Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

The modern warfare reboot was promising an interesting campaign too, but that wound up being another cartoonish "Russia bad, CIA good" narrative.
The CIA guy simping for the big nose girl was so ridiculous. The Russian General acting all insane was pathetic but it's nothing compared to the way they rewrote an actual historical event just to paint the russians as evil.

Any chance of a single-player campaign or is that a thing of the past?

If anything, this game is the most likely to have a single-player campaign given the promos. I think a lot of people, even normies, didn't like that Black Ops 4 was multiplayer-only.

Even the Modern Warfare reboot last year had a single-player mode, even if it was flimsy as usual. I suspect this one will also have a flimsy single-player campaign but it's also the most likely to have a campaign worth a damn from the looks of things.

I dunno why they didn't have an Assad analogue. It would have been much more palatable than Russians as the enemy. But come on, the original Modern Warfare had big bad Russians as the enemy. It's a trademark.

Very much agreed. MW was set in a fictional Arab country that mirrored Syria and its civil war (somewhat). But it was implemented in a very cliche and cartoonish way.

Russians led by a rogue general unexpectedly invading Urzikstan twenty years ago to stop "terrorists" (who were never fully explained or seen) with no invitation of the Urzikstan government (whom doesn't exist in the game) and no international condemnation until now in the game. Al-Qatala was supposed to be the ISIS/AQ of the game but stripped of the religious elements in order not to offend Muslims. Which left the goals of the terror group vague and hard to understand.

Regardless IW went more for shock and awe than making a more coherent story for the game.

The only COD that didn't have a single player was Black Ops 4

Every other COD has had one, no matter how long or short.

Exactly, and something tells me that the backlash against Infinite Warfare and Black Ops 4 mean that Activision is more likely to give the single-player story campaign a fair shake, especially for a title like this one. I'm not sure how detailed or long the Modern Warfare remake's story was, but it was definitely there.

I smell a russian bogyman from this but propaganda or no, it'll at least be more interesting than your standard CoD story.
I'm not really into CoD but Black Ops is considered to be the better written out of the bunch i think, they might be trying to do something serviceable for once.
Good hustle, but i'm not holding my breath.
With bogeyman being a possibility, I can't wait to see how much screeching the game gets such as being propaganda that could totally fuel the US military or using some real life atrocity that'll anger Russians beyond some vatnik boomers. All that said, Black Ops is the better written one since, at least with the first, it felt more like an action movie that was fun to play through and doing shit that would seem ridiculous such as numbers and the like.

Whether or not this Black Ops reboot can tell a decent story, I think we can all agree that the teaser really opened some eyes. Especially in this political climate.
With the time period the trailer is suppose to take place in, one could imagine some group such as tankies getting riled up.

It's one of the issues that I had with the story. Al-Qatala should have been like ISIS, the brother should have been the leader, the girl should have been the most extreme of the two and gave the order to steal the trucks. It's weird how there was no mention of their religion. It would have made the CIA story more interesting than a remake of Dances with Wolves.

inB4 "Perseus" is Bezmenov. I mean there's no way they will portray him as a good or even neutral character, since the guy was right all along.

One of the quotes that will show on the screen when you get killed in-game:

"Dat ethnic pussy got me actin' strange." - Yuri Bezmenov

They did a campaign only release of a few games without any multiplayer attached to it. I dunno if this one would have it since it's new, it's been mostly for older titles.

Hm, I'm kinda split on this. I did like Black Ops because I thought the Cold War would be nice for a CoD setting, plus 'Nam and Afghanistan are places rarely get approached even in games. On the other hand, this whole "true events" makes me roll my eyes and the MW remake/prequel was just so "MUH RUSSIA BAD! CIA/US HEROES!!" like man was that game just cringe-inducing at times.

Eh, as cucked as the new Modern Warfare was, I can see why they kept the "muh Russia bad" narrative and intentionally downplayed the Islam angle of it all. As bad as the Woke Left can be with cancel culture and rioting, I don't see any Antifa punks driving the communist equivalent of the Truck of Peace into Activision HQ over being depicted as bad guys anytime soon.

I don't think they'll have Bezmenov as Perseus since he's still alive and can sue for defamation and libel. They probably had to get his permission to use his likeness and I doubt a disciplined ex-KGB agent would be lazy enough to not read the script.

I think Bezmenov will be seen as either a good guy or at worst, a neutral guy no matter how the game turns out. I do think it's likely that they'll try to tie the KGB subversives into the "Russian Collusion" narrative but I don't see them going full woke beyond that, because I'm pretty sure some blue-haired dyke or troon punk in the HR department would've raised hell over the "Nazi dogwhistles" in the mere mentioning of Yuri's name.

How on earth did the Marketing team manage to get that trailer past the censors? I just watched it and I could not help feeling they weren't really advertising a game.

Maybe the censors within Activision's upper ranks are secretly becoming fed up with the Woke Left as much as we are and were willing to look the other way on this one.

Despite constant "hurr durr what are we conserving?" sperging of fedora Christians, there's an upper limit to how much insanity one can take before they snap and fight back. For the kind of people who'd be at the Activision equivalent of Standards & Practices, the fighting back would be done via malicious compliance and feigned ignorance.

Your typical normie watching that trailer is going to think it's talking about the Russiagate nonsense. A few might actually look up Bezmenov's full interviews and come away with a different impression, but how many people do you think will actually do that? 1%?

Haven't played a Call of Duty since the original modern warfare back on my 360. That was like ten years ago I think, damn.

I'm surprised that the same company that's 5 percent owned by Tencent, and banned a Liberate Hong Kong supporter let this through.
I'll probably look it up when it releases.

Yuri Bezmenov died in 1993. Officially, the cause was a heart attack due to alcoholism. Although, some people think that he might still be alive cause the tards at wikipedia failed to provide enough sources for it.

Either way, it's good to see this guy get some recognition in popular media.

Edit:
In case anyone's curious, I did an internet search and got an archive of a thread about his death on a site named 4plebs. Which I assume is an old version of 4chan.

Looks like even people on Wikipedia have asked when and how he died.

Could've sworn he was still alive or that he died very recently. Might've been thinking of some other high-profile KGB defector.

Still, I'm sure his estate would probably sue for libel if Activision tried to pull a fast one and make him some deep cover Russian supervillain. Including him in promotional material at all is one of those warning signs that lets you know the cultural narrative is starting to change.
