Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

Disagree, MW2019 discouraged the run-and-gun mentality of COD by encouraging camping. Piccadilly being a prime example. The hidden SBMM measures in all playlists does not help to solve this issue. '

That's not to say MW2019 didn't do anything right. The maps are aesthetically pleasing and full of character. They are just improperly built. The free maps approach was long overdue.
I honestly enjoyed the camoer friendly feel it made it more like combat you gotta survive vs I can swing faster because my settings are loose.

Does that mean Cold War will be supported longer than expected to make up for those sales?
According to a few leaker friends of mine (take this with a gigantic grain of salt) due to Vanguard's poor sales.
They're just gonna make more content for CW.
Ravenov Operator, WMD and Jungle are a few of the new content coming.
So we might see Zombie Chronicles 2 as a thing for CW hopefully.
Would be nice to poop on panzers in origin as Ghostface while smoking blunts

It's amazing how for the better part of a year people were bitching that they stuck with Verdansk into Cold War, and now we're not even 3 months(?) into the new map and people are wanting to go back to Verdansk.

They fucked it up that bad, huh?
they didn't change the map enough for cold war to really matter, and what they did change didn't really matter. outside of making everywhere look soviet 80s the map remained the same but without any major changes. they just took out the annoying stuff like the bunkers with a guaranteed juggernaut.

How is this bad when people are now asking to go back to Verdansk, though?

i'm not saying its bad so much as the massive changes people got hyped on and expected didn't really happen. To put it in perspective, every halloween they make the entire map take place at night and have some special ghoul theme. zombies, ghosts, vampires, etc. despite that being a seasonal thing that lasts less than a month, and yet that got more work put into it then the cold war map.

it just was underwhelming, Honestly a Patriot War-era Verdansk could have been cool if they did it well, the problem is they probably couldn't.

I wouldn't mind, I had more fun playing CW than MW2019. I wish the devs would give players access to every past battle pass so they could unlock everything they missed or didn't have the time to complete them.

Yeah, I got totally burned out by the last season of Cold War and didn't finish the pass which kind of sucks.

I would have had more fun with Cold War if the cross game integration didn't fuck up and wipe out everything I had earned in CW and MW2019

You know, when Modern Warfare 2019 game out, many decried it for how it portrayed the Russian villains, saying that it was too over-the-top, that they'd never do the atrocities shown, and it was a way for the writers to deflect blame from the U.S. over to Russia (like naming a mission the Highway Of Death and making it a Russian war crime, when it in fact was the Americans that did it in real life.)

Wonder what some of them are thinking now, given current events.

i learned game journalists were fags when the first one came out precisely because how many whined about being able to shoot dunecoons when the vast majority of missions are about the allies killing russians, it gets even worse in MW2 (where yahteez, Sterling, and other faggots still whined about islamaphobia) where outside of literally the first mission you are exclusively killing russians, until the last handful of missions where you take on the americans as well. MW3 is all russian killing IIRC.

Honestly MW trilogy was always about taking down those crazy russians, with crazy war hawks in the US government being a close 2nd.

So MW2019 was just following the original pretty accurately.

despite what the faggy journalists have said COD has always been fairly based about stuff in its single player, statistically the US military is the enemy more than muslims or cartels or zombies.

the russians were just acceptable targets. and given their current actions still are.

The controversy over the Highway of Death mission never made sense to me. In game, it was one of the ways Russia had subjugated the civilian population (indeed, I never saw anything resembling the things the Iraqi army had in the Gulf War), while the real life event was an action committed against a retreating army with valuable equipment (retreating is not the same as surrendering, no matter how much "journalists" insists on it). Outside of sharing the same name and taking place in the Middle East, the two have nothing in common, so the idea that Infinity Ward was trying to pin an American "war crime" on Russia is ignorant.

Should Russia deploy nerve gas against the Ukrainians, it would be another thing the game accidently predicted.

I believe the controversy regarding Russia being the antagonists in MW2019 was exaggerated by Russian nationalists. You could argue of why Russia would attack a Middle Eastern country or the forced writing with the reboot but that's it.

I felt MW2019 tried too hard to be a movie and took itself too seriously. Clean House was a highlight, that's all I could think of.

It wasn't Russia itself with the MW trilogy. It was ultranationalists. Russia got itself into the war because of the events of No Russian. I'd say CoD4 focused more on Zahaev with the Middle East.

Maybe I was just weird, but I always thought the huge switch to Russia for MW2 and 3 came a bit too quickly and was just an excuse to have their own World War III.

Surprise, you are not the only one to have thought of that .

I miss when games didn't take itself too seriously and copied film. That's the issue, 2015 and above became the starting point where games started to emulate their child-diddling compatriots in the film industry. MW2019 is no exception.

Vanguards sound is fucked and its 100% on purpose at this point becasue you cannot hear fucking foot steps its annoying.
That's every cod game isn't it? You maybe get footsteps as quiet as a mouse fart and then perks to undermine that like dead silence so the console couch players can get free kills without using a headset.

If you were a Russian nationalist why would you even hate Call of Duty?

The old Modern Warfare trilogy had Russia launch a massive invasion of not just the United States but also all of Europe on a massive scale and were successful somewhat too. These games provided better Russian propaganda than Russia who are currently struggling to invade someone next to them.

MW2019 had extremely loud foot steps that got a lot of people angry. A lot of vanguard’s changes over MW2019 was the stuff infinity wars never bent the knee to change.

Sledgehammer always wants to please so they did it to make some people happy.

Huh? Every single Omaha Beach mission is a copy of the opening of Saving Private Ryan, and did you forget where you become Vasily Zaitsev in that one CoD, complete with starting off with a stripper clip of ammo and then graduating to a badass sniper?

I miss when video games tried to recreate everyone's favorite cheesy action sequences, instead of pretending their goal is to deliver deep experiences. Maybe if you're as shallow as a modern game dev they're deep...

Three things I give CoD Ghosts credit for: its map aesthetics, announcer voice packs and its leveling system.

Every map in Ghosts tells a story. Right down to its locale, scenery and props. I admire that. Ghosts even had two announcer voice packs: Snoop Dogg and R. Lee Ermey. I wish I bought the Snoop Dogg pack; his lines bring life to an otherwise barren, bleak CoD.

The levelling system rewards you with points to buy weapons and perks instead of simple grinding. Revamping the Pick 10 system from Black Ops II allowed you to be more "free" with your loadouts. Ghosts DID encourage assault rifles over other classes, especially SMGs.
