Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

The latest Italian one Isonzo is less squad oriented and there's a set number specialist per team instead of based on squads. It also has building cover with engineers and static weapons like machineguns and some howitzers/mortars. In Isonzo the officer is critical and way more call-in focused than the prior.
That was YOU who recommended WWI: Isonzo. It's definitely not Call of Duty. It's not Battlefield either.

There's no automatics, no aim assist, no cosmetics, no revives, no advanced movement. I'm surprised the marksman class has no glint or bullet drip. Just point and shoot. I'm surprisingly competent at long range sniping and rushing with a bayonet.

It reminds me of how I started the Battlefield franchise for the first time. It takes some getting used to as I feel you die very quickly. It's a nice change of pace from CoD and Battlefield.

They are simple and fun, always enjoyed them. There are automatics for assault exclusively or positions engineers can construct otherwise yes, you are mostly stuck with bolt-action rifles and semi-auto hand guns. On the maps with the Prussians you can get pistol carbines which are semi-auto smgs iirc Engineer can unlock them eventually.

Isonzo has your unlocks tied to the local files of the game kinda like how WaW did, so I reccomend backing it up with steam cloud. With the prior titles they give you a shit ton of unlocks off the bat so even when you lose a save it's inconsequential save for your stats.

Yeah it's really not like CoD save for maybe running back to early days. I just was using it as the first example that came to mind for bots being good for fps multiplayer games, there's a lot of great ones out there that are pretty well dead that lack them.

The only gun I have so far is a slow-firing rifle for ALL classes. I'm still getting used to everything. I want to learn how to make/use mortars. That game is 13-20 GB on your hard drive. And there's bots as well.

I was going to say no secondaries, but I found out you CAN unlock revolvers for the marksman. It's surprisingly easier to snipe if you get a good vantage point or hold a choke point. This one snow map, I was popping people from them running uphill. That was satisfying. Is there SBMM in these WWI games?

Lmao no you can just join via server browser. It dumps you in whatever's closest with quick match. You can also host a server yourself from the server browser. If you really wanted you can host a server that's just you and bots to grind, it'd be boring though and unless you're an officer you probably can't effect the battle much yourself.

So, theoretically speaking, you could grind the whole game from just bot matches? At least the option is there.

Since this is the CoD thread, how's Black Ops 6 doing with the Versandak release? Just THINKING about Black Ops 6 puts me in a mood.

Nobody cares about Black Ops 6 and nobody wants to talk about it.
As for Verdansk, it got DDoSed by hackers and nobody could play, not even sign in. Even if you could sign in, there is plenty of cheaters ruining lobbies, worse yet console players can opt out of playing against PC due to how bad the hacker issue is...except that modders already found a way around it and you have PC cheaters running wild in console only ranked playlists, while allienating legit PC players in a game that is already bleeding players(note that these days PC makes up most of COD players). If this was supposed to be some big comeback, it failed miserably and there is absolutely nothing else coming down in the pipeline.

And since it's COD, with a new release every year, why bother fixing the security holes? A new one comes out in six months anyway on a code base that's different enough to have a whole new set of bugs and vulnerabilities. The 360-era CODs were all hacked to shit within 2 years after release, and they didn't care.

Black Ops II being the worse offender because of theatre mode infections. Not even just God mode, but booters, derankers, class freezes. It's not even worth it to tackle multiplayer. Zombies may be a safer bet.

Not all of them, BO2 survived until 2015(3 years after release) and it took longer for the 360 copies of Ghosts and AW to be hacked too. In fact, people would till be playing BO2 on the consoles if it wasn't for the hackers, I know I played a few matches in 2020 or so and I could still find decent matches, even so I had to quit after enough hackers aimbotted me from behind a wall. There is just no point in playing.

I cannot speak for Ghosts, but from this video, AW was hacked within a week of launch on 360.

There's still modded lobbies for WaW, but I think you'd have to find somebody to host. As long as they're not in public matchmaking (I still hop on for multiplayer/zombies), I could care less.

I'm one of the top players on the 360 leaderboards and only stopped playing when the population left the servers. I have never seen one hacker between 2014 and 2015, same with Ghosts where I only seen a hacked profile when I went back to play it in 2019.

Was the population for Ghosts/AW large for 360/PS3 even a year after their lifespans? I'd figured the population would be further splintered because of the next-gen consoles and nostalgia for the older titles.

AW was competing with Titanfall at the time.

It's hard to tell since AW was the first COD game with the modern hardline SBMM algorithm, it was very hard to find matches even back in the day when there were plenty of players. There were less than on 8th gen consoles, obviously, but you could still find matches easily even right before release of BO3.
I actually prefer the 360 copy of the game to the next gen one, not only does it have all the content that the latter has(same maps, same single player, same weapons minus supply drop only variants) but there were some fun glitches that made the game better, like safe spots for Infection where you could easily grind/troll other players and beta version of the laser gun/OHM that the devs accidentally left in multiplayer and you could access during the match. The supply drop weapons ruined the experience for me, especially those that didn't belong in the setting(WW2 and modern era ones), same goes for BO3 but the last gen version is virtually unplayable and you had to deal with it.

Like this?

I cannot remember when I obtained Titanfall (I know I had Advanced Warfare for Christmas when it came out) but I quickly lost interest in Advanced Warfare because of Titanfall. Of course, I was going back and forth between 360 and XB1 at the time.

I consider Ghosts to be the start of CoD's decline until MW2019 revived interest in the series again. At the time, CoD could not keep my interest.

Ghosts was fine, so was AW. BO3 was obviously fine too. Real downfall came with IW and not because it was bad but because it was too similar to BO3 the year before, and a third exo game in a row. The real downfall came with WW2, arguably the very first modern nu-COD game with all the warning signs.
People don't look back fondly on Ghosts or AW because they were filtered, simple as that. I played these two just as much, if not more, than the older titles and I can tell you the meta was a bit more nuanced than simply running around with a gun or camping in a corner with a sniper rifle. You would be surprised how that little change in how you play filters out a large chunk of the population, same as MW2019 maps like Piccadilly or the cave map filtered them out because you needed strategy and teamwork to succeed there, not rush in blindly to get shot. Same with doors, which were put for that exact same reason, to punish retarded rushers.
95% when someone says a COD game is "bad", it's because they suck at it, no other reason needed.
