Capcom Unveils Its New Dinosaur Game, Exoprimal - Dino Crisis Fans Ignored Yet Again

The thing with Onimusha is Capcom evidently used to have this policy that a series would only have a set number of entries and then conclude in favor of a new generation of new series.

They stated that Onimusha was only meant to be a trilogy and hyped up the third game as the "grand finale" which is probably why Dawn of Dreams was met with a shrug since they hyped up Onimusha "ending" and then expect people to get excited for another game two years later?, RE4 was originally slated to be the finale of Resident Evil, obviously Capcom changed their minds about this but Onimusha was evidently a victim of this older mindset.
Owwwwch, that depressingly makes sense. I had no idea they had that policy.

Oh well, we at least did get Nioh, and that can said to be Onimusha's bastard child by the milkman.

When was this established? Cause like Mega Man and Street Fighter kind of makes that seem untrue.

Nobody ever came out and said it, but I'm just assuming that since Onimusha 3 was originally stated to be the end of the series and RE4 was stated to originally be intended as the finale of Resident Evil, that was just an attitude that, outside of cashcows like Street Fighter and Mega Man, series that had more cinematic flair wouldn't just keep going and going but have endings like a movie series would (or used to).

Obviously they had a change of heart for Resident Evil, but there are still series that ran it's course like Onimusha, Dino Crisis and Maximo that have yet to get revivals.

I don't recall them ever saying that about Resident Evil 4. Resident Evil 4 doesn't even work as a proper "finale" as it ends with sequel bait with Ada.

I still don't understand why Shadow of Rome so sank without a trace other than being released right before DMC3 and after RE4, same deal with Haunting Ground.

But Haunting Ground managed to squire a cult following over time, Shadow of Rome is unknown even to most Capcom diehards, the game has some obvious flaws but still deserved more attention than it got.
You answered your own question. DMC3 was the game that put DMC back on the map and people were still crazy about RE4. Could also be the stealth elements they incorporated into it, considering a lot of people think that if it isn't Metal Gear a game can't do "proper" stealth. Could also be the combo system wasn't exactly what people were expecting, how linear the game is...

Personally, as much as I like action/brawlers, I liked the stealth sections more. Something about strangling roman senators speaks to me on an emotional level.

stealth sequences
Those are always some of the legitimately worst things in games. Like Jesus Christ, did they really need to add a fucking stealth mission to Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, a game about explody spaceships?

Capcom: "We're introducing a new game, a game about a crisis involving dinosaurs, a "dino crisis" if you will, you can also play as a redheaded female character, we call the game... EXOPRIMAL!"
You should thank your lucky stars this isn't a new Dino Crisis.

Even imagining attaching Regina's name to whatever the fuck this western looter shooter protagonist looking thing is makes me shudder.

Title didn't do it any favors. Sounds generic as hell.
