Why do the Canadian left always blames Americans whenever the Canadian right shows any backbone?
I've mentioned this in reply to someone earlier in the thread, specifically with NorTel in mind.
I think the real beginning of the end was long before NorTel, beginning with the Avro affair. Prior to this we were partners with the U.S., and post-Avro we more of a farm team. I agree that the dotcom era was a big fuck-up. Canada was a top hub for internet traffic at the time, mostly due to disparity of the legal situation between Canada and the US. Porn and gambling being huge amounts of traffic, there were issues with real money gambling online back then and even pokerstars used all kinds of offshore shady shit to allow people in the US to gamble. Quebec, in particular was a massive hub for internet pornography.
Nortel allowed China to have the technical ability, but the regulatory environment and our relationship with the country with the largest body of Internet users at that time (the US), would've largely allowed us to stay on top. Then after 9/11, Canada reaching for parity with US on the Patriot Act and (((copyright))), was really the last nail. Privacy and anonymity were the amongst the paramount considerations for internet users back then. A lot of traffic on the internet was grey market
Because they are trying to insinuate that a conservative Canadian couldn’t possible come up with a different opinion because WE ARENT THE FILTHY AMERICANS! Which is funny, because most Canadians behave like American Democrats. My belief is that most Canadians have become trans-americans, and to paraphrase certain poorly postured, fart porn making troon, believe that "It's not about being an American, it's about being better than an American." Once you realize this, so much of the Canadian political landscape makes sense. Trudeau and Singh both want to be American politicians, but are embarrassed by geography.
A long-held belief of mine is that the federal government (particularly left-wing parties) operate under the assumption that they can "guide" the markets through regulation and incentives. The Trudeau government is pushing for a cap on O&G production and for a net-zero power grid by 2035, which provinces like Alberta stridently oppose due to it being infeasible. Similarly, the Feds are "investing", or more accurately, resorting to corporate welfare to bribe companies like Volkswagen and Stellaris to build battery plants for electric vehicles and legislating quotas to create artificial demand for them. It's not so much socialism as the government is not ceasing the means of production as it closer to fascism because the government is still trying to control it through more indirect means.
I say we force them to live in downtown Toronto and work at nothing better than a Burger King or some shit to get by. Let them kill themselves.

I'm usually aware of them. I simply don't give a flying fuck 99% of the time because I can do absolutely nothing about the situation. It reminds me of all these dumb young women on social media that think making celebrities post about denouncing wars somehow fixes anything.
It is, Trudeau basically runs against Trump, and makes vague aspersions to his opponents being American, and anything that defies him is American thought. A ton of Canadians are also under the belief that voting for Trudeau is something that will make Trump mad. It's wild, I assume the average Canadian is retarded at this point.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they are too arrogant to consider it. Singh will get his pension (and other corrupt funds) if he just waits a bit, and Trudeau is mentally disabled.
