sure it has something to do with foreign language subtitles, since the pre rendered cutscenes would not have the big white text translated.

The subtitles are probably just done in bulk or something, and Activision is too lazy to tell the team doing the subtitles "don't do this one" for the English batch, as well as too lazy to deactivate them/remove them after they are done.

Remind me to play Cold War's campaign soon. I heard it's a direct sequel to Black Ops 1. Does it recton the previous Black Ops games? I'm just lazy.

I'm sure it's miles better than MW2019, MWII, Vanguard and MWIII.

Cold War itself doesn't retcon anything, as it takes place before the events depicted in Black Ops 2.

Some may argue that the Warzone integration could retcon the 2025 events of Black Ops 2, but that requires you to be really autistic and/or give a shit about Warzone "story" which at this point I'm pretty sure Activision stopped giving a shit about during Vanguard.

Also, just an FYI, Cold War features Mason, Hudson and Woods but they are more secondary characters in the game next to Adler. I still really loved Cold War but just feel like that should be mentioned.

Tell you what, I'll do a run-through on Veteran and never touch it again. I loved Black Ops 1's story when it resonated on me over time. Black Ops 2 onward felt unnecessary IMO.

You might want to run the game again, there is several endings and choices that change the flow of the game, even an ARG puzzle with randomly generated answer so you can't scum your way into solving it with a guide. Cold War single player is arguably the only worthwhile thing that the modern COD gave us by a long mile, the only bit that actually feels like something that would be released in a good COD game anyways.

I heard there's side missions for an investigative plot line. Are these intergal to the endings? I remember Black Ops II did something like that with Strike Force missions. In reality, they were multiplayer maps with a sorry excuse of squad commanding.
