I find it fascinating how Redditors are now as anti-immigration as many of the right wingers they look down upon.
All it took was five years for them to realize that you can’t have high immigration numbers and still have a high trust society with decent healthcare.
It only took five years of living with the consequences of their voting habits to make them realize that shoving millions of people into the country is the leading cause of a housing crisis.
Took them only five years of seeing entire communities be turned into little India for them to show that their tolerance has limits.
It’s so fascinating. Just five years ago they’d downvote people for saying there’s too much immigration because of Muh Racism. Now that it affects them personally, you get downvoted for making “muh cuisine” cope.
Many such cases.
Been there on many issues (the trans one, on the dangers of safe injection sites, on locking down the economy during covid eliminating small businesses, on how the rent is getting too high and we need to limit Chinese investment, on how the mass graves of native kids are just propaganda, etc).
Each time, years later,
only when forced to change their opinion, do they change it.
But it is never "you were right, I was a blithering mouth drooling bootlicking moron"
Its: "Well, your tone was wrong, you could have said it nicer, you could have framed the situation in a way that was better for me to understand".
I'm honestly tired of these people and being right. Its not even the way that its being framed. Ive tried being nice, beating around the bush, trying to use language or come from a position that they would
understand. "Hay, all this mass immigration is going to cause a depreciation of wages, shouldn't we worry about this affecting the working class? -Reeeeeeee RACIST DOG WHISTLE. They will see whatever it is that they want from what you are saying, and
then blame you for
them ignoring it.
Most, if not all, of these people are morons and its a waste of time to be in a country with them, to be frank. Conversely, in regards to social things, this has probably made me value individual liberties even more. I would like a society where the individual is protected from the mobs ability to push them off a cliff. Increasingly, this is no longer the case in Canada.
Lost too many friends for stating the obvious years in advance of the majority of the population realizing their errors, call it mad at the internet, but don't really care any longer. Most times, I'm here to do my own thing, and redditors/popular Canadian society can go to hell. In some sense, at the least I've had a head start on trying to ensure my affairs were in order while it takes years for others to realize that the ship has been sinking. That may be the best thing a doomsayer can really have.
I honestly think that there's some sort of liberal mind virus, to use the term. Half the time, youre not talking to a person who has thoughts, opinions, or perspectives on their own. Theyre just talking off points that
their side has pushed into where a brain used to be.
