Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

I'm surprised we haven't seen anything set during the Rape of Nanking or involving Unit 731 yet.

The Chinese government would probably be ecstatic that western media would be spreading awareness on the often overlooked war crimes.
The entire Second Sino-Japanese War is ripe for the picking as are those horrific war crimes that even the Germans who witnessed them were appalled at. But I believe that Western developers just can't tear themselves away from having the Nazis be a major enemy of at least one campaign storyline.

I think the lack of Sino-Japanese War coverage might be due to the unfathomable atrocities being too hard to portray and that modern Japan wouldn't take too kindly to such a thing. They've yet to apologize to China for the Rape of Nanking or Unit 731, so they'll likely throw a shitfit if a Western developer made a game about any of that (hell, Sony might refuse to let such a game appear on PlayStation).

wouldn't go over that well with god's chosen people either, can't have people remember there's worse shit out there than 6 gorillion lampshades. like troons they need to be at the top of the oppression stack.

Well. Only took 30 years but here's a couple of atrocities I'm only now being made aware of. This must be some of that aLt-RiGhT 4-ChInZ propaganda the left hate us coming across when we stray from Trusted Sources ™️ and the public school system.

Starting to think Hiroshima and Nagasaki were those slanted eye fucks just dues.

Here are your epic characters that everyone will surely care enough about that they'll get 2 more games... right?

Anyone care that they already released the "ending" to Cold War and it was pretty much just a weird low key pump for Vanguard?

Apparently Stitch did whatever the fuck he did because Verdansk was the "Eastern Front" and Russians died in WWII. I dunno I watched it while half asleep last night but it seemed pretty dumb like all of Cold Wars story.

While those were definitely the worst of Japanese atrocities, they were far from the only ones. The Bataan Death March killed off a whole bunch of PoW's, and they were notorious for bayoneting non-combatants, including the wounded in field hospitals, whenever they overran the front lines.

it's a general issue, most curriculums only focus on their home turf and then propaganda. being yuropoor meant mandatory bi-annual self-flagellation about ww2, hardly ever ww1, not a peep about russia or china. apparently that was meant for advanced classes towards the end, because fifth graders are supposedly able to deal with 6 gorillion but holodomor and nanking are way too bad at that age.

yes and no, allies never really cared what happened in china (same for europe really, as much as history wants to paint it that way. it's like saying american civil war happened "to end slavery").
bigger problem was the empire back then was zealous as fuck. the nukes were basically best bang for buck to end the war for good, more or less.
you also have to remember some parts of asia hate each other to a point it would make the KKK blush, going a long way back. none of that "haha niggers" shit, nothing below ethical cleansing and genocide will do. think balkans on a larger scale.

Yeah I definitely didn't doubt those were the only ones. I seem to run across about 10 new ones a year minimum from around the world. Don't think I'll learn about every atrocity committed from the 1930's/40's alone in my lifetime.

Muh nasi's n oppressed jooze have become such low hanging fruit at this point. Hardly the worst atrocity to ever happen. I do wonder how many textbook's have a -stein or a -berg at the end of the author's names and how many of God's Chosen have played a role in cultivating yesteryears and todays school curriculum.

And I had an idea that was the reasoning, that Japan's unyielding nature could only be met with and utterly destroyed by the most extreme of measures. At least they learned their lesson. All's well that ends well.

Holy fucking shit this is an actual thing?! My mom used to call my dad's (Japanese) family trips walking around a park a baton death march. I had always assumed she was talking about a marching band leader with a baton not a fucking POW march.

It's a rather controversial subject, but Japan has actually made multiple apologies for their actions during WWII. Heck, the NHK, one of Japan's leading broadcast stations, even did a documentary at one point covering their war crimes.

All things considered, while they do need to at least be made more aware of what they did during that time, dwelling on it is not gonna do anything helpful. At this point, I doubt China and South Korea are even gonna accept any form of apology, as the hate they have is far too strong. And given how Germany has turned out with their constant self-flagellation over their past, maybe Japan has had the right idea the whole time (but still, they do need to better educate their children on how messed up their actions in WWII were).

There's really no point in the countries apologizing to each other.

Two wongs can't make a right.

They STILL haven't named the factions in multiplayer??!! Have fun playing a WW2 game where you're playing "MY TEAM" against "ENEMY TEAM."
