Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

These are the only 2 skins I like in Black Ops 6. They're simple and fit the theme of the game. I like immersion, even in COD. The more dumbass cosmetics are added, the less I play. I know it's beating a dead horse at this point, but it must be highlighted how utterly retarded Black Ops 6's cosmetics are. Most of it seems ai-concepted just like the calling cards and emblems are now.

Well I can certainly understand why moronic skins like Niki Minaj and cheech and Chong break immersion. Actually made a video complaining about it and the comments were 50/50. Half accepted that cod has lost its way. The other half were about to OD on cope.

This is all actually correct 1990s kit, like at least they made the bare effort to Google "1990s SWAT team" and "1990s chest rig." Just imagine what the Black Ops series would be like if they'd actually made this kind of effort the entire time, going all the way back to the first one. Instead, you get two period-authentic skins and the rest of it is Saturday morning cartoon garbage.

There's ONE premium bundle that matches the 90s aesthetic, which involves Marshall. And it's $5.

Of course, it involves graffiti with a Black operator, but I'm making a point that it is possible to have cosmetics that can align with the 90s/Gulf War setting and not have them be extravagant.

Marshall has some of the better cosmetics. His Heist skin from the campaign looks great. A damn shame we still don't have regular Adler too.
I saw the Prestige Master skin for Marshall.

For a mastery reward, it's underwhelming, especially since the other base skins have more flair to them.

I wish we were able to turn the glow off of the skin, it's a great skin but it's a bit disorientating seeing the viewmodel not have a glow but the legs do, speaking of skins being tainted by effects, the gold dipped skin for Nazir looks incredible, until the reactive quality kicks in and just makes it look like shit.

I don't know how to merge posts but yeah, Adler's outfit from hunting party was in the beta as apart of finisher previews but did we get a year of the snake cosmetic instead of that or heaven forbid his most iconic look, the leather jacket.

There's something about Black Ops 6 that deters me from playing it anymore, even with the limited time events regarding weapons and perks. The honeymoon phase with this game is ruined.

Black Ops 6 seems AI generated which makes it feel unpleasant to actually play. I get the same creepy feeling from this game that I get from looking at disturbing AI art or reading bot posts where it just feels wrong.

To be honest, I don't even like civilian clothes in my GI Joe simulator.

That's it. It has no natural staying power. It has very little identity with itself. Locking weapons and perks behind limited time events is a cheap way to do it.

with all the Gaming hate channels on YouTube that are dedicated specifically to Call of Duty (Fooly,Blame Truth,Eight Thoughts, etc etc.) you would think that Activision is struggling to stay sustainable with the amount of pissed off fans they have, but it honestly seems like they literally dont give a fuck about what their public image is online, its actually kind of impressive from a certain prespective, i wonder if theres enough third-world retards buying bundles, Blackcell, etc. keeping Activision afloat

Speaking of YouTube,

This video inspired me to continue my Veteran playthrough for World at War. I don't even think that difficulty was playtested. Grenade spam, enemy aimbot and infinite enemy respawns makes it a miserable experience.

I'm currently at the level with the fire breathing tank. I'm not looking forward to Heart of the Reich.

I'm stuck trying to decide if any of the CoDs available on PS5 are worth picking up these days. I've played Ghosts, Infinite Warfare, and BO4 a ton - they're good, just dealing with some burnout. MW2019 onwards all feel boring; got 2019, Cold War, and 2023 as part of sale again recently, but I'm having issues. Same with WWII, as aside from the Shipment and Hordepoint playlists, there's not much activity in the Multiplayer side of things, and both Zombies and Campaign aren't all that interesting.

Advanced Warfare's the last PS4/5 CoD to pick up, but I remember playing it a while back; Multiplayer was somehow both dead enough to make finding matches a chore, and active enough that the SBMM still gave me issues.

Alrighty! I've finally beat Call of Duty: World at War on Veteran difficulty! Definitely one of the hardest entries in the series proper. I'd say more cheap than "hard" because World at War LOVES to spam grenades towards you in an effort to "push" the player forward. Of course, when the enemies infinitely spawn through hallways and beam you on sight, it defeats the purpose of playing methodically in a traditional sense.

Smoke grenades are a Godsend as they not only provide mobile cover, but weakens the enemy's accuracy against you. Squad AI is not the smartest; I've seen them shoot through cover. They CAN be handy in some missions if they progress forward, which is a tell that YOU could push forward.

Frustration aside, it's one of my proudest gaming achievements given its infamous status OF being a difficult CoD to endure.

So, I was taking a look at MW23 again, and I think I know why the game just feels so crap to me; aside from the SBMM I think it's honestly the map design.

Let me explain; in previous CoDs, the map all tended to feel like actual parts of the world, you know? Ghosts's maps all felt like actual post-apocalyptic areas that people lived in, WWII's maps felt like WW2 battles, BO3's maps all fit well with the "simulation" story they were going with, BO4's maps all had distinct designs and themes to them, etc. Hell, even Vanguard's maps had some unique ideas, like Mayhem, which was set in a movie studio, or Beheaded, which was about dealing with the aftermath of a monster attack on New York. Basically, all the maps had a distinct "character" to them, with each of them having their own appeal and all feeling like part of the world they were a part of in some way. Every one of them felt unique, even when we had reused maps like Ghosts having two versions of "Dome"; it felt like they designed the world first with concepts in mind, then put the playable maps in them.

Then we get to MW23, and... there's only 2 maps out of the 65 in-game that actually feel memorable, and none of them really felt "fun". It feels like Activision made the most generic possible maps; yes, we got unique locations like Tokyo and Paris, but they just feel like random locations the devs put into the game, rather than actual parts of the game world. Every map feels like they have the same general layout with a different skin slapped over them, to say nothing of the actual multiple reskins they shoved into the game; everything just feels slap-dashed together, with nothing that really makes them appealing.

Basically, the maps feel too "video-gamey", with no real consistency or immersion to them.

Case in point: Grime, which is supposed to be set in London. There's nothing to the map that really comes across as a standout feature; it's just a random dockyard surrounded by buildings, with the same "three-lane" design most of the other maps use, not even any distinct landmarks in the area/background that make it feel like you're in London. Same thing with Tokyo, which aside from all the neon colors and some aesthetics, just feels like another CoD map. Hell, Bait has a restaurant with only one table and a dock house on the second/center level... with no way to reach the water and no door large enough to remove the boat inside.

It's especially bad with the Vortex maps, which were supposed to be more horror/apocalyptic-themed versions of other maps, but... they just don't hit. Airborne looks decent enough - like The Last of Us or something - but the other maps just feel dull; Das Gross looks like it was made for shock value, and Satan's Quarry... you guys made a map set in literal hell, but you couldn't put it anywhere else? Like a city, for a Doom or Metal: Hellsinger aesthetic, or something? Why a quarry?

Seriously, if you guys needed a horror map... why not Fog from Ghosts? Or make something that feels a bit more unique or fun; hell, I could imagine a remix of Vortex from the original MW3, like a tornado of souls.

Also... did we really need 6-7 versions of Shipment? I get that it's popular with CoD kiddies, but just one would've been enough on a 24/7 playlist.

It's a genuine shame, too, because I REALLY LIKE the weapon variety of MW23; we've got melee weapons like the spear or sledgehammer, launchers like the Stormender and bow, unique guns like the MORS, and the Conversion Kits make for some really interesting weapon variety. The gameplay feels fun - when it isn't getting fucked by the SBMM - but the complete lack of anywhere interesting or fun to actually play in kills it.

It's part of the reason why I'm of two minds on BO6, honestly; yes, it's a modern CoD with all the shit that it entails, but I'm genuinely curious on the actual gameplay, and some of the maps look genuinely more interesting than the entirety of MW23, frankly.

EDIT: Fixed a few things.

for Campaign's it depends on your taste, I wouldnt waste time trying to play a CoD Multiplayer that isn't the current year CoD because they always fucking a die a quick death, I think the Normalfags who are desperate and play older CoD Multiplayers are delusional, like I get it, but theres so many hackers its not even worth trying imo, CoDs become an absolute disgrace in my honest opinion, I wont even consider downloading Black Ops II.5 or whatever the 2025 title is, a lot of multiplayer gaming in general has become hard to enjoy for me and its the worst offender

Yeah, I find it a bit difficult to really get into the Singleplayer side of things myself; Infinite Warfare's was pretty good, but it's been a while since I really got into any one of them for a while now. I really should try them again...

Also, slight disagreement on the Multiplayer; yes, they do tend to die pretty quickly, but some of the games are still solid even today. PS4/5 Ghosts didn't really have any hackers until recently, and even today I'm still finding some fun enough TDM games... though it does take a while, I admit. BO4's still fairly active as well, I actually got some S&D and Dom matches going fairly recently, though the hacking problem is a little more widespread on there. Also, Private Matches are still a thing, and surprisingly fun; had more entertaining moments on Private Matches on Ghosts and BO4 than I've had on MW23's lifecycle. IW is hit-or-miss, though; it's either dead, or you find TDM matches that're dominated by Synaptic players with Titan LMGs, almost no in-between.

Also, can't forget the "third" modes; Extinction on Ghosts is great, same with Zombies on... basically all of the older CoDs that had it. Even WWII had some fun ideas with it, even though I wasn't a fan, personally.

I feel the same way with Black Ops 6's map design. Many of the maps are serviceable at best, but none really stand out as "iconic" compared to the Golden Age of Call of Duty. I've found WWII's base maps generic if you boil them down to three lane maps. Gustav Cannon is the only standoff map, only because it's the biggest of the base maps.

The series crapping itself after MWII made me sad because the DMZ mode in that was legit great fun and free to play to boot.

On the other hand extraction shooters in general aren't doing great right now so might just be a genre curse.

Never did pick up the DLC for WWII; I've considered it before, but I was honestly struggling to really get invested in the game. Mostly because it feels like more of a grind to get some of the later stuff; not like I really hate the game, mind, but it's just not for me.

I'm heard a bunch of mixed stuff on BO6; the Suid Game cosmetics were pretty crap from what I've heard, but I haven't heard as much negativity for the TMNT stuff, ironically. Zombies is hit or miss as well, as does the Campaign. I might give the game a shot IF, and only if, I can get it for cheap/free; I'm not making the same mistake I did with MWIII. Yes, I bought MWIII at full price last year, because a friend of mine was basically begging me to get it so we could play Zombies together... then we only played three times before he ditched it. Still had fun with it, but I'm not dropping $70 on another CoD.
