It’s mildly amusing seeing the attempted spin of “well you vote for the person, not the party”, like some of these Ridings aren’t fuck huge and the odds of knowing whoever the fuck you’re voting for beyond which party they’re running for are astronomically low.

Certain professions, especially financial you can lose your accreditation and your job over it if you get caught. Canada's best leverage is for America to not think about it at all. Its why Canada gives the USA unimpeded access to the Saint Lawrence river and the Great Lakes to complete the North American Intracoastal waterway network as the most glaring example.

Of course, this leverage also assumes that Ottawa can sustain a national identity that is "Canadian" as opposed to "American". That has always been the conflict at the core of Canada's national identity. And it is one Ottawa has deliberately undermined in the last few decades in the name of progressivism, culminating in Trudeau claiming Canada is a post national state. Essentially saying "Canadian" is a dead letter identity.

Foolish move considering the identity of "American" is right there and has been available for anyone in the great white north to take if they want for two centuries now.

Canada will never get better because anyone worth a damn will move to the US. There are enough states in the Union for whatever flavor of ambitious Canuck. I live in a border state and only dumb rich girls brag about healthcare or test scores based on one school in Vancouver when it was mostly chinks cheating on standardized test scores.

If I ask them why they are in the US it’s usually the same answer “where I could use my degree/ parents had connections/ pays better”.

It’s really that issue with Canada. Any disgruntled Canadian go over the bridge or border and make something of themselves easier. I’m struggling to find a better paying job in the US, but Canada is more depressing. Both countries have annoying tax benefits to hire foreigners, but the US you still have more chances.

Gladu crossing has broken the theatre around this issue because there's no way to square the circle of anti-vax, pro-life, social conservative in a deep blue riding happily jumping to the antithesis party.
