The conservatives lost because they didn't give voters a good enough reason to vote for them once the guy people hated was no longer the person they had to vote for.

Canada does not have the bargaining chip because we do not have a military industrial complex.

Canada hasn't been militarily relevant since the end of the Second World War to be frank. We have stints in Eastern Europe, and obviously the Middle-East, but that's out of NATO obligations, we have no projection capabilities whatsoever. We can't claim peacekeeper status anymore, we haven't had the budget for that since the 1990's, and Canadians today don't want to budget for that. What is the bargaining chip, exactly?

To me, when you import the Third World, you'll find that you have less stamina to budget troops for peacekeeping missions since you've brought the Third World to your doorstep.
