Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

This is a jab at the CoD "community" that loves to shit on CoD3 and the big maps in WaW and CoD4 (and any subsequent CoD) because you couldn't run up double digit kills 4.8 seconds after starting the game.
What they should know is that the maps and gameplay loop in CoD3 were designed for larger scale battles. Of course, you cannot account for consistent player population TO have full lobbies for maximum enjoyment.

One map that stands out to me in CoD3 was that map with the broken bridge and underground, narrow passageway below its structure. To CoD3's credits, the maps feel lived in, not arbitrary setpieces that simulate whatever setting they're going for.

Now that I think about it, Titanfall 2 suffered a similar fate because of external circumstances. It released smack dab between Battlefield 1 and Infinite Warfare, two FPS juggernauts with devoted audiences during the holiday season. Thing is, Activision did not help with Infinite Warfare's marketing. It's not even that people did not like futuristic shooters, it's that it did not fit with CoD's twitch formula. Even if CoD does not perform "well," it still sells like hotcakes.
respawn chose that date themselves, knowing full fucking well both battlefield and COD always release in the fall (to capture that sweet christmas market).
I assume the idea was to 1-2 punch COD with both battlefield 1 as the historical option and tf2 as the scifi one.

the biggest irony however is that blops 3 took quite a bit of inspiration from TF1, which IW "refined" (like the wall-running) after everyone back then called TF1 "cod with mechs"...

I never liked that comparison. There was more versatility with TF1's parkour than IW's scripted wall-running. Good luck playing Titanfall 1. It's dead in every way possible. I'd say "comatose" would be a proper term. If you haven't bought it, it's been pulled from all storefronts. Servers are still "up" as of now, but nobody is playing.

Back to CoD, I'm interested in the rumored Black Ops: Gulf War title. I heard it's a direct sequel to Black Ops 2. How will it tie into Black Ops III, IV and the nu-MW reboots?

As much as I love the Gulf War, it was mostly an armored conflict, no? There was some infantry fighting, but enough for a CoD game?

Even the War on Terror in the 2000s seemed like a better idea for a CoD game than the Gulf War

Nu-MW has kind of tried to do that (at least the modern incarnation of the war on terror), fairly unsuccessfully.

Besides, Black Ops has always been set in various cold wars (USSR vs NATO, SDC vs NATO, NRC vs US), followed a bunch of proxy conflicts, with the plot touching on various conspiracies. The Gulf War doesn't really have any of that. You COULD make something like that from the War on Terror, but you'd need to be smarter and more nuanced than modern CoD is. They also kind of trapped themselves by trying to make Black Ops cannon with Modern Warfare.

I felt that the time periods with Black Ops were just window dressing to further the characters' motivations. Example: one level in Black Ops takes place in Vietnam during the flashback missions. Another sequence of levels take place during the tail end of WWII to establish Nova Gas and Mason's turn to insanity after said events. I'm sure it could be possible to do that same magic for the Gulf War. At least, make it more gritty than Black Ops II.

Does anyone know where to get cheap cd keys for the older cod games? I just wanna pick up WaW and BO1 without paying the retarded predatory $40+ they still charge in steam for the old games. cdkeys and g2a seemingly no longer have suspiciously cheap keys unless you pick up a locked down russian key lol.

Speaking of which, I bought Black Ops II's season pass on sale for $15. Between CoD and Nintendo games, they RARELY go down in price. Meanwhile, a used copy of MW2019 can go for $5 at GameStop. $10 max. How?

I wonder how much MW 2019 is worth in a thrift store like Goodwill, Savers or Salvation Army?

I like Laswell. I think she was a decent introduction, as for the lesbian, yeah. I'd say 90% of women in the military are lesbians.

I really don't see why Laswell shouldn't be an operator.

Or, to put it another way, they already made me accept the 2021 BMW Series 530i with optional heated seating in Middle Earth, so, sure, can't really object to the elderly women fighters.
Laswell leaked as a playable operator through a CoD Threads post. Looks like Activision finally processed my request.

I'm not paying $20 for her though, that's a ripoff. Were operators ever unlockable?

That's still active?
Yeah, sure.

I’ve just started playing it again after a long time, and dig the new map and play modes.

My main criticism is that the weapons and attachments are hella confusing with dozens of ARs/battle rifles and dozens of sights.

Which leads to everyone using the same swarm/TAQ combo.

Is MW3 really worth getting, in you guys' opinion? Friend of mine was trying to convince me to grab it so we could play Zombies together; I admit, was a bit hesitant about grabbing the game solely for Zombies, so how are the other modes? I know the Campaign is kinda shit, but what about Multiplayer?
