Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

@The Ugly One Yeah, that's what I was referring to when it came to WaW's inaccuracies; it's mostly just minor details that someone missed. Still a damn good game, though; far more accurate and respectful than Vanguard could ever have been.

@30+GameOvers Can confirm; picked up MWIII again as part of a Black Friday sale, couldn't even play the damn game without downloading a bunch of crap from BO6... which I didn't even have.

Vorkuta was, in fact, in the BO6 campaign; it was one of the later levels. Basically, you had to go infiltrate the prison to get some info on the villain's bioweapon; it's basically just an excuse for nostalgia bait, really.

I'm still watching BT videos right now, but I just want to share a few since I haven't seen anyone talk about this stuff here:
Highlights include: Possible AI generated content(poorly made at that), taking away features of MWII and MWIII with launch of BO6, MW3 straight up not working for some people anymore at launch(What a coincidence, you can still buy BO6!), paying to get good audio(lol), and maps also possibly being generated by AI. Hell, there is another video which covers rumors of MWIII maps being cut from that game to release it sometime in BO6's life cycle, which would also explain why there were so few new 6 v 6 maps by the end. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised, this game looks even more disgusting than MW6 aka MWIII and Vanguard, and I bet the next COD is going to be even worse.
I'm sure there is more but I'm still catching up. Now BT is blowing his vocal chords over maps being extremely tiny, 3 lane bullshit for Shipment zoomers with brain rot, but we've seen that as far back as the leaks. SBMM being even worse than before and exciting new things being linked to the patented Activision algorithm isn't a surprise either.
Ironic that they took this fucking long to introduce shootdodging, none of these maps look designed for it in the slightest. Mind you, Max Payne 3 had this problem as well, but at least that game let you get some bullet time as well to make it more viable.
Also, can anyone explain to my why the fuck Vorkuta is here, aside from memberberries? This game takes place in the 90s, unless there is yet another flashback section in single player, Vorkuta shouldn't even be here, let alone looking like it did in BO1(which took place in the 60s).
Why do you even bother watching this

So, I learned I put in 180 hours into Black Ops 6. Wow, time flies. I love how "being unemployed" equates to no lifing the damn game.

I remember when the CoD series was notable primarily for not being about action movie-style larger-than-life heroes and villains, and instead making you feel like you were just some guy taking part in events much larger than you. How the turns have tabled
Raycverick's video on CoD mentioned that. It started with MW2 and the introduction of Makarov is what set the fires of that trend.

Which is complete horseshit. MW1 had Al-Asad as a straight up movie villain POV executing you at the start of the game to set him up as the villain in the first half of the game while badass good guys like Price and Gaz are the first characters you meet. The first thing you hear is them talking about 15k nukes being at stake in a Russian civil conflict and Price going "just another day at the office" like the coolest mofo ever.

That's before you get to Greggs, the rapper nigger soldier, and the bait and switch true villain Zakhaev. MW2 didn't start any of this.

It actually struck me by how straightforward WaW was coming from Black Ops. You were just a marine among many fighting through hordes of Japs. No crazy story or anything. The most it had was Reznov acting your personal hype-man.

I don't mind the action-movie plots. Black Ops is amazing. If I had to guess though, the problem is that the modern games seem to make the main plot deviate more from the war it covers. BO1 had missions where you were in the thick of the Vietnam War, fighting alongside faceless grunts. MW had missions where you were just a soldier in the squad during the invasion setpieces. BO6, by contrast, doesn't really have that. Sure, it's set during the Gulf War, but you never really participate in it. An older CoD campaign would have had you fight in 73 Eastings or something.

It comes down to the difference between a "action war movie" and an action movie set during a war.

So, MWII requires an install, but you still have to PURCHASE IT despite my Game Pass subscription. Okay, let me try to install MWIII's multiplayer. 86 GBs. It's installed on my console; nope, I have to install it AGAIN. This launcher is literal cancer.

So, I'm playing MWIII multiplayer for the first time. Everything involving the UI is organized into vertical boxes.

MW2/3's UI used to look like THIS:

Today's UI is horrible to say the least. That's not even the worst of it.

I've encountered Little Red Riding Hood, Jason Voorhess, a wolf, psychedelic, moving weapon camos, some gold plated superhero within FIVE matches. What is even going ON?

Madness, simply enough. The game in general, as well as the franchise as a whole, has basically devolved into trying to appeal to the Fortnite crowd while leaving the long-time CoD fans in the dust. So, typical corpo shit.

I'm re-downloading Ghosts on the PS4 right now; I will say, despite the game being pretty much dead, there's something magical about hopping on to one of the older CoDs and just running a private match or something with whatever guns/maps you can think of. Either that, or doing some work in Extinction; never did get very many teeth/upgrades beforehand, and I'd also like to try and finish Mayday, Awakening, and Exodus sometime. Also, should probably try and finish the Campaign; beat it on PS3 back when the game first came out, but I never did finish it on PS4/5. Should go for the intel too, maybe some trophies.

While I'm in a nostalgic mood, I want to ask; what's everyone's favorite map, from whatever CoD you can think of? I'm trying to decide myself.

That's a perfect word to describe the hour experience I had with MWIII. Madness. Bunny hopping despite the movement feeling heavier than BO6, cumbersome menu navigation to where creating a loadout is a maze itself, outlandish cosmetics that distract from the supposed tactical art direction, horrible spawns and map pacing.

I've never felt more dumbfounded or frustrated from a game like MWIII gave me. Shame, shooting is actually great.

Obviously, it's really hard to choose just one. I'll probably go with Airfield from World at War. It's a nice, big map, but with open areas and long sightlines so you're not constantly hunting for other players. You've got some foliage, some verticality, and some closer-quarters areas. One thing I liked about larger maps from this area is there were zones you could control with CQ weapons, although the open areas were turkey shoots.

Scrapyard and Afghan from MW2 comes to mind. Fighting in the desert as OpFor is a great experience. The airplane in the middle of Scrapyard allows for great engagements or covering fire from either building.

Seelow from World at War isn't a bad map itself; the limitations from the WaW engine makes sniper engagements difficult because there's no glint. Vehicles offset the large map space.

Okay, so to unlock stuff in MWIII, you have to complete daily challenges, then select the item you want to unlock? More than that, you don't even unlock the whole weapon, just PARTS for a weapon? There's no perks in MWIII, it's "gear" like in a loot based RPG. Who taught that was a good idea?
