Don't get me wrong- wouldn't be bad,
but I'm just pointing out: I look at things like this

and it just baffles me. We have literally more oil than Russia and Norway.
If you look at the US, after they allowed fracking, they became a net exporter of oil, and then 2 years later (in 21) the world's largest supplier.
I get it as well, there's environmental issues at stake, but when you've gotten rid of manufacturing, when people can't buy houses, when an entire population is underemployed and amazon or walmart are some of the biggest employers, the question of should we be trying to access our oil really should be poised. It almost feels like being a medieval peasant dying in the midst of winter because they can't chop trees in the kings forest, because he wants to preserve its natural beauty.
Not even saying that fracking, oil drilling, naval oil rigs, etc should become widespread (I do adore the beauty of Canada's wilderness)- but I really think we should loosen, even just a little bit more, our current regulations on where and what can be drilled.
If you look at Alberta, we had a situation where numerous propositions for pipelines were shut down, the ones with more government contracts were allowed (heres where I get conspiratorial and say that the liberal government wants more government control of this industry, and is anti private business and investment), pipelines can't go through native reservations, theres major issues with national parks, etc.
Its a situation where I truly think we are shooting ourselves in the foot right now.
