Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

apparently Raven is full on co-developing BO7, I don't think itll change much for the better from BO6 though
Advanced Warfare, just for the stupidity of Kevin Spacey going nuts and trying to take over the world.
the ending to that one was funny where you just drop Spacey into a burning pit of fire and before that he pleads for his life, every other Sledgehammer Campaign has sucked, especially Vanguard's

They reached their nadir with MW 2023, although I'm willing to cut them a bit of slack in that department as a lot of it was due to problems stemming from the executives rushing that title and turning what was supposed to just be an expansion into a full release.

At the very least, Infinity Ward is now getting extra time to make their next entry, so that's nice.

The writing could've been better with the plot, but I wouldn't call Ghosts bad. I guess because it launched after Black Ops II, people expected more. The upcoming console generation didn't help much either.
By the time of Ghosts, I was checked out of CoD, and the advertisements of the game didn't change that stance. They pushed the underwater and space stuff being amazing and I thought, "Why should I care? This doesn't fundamentally change anything, they'll just be stupid one-level moments that you'll never see or hear from again, like the other CoDs before it had." Surely enough, that's exactly what it turned out to be.

I also remember when it was announced, their main focus of media attention was that there's a dog with doohickeys all over it, and they pushed that it was going to be so important to the core experience, bla bla bla... So you go from the conventional arms and nukes that were most of the predecessors, to drones and robotics to....dog warfare? It was laughable, might as well make it about dinosaurs if you're going to make such a stretch.

Staying away from this one like most CoD titles, but.....if they knew what's good for them, it'd be the Terminator Judgment Day game people wish existed. No saving multiplayer though - endless off-theme collabs and costumes for the foreseeable future.

What do you know, the thing that never happens happened again
AI bots in multiplayer was supposedly a hoax until it wasn't, SBMM and other intrusive elements in multiplayer were a hoax until the literal patents for them were unveiled, skill based throttling, which has nothing to do with your actual internet connection, was a hoax until it wasn't and now, skill based damage was a hoax until it wasn't. That's what's it's called in the code btw, so it's official. And now, as I am watching the video, the zombies voice actors that were with the franchise for almost 20 years are leaving over some sort of AI scandal where Activision doesn't want to give them a protection clause in their contract. That's another thing, so much of BO6 has been confirmed to be AI generated, from the prestige icons to the map design itself but that was a hoax as well until Activision came out and admitted to it. Everything is a fucking conspiracy to these dum dums that still play this shitty fucking game, and by the time it happens, you can't even tell them "I told you so" since they're so fucking stupid they've forgotten about the whole thing already. That's the modern COD fanbase now, the only people who buy these games and buy shit from the in-game shop and are ready to do it all over again. This is why I couldn't give less of a fuck about BO7(BUDDY GIVE US ANOTHER NAME, WHAT IS THIS?! FINAL FANTASY?!), even with Tranzit 2.0. You can kiss my ass, I'm not going to be your white lab rat as you try and trick me with member berries for all I am worth, BO2 still works fine on my xbox.

You know, I've been reminded what this fanbase makes me think of recently, it reminds me of the televangelist boomer audience. Some people here may be too young for this, but back in the day(and they still exist), you would have scammers, grifters, come out on TV to scam old people out of their money by peddling the most bullshit you've ever heard coming out of their mouths, anything to get them to believe that they're buying the most wonderful thing they've never heard of or that their life will not be complete without their product. Thing is, these boomers fucking bought these things, books or coins or whatever the fuck these grifters sold it was the most random collection of things. This grifting actually worked due to how naive these boomers are and how little their money matters to them, so it's an easy payday if you have a silver tongue(or just beg like DSP, that works too if you know what to say).
This is what the modern COD audience reminds me of, these brainless fucking boomers that throw away their money at the grifting pieces of shit, every single year, and they don't just buy the game but all the stupid skins and blueprints as well. These grifters do this shit too where they tell you if you double your order they will throw in a little something extra and this is exactly that(these skins definitely cost enough that you're buying the game twice over, at the very least if not more). Thing is that a lot of these boomers wasting away watching TV are senile as fuck, where as we're dealing with young adults to middle aged players with COD(doubt kids play COD nowdays when Fortnite exists), so what's their fucking excuse? I guess more time to milk them from their money before they croak, but there is little to no difference between the two aside from that. Little wonder that Activision uses their players as guinea pigs and experiment on them, sometimes borderline hijacking their fucking PC to do god knows what with it(there is allegations that BO6 doesn't exist properly and uses a ton of resources without telling players this, which could be used to train their AI models for free and/or spy on the player's machines, probably both) when they're so oblivious that they will let Activision do this in the first place. I have not heard of any real company doing something like this, maybe Tencent or Nexon or those other Asian companies that make GAAS online titles do this all the time but I don't care since they don't make real video games, but imagine if EA or Ubisoft was caught doing the same shit as Activision does regularly to their audience. You would never fucking hear the end of it, not even their players are this fucking buck broken yet, but COD fanbase is another story altogether.

.if they knew what's good for them, it'd be the Terminator Judgment Day game people wish existed. No saving multiplayer though - endless off-theme collabs and costumes for the foreseeable future.
What are you talking about bro, Terminator FPS games existed for quite a while now
You really want modern day Treyarch or Infinity Ward or god forbid, Sledgehammer Games, to ruin yet another IP? Even if they wouldn't, Activision sure would!
BTW the guys who made that new Terminator game, the one that kind of looks like Fallout 4, they also made a kickass Robocop game
If you absolutely have to spend your hard earned money(or tard bucks) at memberberries, give it to this small Polish studio, instead of getting that Nicky Minaj or Snoop Dogg skin. This is how licensed games should look, Activision would only ruin it if they gave that project over to their slaves over in the COD mines.

This is about a month late, but; here's a video on the current state of MW23:

With all that "toxic" going on in the chat, it only take one person to press the ban button, then that guy would not be laughing anymore. Next COD will have AI automatic check for anything toxic, so enjoy being banned for whatever reason, lol..

The AI has been auto-banning not just "toxic speech" but even background noise it might detect as "hate speech" since at least MW2023. For example, a guy leaving his mic on and talking about a tranny(not a dickless man, he's talking about his car) got him timed out from all chat functions without an explanation. I believe this system was in use since MW2022 but I would have to check. Point is, everything you say and do IS recorded and analyzed by an AI if you play COD, it's in the EULA no doubt so there is nothing you can even do about it.

Somebody at a local game store told me that somebody WAS suspended for teabagging. If true, we can have passive aggressive emotes but spamming an animation is "toxic."

Good luck with all those hackers in public matchmaking.

I wasn't aware they also made a Terminator game, will have to check it out. I have Rogue City already and it's kickass.
I'm looking into more single player based games. Dealing with multiplayer BS is too stressful for me to keep track of.

War is very prevalent in the last 3 years in the modern world, yet the stupider and dumber CoD gets. The internet itself is a main battlefield in war now and apart from black ops 2 they barely do anything with it. There is so much material and satire to be made from the twitterfication of war footage but it's just been slopaganda since vanguard for years now...
Also, June 19th 2025... that's tomorrow.

Anyone else finds it ironic that tomorrow, LA will still be destroyed and on fire and it is indeed due to "mostly peaceful" astroturfed protestors just like in BO2? Of course, we don't have drones taking on the military, but that's just par for the course, everything being gayer and lamer in reality.

Well, let's see:
LA is on fire by mostly peaceful astroturfed protestors CHECK
Drones are used everywhere on the battlefield CHECK
Smart technology is everywhere CHECK
There is a massive hack going around CHECK
Cold war with China? CHECK
Flood in Pakistan as a war tears apart the entire region? THAT'S A CHECK
Now, we don't have Hillary Clinton as president, a USS Barrack Obama(thank fuck) and nobody remembers Skrillex anymore, let alone plays him in world renown nightclubs, but hey, not a bad prediction from 2012!
Kinda makes you forget that Activision is going to celebrate 2025 by raping BO2 to death for a few extra dollars, since the idea well has completely dried out. They tried rebooting Modern Warfare, it failed, they tried rebooting Black Ops, that failed, so now they will give us a futuristic game, probably with advanced movement, just to check if there is a single bit of this franchise they haven't ruined yet.
