Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

same as MW2019 maps like Piccadilly or the cave map filtered them out because you needed strategy and teamwork to succeed there
Domination on Piccadilly and Hardpoint on Azhir Cave were extremely fun if your team was not entirely fucking stupid...which they often were, but still, sometimes you got 1-2 other good players on your team. People just wanted to play Shoot House and Shipment over and over, though. Any map where getting killed sets you back more than 3.5 seconds is decried by the rushers as "bad."

People don't look back fondly on Ghosts or AW because they were filtered, simple as that. I played these two just as much, if not more, than the older titles and I can tell you the meta was a bit more nuanced than simply running around with a gun or camping in a corner with a sniper rifle.
I regret not appreciating Ghosts' MP in retrospective. Single player was fine enough, but the multiplayer is where CoD has its longevity.

The DLC maps looked creative with the post-apocalyptic theme and secret killstreaks involving popular horror film characters. Obtaining care packages through challenges after killing an enemy was a nice wrinkle. The create-a-class system with perks having "values" allowed for some creativity and experimentation. The maps had character, but they were just too big.

Having to buy a $50 season pass for a game is a hassle to get the full experience.

Nobody cares about Black Ops 6 and nobody wants to talk about it.
I'm not sure what is expected nowadays - Activision just applies the annual rope-a-dope strategy they've been using on CoD players for over a decade and the usuals who buy it cover the expenses. I kinda get it since I've bought games like BF2042 and Halo 5 for franchises I liked and ended up being disappointed, but I also haven't been sinking money into the same failures every year.

I'm sure some people go for mystery and intrigue, but I think Treyarch kind of haemorrhaged under its own name and general story premise (i,e.: Black Ops). A more straightforward account of the Gulf War and everything surrounding it would've been more interesting to me personally, though I guess that wouldn't be in the spirit of that series.

Don't forget using the small maps to grind for weapons/killstreaks. Shoot House as a small map was okay. Having verticality with the huts and middle platform was unique. I know Nuketown had either house, but the houses were cramped.

When I play Origins or Mob of the Dead, the randoms would typically try to complete the easter egg quests but fail two-thirds of the way through. How on Earth are people expect to memorize these steps and execute them?

Precisely, any time the studios try to innovate even a little bit, the fanbase shits itself and the game gets declared "bad". In a way, the current state of COD is exactly what the people still playing it deserve, but it's a shame we went in this direction instead of innovating every year, like we had with Ghosts(tac movement, weening off killstreaks, more squad based tactical gameplay as opposed to fast-paced arcade one-man-army meta, map exclusive care package streaks you have to earn via field orders) or Advanced Warfare(exo suits and exo abilities changed completely everything by adding a new dimension to the gameplay, Pick 13 lets you take 4 killstreaks, less than three or even none for more perks or attachments, brand new types of guns with Direct Energy Weapons, killstreak modules you can edit to your liking, for example turning a UAV into an Advanced UAV by giving it higher point requirement or turning it into a Support streak by not resetting progress towards it on death, or combining both). No, they want to play the exact same game, over and over, with the same exact maps, over and over, and if they won't get their way they will cry like little children. BO6 is exactly what a perfect COD game is in their eyes, and yet the userbase is bleeding more than ever before, funny how that works.

I would think Black Ops III is to Zombies as MWIII is to multiplayer. You play those games for those modes specifically. BO3's Zombies is beloved for whatever reason depending on who you ask.

Does Black Ops III still have a population in multiplayer and Zombies? I ask because it's on sale with its DLC. Zombies would be the draw for me, especially Shadows of Evil.

Late to the party, but I'm genuinely shocked at how much fun I am having playing Verdansk again, this update addressed a bunch of problems I had with WZ2 (pacing, OHK snipers not existing, the map design being super duper liquid dogshit) and it feels really good.
My only complaint is the HDR, Kilo, Grau and AMAX not being classed as Modern Warfare III guns, so I'm forced into using dogshit attachments I don't want to use and having less freedom to have my little LARP kits I could have previously. Still mad they removed the MW ability to change your attachments skins too, so even if they WERE MW guns I couldn't use any of the bundle skins like the Violence and Timing scope on another MW gun, very sad.

Hope they decide to buff the other bolt snipers into OHK's too. MORS as well. Made no sense to ever remove this lol.
Also hope they add some more modern-themed skins for the MW ops, as big a cash grab as it'd be I wouldn't be so against seeing some of the old Milsim skins like the FSB ones, or sort of faithful throwbacks to some stuff like the original designs for Price, Roze (Virago, the green one, not the black ones lol), Ghost (especially Ghost, he had peak vibes in 2020 Verdansk) etc.

Same here; I admit that I was pretty outspoken about my hatred for the game back when it first came out, mostly because I found the gunplay to not feel as great as BO2, but playing it nowadays makes me wish I gave it a better chance.

Too bad you can't find matches for the DLCs; you can occasionally find matches for the first DLC, but the other three are dead.

The maps had character, but they were just too big.

Slight disagreement with this; I found the larger maps encouraged me to experiment with different loadouts, having gearsets designed for each potential situation, and encouraged experimentation. Only map that I agree was too much was Siege, frankly; the map doesn't flow well, and it's a hassle trying to find others on it.

I REALLY hope they just straight up just buff the MW22/3 guns now becasue most of the 2019 classics are already in the game, I am also pissed the AMAX/kilo have to use shitty bo6 attachments too. The update kinda shocked me and honestly I defended warzone 2.0 but there should be a good mix of the game being slow/fast and Verdansk has the perfect vibe.

one shot snipers are kinda cancer though but its what the people want I guess

MW2 and MW3 has been spotted in an Australian Classification rating Board for PS5/Xbox Series X. Note the Arabic numerals, not the Roman numerals. Either Activision is considering a remaster for those two titles or Australia is mistaking the originals for the reboots.

EALLY hope they just straight up just buff the MW22/3 guns now
Agreed, funny enough the Basilisks with snakeshot were apparently super broken strong for about an hour or two when Verdansk launched again, but they reeled those in almost instantly when word started to spread.

I just hope going forward, the MW operators and guns aren't just left in the dust, they weren't back in the Verdansk - Verdansk 84 days
It's shameful, but I would whale pretty hard on some throwback skins like I said lol.

If anything, I just hope the MWII STB 5.56 gets buffed, because I have a 'tism, an AUGtism.

Before the update a lot of old guns were secretly buffed or had their attachments not negatives anymore however the Verdansk update increased the TTK of all bo6 weapon so we went back to square 1 with the mw weapons

A Call of Duty insider is saying that Activision is aware that the monetized skins in Black Ops 6 "look stupid."

Too little too late. I remember Treyarch saying they wanted to preserve their Gulf War setting by not allowing cosmetics from MWII/MWIII to transfer over.

We want to make sure that everybody starts fresh, together, as we move into an all-new experience with the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Allowing everyone to experience the Black Ops universe the way it’s meant to be played, learning the era-specific weapons and gear, learning the gameplay innovations like Omnimovement, and keeping that signature Black Ops style is important.

Therefore, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare® II and Modern Warfare III content will not carry forward to the Black Ops 6 Premium experience.

So, that was a lie. They just wanted to sell more cosmetics.

Im real split becasue I like poncho ghost but the newer "jawless" design especially the desert one or urban jeans goes hard too

The new designs would be completely fine IF his mask had that lower jaw, without it he just looks like a really shitty airsofter. It doesn't help that the artists just kind of pull from "generic" tactical gear and give him literal airsoft quality stuff or Russian/Eastern equipment over slightly modified Western manufactured gear. It's kind of what pisses me off about his "Nightwar" skin. It irks my gear 'tism.
Nigga, why are you wearing Crye's but rocking an external kneepad???
Another thing is the constant need to change his mask in every skin, it's either the old school 2009 balaclava, it's this shitty current design that looks like he's got ghost jizz dripping from the mask, it's the 2019 design with the lower jaw but then skull is metallic red or gold for some unknown reason (and it's also the model pulled from Mace. You can tell when it's Mace's skull because of the straps on the side, Ghosts' skull is stiched into his balcalava.) or it's some airsofter's wet dream of a "scary" mask.

They also changed Maces designed in 22 too, like they were basically teasing the "Ghost" faction existed in the reboot and then dropped it entirely. Even without the skull mask the MW2 mace operator looks better than the BO6 battlepass one they made

I feel the Ghost redesign from MW2 to MWII/MWIII was poorly done. Ghost's design looks "tryhard," trying TOO hard to be menacing when it just looks uncanny.

There's also the complete shift in personality, because I highly doubt if Leach was still voicing Ghost, he'd sound so soy 24/7.
It's both really sad, and really funny, that he got fired. I mean, he was kind of right, especially because it was all towards ZombiUnicorn (the fat chick behind Bully Hunters, if anyone remembers that.) and so I'd argue it was pretty justified (and true). But, I'm also not sure what he expected would happen saying all of that on livestreams lol
