I'd say something like VPNs are a more lucrative target for them, now that the barn door is open.

ISPs have been collecting (or wanting to collect) customer metadata for a long time, and VPNs interfere with that.
It also makes other stuff harder, like throttling video unless you pay extra etc.

It's not just ANY Thursday, it's the Thursday before a literal Christmas weekend. It's extremely likely that people either are getting or will take Friday off from work, and likewise Monday as well, if not the entire week through to the first week of January.

If there was any single time to do this, now was the time because it has the maximum chance of doing the most damage (or at least inconveniencing people) with the ISP engineers at their weakest in terms of manpower.

I don’t think they’ll do it. I have a feeling that would affect other services. From what I’ve seen, most VPN services rent out servers from other providers. If they block a ASN of one of those providers, they would be blocking a lot more than just VPNs. Then again, I could be wrong.
