Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

I guess I had better experiences or I don't remember those times.

Worst weapon to use in CoD2/WaW, the Type 100. The magazine on the right would obstruct your view while ADS.
Type 100 wasn't in COD2, you're thinking of Sten in older CODs
Ironically, Sten was going to reappear in WaW as well, back when the game was going to have an SAS campaign in Holland

It's season 1 time in a Call of Duty game, and you know what that means: EVERYTHING IS BROKEN!
Highlights:
*Update might break and you have to delete the entire thing and start over(even worse on consoles where you have to re-download entire COD HQ app)
*Update might randomly reset you to rank 1 with no unlocks(AGAIN)
*Resets your classes and blueprints
*"Script Bundle Not Defined"
*New map called "Meat"(what a fucking horrible name), looks very generic
*More people are noticing the bot problem. OG in the community, 402Thunder, noticed that there is a strange amount of level 55 players for how dead the game is(there are achievements that track who reached it, they don't dip into double digits % on any platform), which some suggest portion of which might be bots. No concrete data on that yet.

According to Steam, only 2.7% have reached rank 55.
As for the bots, I don't know. Most of the people I saw in MWIII last week-end had reached max level (I did too Sunday and I'm not a TTV sweat).

Today was the first day the game crashed on me. Crashed once after I completed a game of Zombies and once as soon as the final 15 minutes hit causing me to lose all my shit.

TBF though, I hadn't updated my drivers.

Caved in and grabbed a copy of MW III (MW23) and in all honesty I'm enjoying the game. I got hit with the class and variant reset bug mentioned above but it wasn't that bad and didn't bother me too much. I also crashed mid zombies match and lost all my shit, which was infuriating, but I eventually got over it. Gameplay reminds me more of MW19 and is more fast paced compared to MW22 and the absolute clusterfuck that game was. Zombies is surprisingly fun for what it is, I still would've taken round based maps over DMZombies, but it's not absolute doom and gloom.

One thing that's getting on my nerves though is the voice acting for the Navy Seals announcer, I don't want to jump to conclusions but it sounds like AI shit with how he says some things. It could just be garbage voice direction or whatever and I don't have the ear for noticing this type of shit usually, I can just be hallucinating.

I've been watching some of the videos discussing the AI bots and how Sledgehammer can't even ask questions about the SBMM and its made me change my mind on something. I was fine with the idea of Microsoft acquiring Activision because my thoughts were that CoD can't get worse than this and if it did, Microsoft will start shuttering studios like it did after the Xbox 360 and alternatives can be delivered to market to fill the niche.

However, I now want the acquisition to fall through. Kotick, the Activision executives, and board of directors don't deserve the buyout. CoD today is the result of their influence to drive share price because they absolutely want a best selling game every year to sell stocks to investors. Now that the cattle aren't consuming product and are baying in protest, they lost good will and market satisfaction. Their IP isn't as valuable anymore because of what they pushed to market over the years out of greed. I want them to live with this and share EA's fate. A company full of IP's but no direction, drive, or consumer interest to take them to market as they desperately try to find a buyer for their tanking company. It's the future Activision deserves.

So, this is a bit dumb, but I found this while looking at some CoD stuff, figured you guys might at least get a chuckle: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/E0xwNwuhNgo

Also... there's a few CoD games on sale in the PS5 store for the holidays: Modern Warfare Remastered and Advanced Warfare, both for $20. Was curious, you guys think that either of them are worth picking up these days? I remember grabbing AW back on PS3 - even getting all of the DLC for it - and it was alright, but is it even worth getting now? What about MW Remastered?

I'd pick MWR over Advanced Warfare. Much better storytelling than the nu-MW trilogy. It'd be nice to play to see how CoD became the juggernaut it is today. Beware: MWR has weapons locked behind supply drops only obtainable through purchasable currency. Gameplay may be a bit antiqued compared to newer entries, don't let it deter you from a good single player and decent remaster.

Personally, I would go with MWR. It basically is the same game as COD4, but with better graphics and some additional content. The added weapons that weren't in the original are locked behind supply drops, but the original guns are pretty much left untouched in terms of balance and I don't recall the supply drop guns being overpowered.

The only one I'd consider being OP was the BOS14 assault rifle. The first five rounds in the mag would deal extra damage and I'm pretty sure it stacked with Stopping Power so you can get some retardedly fast kills if you reloaded often, which means the gun also synergized well with Sleight of Hand. Everything else was alright at best and paled in comparison to the M16 with Red Dot + Stopping Power.

Recently, it has been exposed by a game dev that there is a shadowban whitelist: VIPs like developers, content creators or MLG players will never get banned, no matter what, even if caught cheating. This double standard is to be expected, but there has been an even more disturbing find regarding the bots: Apparently they can pretend to be actual, living players, copying their aesthetics and name but NOT their levels. This means that you might see BillyGoat57 with a max 55 rank, running around blindly like he does and getting his ass kicked, but then you see him with, say, level 35 and he is straight up aimbotting like in the videos I've already linked...because it's not the real BillyGoat57, it's a bot that hijacked his name and identity but not his behavior. It gets weirder when you consider many people have been having issues even connecting to the game, their Activision Accounts would not let them log on. There is no proof of this as of now, but some speculate that players who are effected by this issue might have bot skinwalkers running about, trying to make the game seem less like a ghost town by trying to convince dumb/new players that the game still isn't abandoned.

Really weird predicament this franchise landed itself into, with the bot stuff and the disgusting manipulative SBMM algorithm, it's almost like reading a creepypast about your favorite game: When you read up on it, things make SENSE because you are familiar with how it works, but then weird stuff starts happening that never should, and it's just believable that you might buy it happening in the game...except this is all happening right now, and I am not even getting into the conspiracy on how Infinity Ward has hijacked MWIII from Sledgehammer and is making gameplay and balancing decision calls on how to change MWIII from being a fast paced shooter to being a carbon clone of MWII and MW2019 slower paced "tactical" gameplay that some fans hate

Is there any safe way to play the older games on PC anymore? I'm not super keen on having my computer formatted by scriptkiddies.

So I finally got around to playing MWIII's campaign

And...it's not awful? The story is stupid as shit and feels at odds in relation to 2019 from what I recall, but it's CoD so who cares?

The actual "free combat" missions aren't nearly a copy/paste of Warzone maps as reviewers bitched about. I actually like how you can find weapon caches to unlock weaponsf for loadout selection on replays.

As for the length, it doesn't feel any shorter than the last game. I mean, I complained that MWII felt short, but everyone made it sound like MWIII would be even shorter than it and it doesn't feel like it.

I'm almost wondering if faggot journalists were overstating how awful this campaign was because Microsoft was purchasing Activision or something.

It feels absolutely typical of modern Call of Duty so I don't understand why they would have suddenly hated it so much compared to previous years.

I sort of feel the same way. CoD campaigns have a reputation of being linear set piece museums, so when they open up the levels to allow a little more freedom and less explosive scenes, it comes off as dull. I do appreciate that they tried something new. People trying to compare it to the OG trilogy are setting themselves up for disappointment.

I also feel like a good amount of reviewers are also setting the difficulty to Regular and going loud through all of the missions, which is literally running through a field shooting bots who barely shoot back. So fun. There’s some entertainment value to be gained from turning up the difficulty and going stealth through all of the missions.

Writing is still Marvel-tier bullshit though. Shame.

I don't even know if I'd say that.

It just feels like almost nothing gels together or is coherent. As someone who could piece together the Metal Gear Solid narrative I like to think I'm not a complete retard, but there is just so much shit in this game that's flying over my head.

What *is* the fucking deal with Makarov? Why does he give such a shit about Urzikstan? Why is he committing terror attacks against Verdansk before Urzikstan is even liberated?
