Call of Duty Thread - Potential return to form? Or nothing but cope on the horizon? You decide!

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Boy do I despise game journalists.

Incorporating a real-life historical and political figure — one whose tenure still has controversial effects on modern-day politics, including the imminent 2020 election — is definitely a move. It’s an even weirder one when you consider what the trailer has Reagan doing: ordering you, the player, and your fellow clandestine operatives to essentially break the law and commit potential war crimes in order to save the “free world.”

It’s a good thing Reagan is here to reassure us, the players, that what we’re doing is in fact Good, or else Call of Duty fans everywhere might get the wrong impression about America’s role in geopolitical conflicts around the globe. Can’t have that happening!

Just the smuggest people with nothing to be smug about.

They should have used this in the CoD trailer and had Blue Monday start playing after he said AW SHUT UP .

Game about fighting communists immediately bows down to communists, China wins again
View attachment 1552245

So, what if they removed a brief snippet of footage? China was going to ban the game anyway and it'll probably get pirated heavily over there anyway.

Ever heard the term "Cover Your Own Ass"? This is an example of that.

Everyone and their mother knows the CCP are like petulant and spoiled children with egos more fragile than the average college leftist or inner-city hood rat and that they engage in cyber war with any Western companies they don't like.

Hell, North Korea nearly got a major movie cancelled thanks to cyber-warfare and they're far more backwards and utterly impotent than China is.

You'll win this utterly meaningless token issue, and you'll lose in the long run. Better hope Three Gorges Dam holds up for the rest of the decade. Even if it survives 2020, there's already enough damage from all the other floods that another really bad rain season would end up leaving the People's Republic of China imperially fucked in the ass with no lube.

All you communists are bound to lose.

And despite your impending autistic screeching and strawman tactics, I'm neither a libertarian or a conservative.

So far with the game itself not even being out yet, it managed to attract one kind of a funny response.

Much as one can go on with CoD shifting from killing Nazis to being war crimes, how many of the games even end up having the player do that? The only non-WW2 titles I played were the original MW games and Black Ops and the MW games pretty much as far as I saw with "Russian bad guys" could be justified in being total war against an entity that doesn't mind shooting civilian evac vehicles in the second game or executing Czech people in the third game.

That other Black Ops
A ton of Strategy Games
Spic Ops the Line
Shock Troopers for the NeoGeo

But really who cares about the latest marketing gimmick for a four hour campaign that's about as fun to play as watch on youtube?

Considering those, it makes one wonder if they even played those games? With Spec Ops the Line though, one could argue it's just there to beat you on the head for being a monster which is something a lot of them could hold onto every time there could be a new COD.

One thing they Treyarch needs to keep in their games is the pick 10 system.

When it was introduced in BO2, i would do everything from run only rocket launchers and 2 C4s to combat knifes/Concussion grenades. At least keep :optimistic: for that for this new one.

Slightly unrelated but Ubisoft did a trailer depicting "BLM" imagery as the antagonists. Raised fist. Long story short, Ubisoft caved and is removing said imagery.

Can't say I'm surprised given how woke Ubisoft is even by the standards of their industry. Them and EA are to vidya what Disney is to movies.

At least Activision kept most of their balls intact and only removed the "blink and you miss it" clip of Tienanmen Square, which considering they kept damn near everything else intact is actually kind of relieving.

If they were to fully cuck out like Ubisoft, they'd removed all references to Yuri Bezmenov

You'll get your over complicated garbage that requires you to do 400 step easter eggs just to turn on the fucking power and you'll like it!
I wish Zombies was more straight forward like Gears of War's Horde Mode, that shit would be awesome.

Really, why do I need a fucking online walkthrough open just to know what I should be doing?

I dunno about being woke, since Ubisoft catches shit for the Far Cry games or the Division series.

Never forget examples from those such as:
-Pagan Min being seen as colonialism or something like that when the game was first revealed because people didn't have much info then yet some people thought he had to be a protag
-FC 5 getting some buggered people because they wanted to shoot Trumptards as the main bad guys rather than a crazy Christian doomsday cult
-The Division 2 wasn't political as said by someone from Ubisoft which set off some people because "muh dogwhistles." Maybe by political they could of meant something else beyond a plot idea of "DC is like New York where people have guns and somehow there's no order.

Also add FC3 to that list as "Muh white savior helping tribal ppl against pirates!".

They need to strike a balance with that. Not just be killing things in an enclosed area, and have a couple fun puzzles to do. Not these outrageous scavenger hunts and setups where everybody has to do X specific thing AT ONCE.

I heard that the Infinite Warfare and WWII iterations were more like you proposed, or at least were less cryptic.

I don't know myself, I never tried them out after I played that bullshit map that launched with Black Ops III.
