Trudeau desperately wants to fight Poilievre out of sheer ego. It doesn't matter that polls are saying that Poilievre is the preferred choice for Prime Minister, he believes that he can defeat Poilievre on the power of his brand alone. I would like to believe in Poilievre because he says the "right" things, but time and experience taught me to never take what a politician says at face value. Look at how many people who voted for Trudeau in 2015 have buyers remorse eight years later. Maybe PP will reduce taxes, slash spending, and cut red tape, but I doubt that he can or is even willing to fix the foundational flaws of confederation.

The only politicians I remotely respect are Premiers Danielle Smith and Scott Moe of Alberta and Saskatchewan for openly resisting federal overreach after Doug Ford cucked out to Trudeau. I'm not too optimistic about Alberta, though. Edmonton is as diseased as Ottawa/GTA while Calgary is slowly getting there. Fuck, Lethbridge West voted NDP because it's where the university is. It can't fix the problem because of safetyism. It believes that harm reduction is the only good, it gets itself into catch-22s.

For example, there was a drug dealer in Mississauga who caused 3 fentanyl overdoses in the same social circle. All of these happened in his drug den, but the police can't use this evidence to arrest him. Why? Because if they were allowed, drug dealers would prevent their druggies from calling 9/11, which might kill them. So instead he keeps poisoning people, and the health care system keeps taking 9-1-1 calls to save them, because any amount of wasted effort is better than a single attributable death (even though 2 out of 3 of those died anyway).

If you operate with these ideological constraints, making it legal to sign one's own death warrant seems like a godsend. You can't address why there is a massive self-destructive subculture ensnaring your lower classes because that might cause harm (and its causes cannot be understood by your clinical mindset), but you can stop the cycle of saving them from themselves.
