Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

I got BO6 via gamepass since my girlfriend really wanted to try the multiplayer & thought I might as well try some zombies (solo) to see what's up since I haven't properly played zombies(or any CoD really for that matter) since BO3(pretty much only custom maps).

What the fuck happened to zombies between then and now?
I've played the first map for a few matches, about half an hour each but even before then the cluttered as fuck menus pissed me off with the amount of shit there is to navigate and everything.

Then I got into the matches.
The box feels kinda pointless to hit over and over since there's an abundance of very usable weapons everywhere, armor is a thing, the armory is a thing, zombies drop grenades of all types, max ammo doesn't refill your grenades you have to craft them now, PaP feels pretty generic and there's an armor system now?

Also why the fuck is the regular round-to-round gameplay so piss easy but when you try and extract it's a difficulty spike and a half? I haven't extracted successfully in any of the half dozen matches I've played because while the big meanie boss zombies aren't a big deal on their own when the game throws half a dozen at you at once it does add up.

The map is pretty nice to play but other than that it just feels like they ported half of warzone's mechanics over and called it a day. Wasn't the marketing like "Round based zombies is back!"? Because it's really not. I mean maybe in comparison to the last few years but if so then what the fuck kind of hellscape did I even miss? Is this my "I am out of touch" moment or is it genuinely just bad?

Zombies story ended in Black Ops 4, heavily recommend it if you're a fan. Then Cold War happened and the story got rebooted for the "modern audiences" ie the gameplay is piss easy and made to accommodate multiplayer/warzone babies trying to level up their guns. Even the "easter eggs" are borderline telegraphed to you now.
So if you're wondering "what happened", Cold War casualized zombies and Vanguard(worst COD zombies experience ever made) killed off the hardcore fanbase. No joke, you had OG content creators and players just straight up abandoning zombies left and right, that's how bad it was.

TIL that CoD3's campaign takes place during the Falaise pocket engagement where the Allies liberate France after the Battle of Normandy. That explains the French campaign.

Aim assist in CoD3 is too strong; it's harder to aim AWAY from an enemy when you're around their hitbox, especially when you're ADS. Field of view is way too close where the reload animations obstruct your view. It's actually more effective to fire from the hip.

I think I lost interest about the time the first Modern Warfare remake came out. Ignored Modern Warfare II and III, briefly jumped into Cold War, and then I noped out completely when they started trying to imitate Fortnite with all these bullshit character skins. This is NOT why I played COD back in the day.

What was everyone's favorite character in Zombies? Mine was Richtoffen.

"The Illuminati will be PLEASED with this!" Absolute glorious classic cheese.
OG crew(all of them), Victus and the Shadows of Evil crew. The Mob of the Dead gangsters were overrated, Primis just didn't have the same synergy(altho I do love their interactions with Ultimis, should have had more of that). Can't say much about the Chaos crew since their story is unfinished, altho I liked the Brigadier General and the Yankee from Dead of the Night. Exo Zombies and Infinite Warfare Zombies crew were also pretty cool.
Oh, and I absolutely love the Five crew. The reason why I bought Black Ops to begin with was because I learned from Hard News(Screwattack) that you could play as JFK and Castro shooting zombies in the Pentagon. I was more of a COD4 purist at the time and thought that Zombies, MW2's more cinematic direction and now BO continuing that trend were the dumbest shit ever, but Five was the right kind of stupid and that made me buy BO. Best decision I made in that gaming generation, as it led to me trying out MW2 and WaW to see what I've been missing, and I bought every COD game since until WW2 came around with it's black female nazis and censored swastikas.

I would have to say Jessica Rose from Shadows of Evil (BO3). If you know my MO, you'd know why.

Isn't he gay based on his suspect sounding soundbites?

Thematically speaking, my favorite crew would have to be the four prisoners from Mob of the Dead. Very well-written with their dialogues providing context and snippets of the Hell they placed themselves in.

Wouldn't be surprised. "Closested gay sissy Nazi" is a common trope in less-serious Weird War II fiction. Could just be extremely campy and theatrical though, like Stroheim from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Nazi superscience is a helluva drug.

I'd say that Treyarch's original inspiration for Nazi Zombies would be a campy, horror tower defense horde mode, where Der Riese onward allowed them to take that universe into their own.

Doubt it, remember that everything he did in Waw-BO was to get inside a little girl. Literally, as in swap souls with her and be in her body, that includes traveling thru time and getting various artifacts, not to mention all the hoops he had to jump thru and zombies he had to kill and having to wrangle 3 violent retards all at the same time. If he was closeted, he would just screw all that and try to hate-fuck Maxis instead of going after his daughter.

That wonder weapon sniper from Call of the Dead, the Scavenger? It uses the same reload animation as the Intervention from MW2. Thank goodness for PhD Flopper on the map.

Stuhlinger, he always had the funniest quotes imo.
Interesting thing about Victis characaters is that they are way different in Green Run than they would later end up becoming. I am guessing they had a rough draft of what they were going to be originally, but by the time Die Rise/Buried came out, they changed the characters into what we know today, plus they have more synergy than they did before.

For example, the way the characters felt in Green Run is that they had templates and played up to their stereotypes, for example Misty was a tough farm girl, Marlton was a stereotypical nerd, Rossman was a wise cracking hobo and Stuhlinger was a crazed conspiracy theorist(even tho his model is internally named "reporter", which means he was likely meant to be someone else even earlier on). I would kill for those early BO2 zombies builds to see what they were cooking.

Stuhlinger was apparently suppose to be a time traveling CIA agent?
I remember there be some sort of interview with the VA or something like that and he said something along those lines.

That would be interesting. In the final game, he ended up being a basement dwelling /x/ user with low IQ that ended up being one of the more important players in Richtofen's scheme by complete accident. That would also explain his relationship with Russman, since the latter is a former Broken Arrow agent.

I feel they're vastly improved in Tag Der Toten compared to the original green run, run.
I will die on the hill that IW Zombies does Victis' "stereotype survivors" way better and unique in each map.

By the time Tag rolled around, I think the writers got their personalities and synergies done pretty well. It helps that this is canonically the last map in the Aether timeline, so it feels like a bookend of sorts.
Shame that Misty had some MASSIVE budget cuts. Seriously, she looks like a boy. Imagine being a teen and getting stiffies playing BO2 zombies, then almost a decade later this is what they do to your waifu
Shameful, even as far back as BO3 the girl in Shadows had big knockers.

I think the redesign is fine, my favourite black ops design has always been either safehouse one Adler or Vacation Hudson.
