I forget to say in the SJW art thread, but the designs are hideous, which is a shame too, cause the fox girl would have been a cool character if it didn’t have the identity politics thrown on it.

Why do these artist make them such an eyesore?

Interesting concept and not terribly drawn like a lot of OCs that end up here, but incredibly messy overall. Complimentary colours doesn't mean your OC won't look like a giant clusterfuck of stuff that'll be a bitch to draw every damn time.

Yeah it would look better if they got rid of all of the eyes and 6 nipples and tone it down with the fluff.
The creator could have made the design more simple and easier on the eyes. Like, I can’t tell what kind of creature this thing is.
Apparently there a closed species called Impims .

It says a lot about how samey these things are that I immediately assumed this was just a weird Grem design.

I've been realizing more and more that furries having 'characters' is no longer about the character itself. they just collect design after design because the art looks 'pretty' or is unique or follows the latest trend or whatever. I miss when furries had plain designs but batshit backstories involving magic or was some insane scifi shit. that was at least creative and hilarious to follow

It's definitely still a thing people having fursonas and also having characters alongside it for stories or rp or whatever who are not representations of themselves, but yea, the whole adoptable market is literally just buying a character because it's 'rare' or something and often just reselling it again once it has enough new art to raise the price. It's incredibly disconnected from the idea of having deep, meaningful characters for your own universes and more along the lines of trading cards.

Character adoptable are just the furry stock market.

Either that or the fetish shit down the alley. There's three options.

Man it's a real shame, I don't HATE this design but it's not good for it's intended purpose. Like if I had seen this in some kind of standalone art piece, not as a character design but as it's own painting or something it'd be rad. But SINCE it's a reference I just feel sorry for whatever other artist gets commissioned to draw it. It's so ridiculously complex it's really not worth drawing more than once.

Yep I can tell you that closed species and adoptables are some of the biggest rip-offs that i'v ever seen . I would love to a thread on the closed species and adoptables community but i'm too much of a lazy new fag.

How to properly use an adoptable:
  1. Find a good design
  2. Redraw but make it legally distinct
  3. Don't spend $50 on a design
  4. Profit!
Or just make your own designs if you have any sense of creativity.

Seriously, why would you spend a fortune on a character you won't even feel attached to? Most adoptables charge an arm and a leg for a basic big-tiddied anthro. If they say, "it's for the art included", their art ain't worth spit.

People like buying shit from artists they like, even more if buying that art gives them licence to use the character involved for personal stuff. Not everyone is an artist so the "just design your own" argument doesn't really work unless the buyer is also a character designer. Buying adoptables is literally just paying someone to do a job you can't do.

People are going to spend money to own things. That's how the exchange of money and goods works. However, when an artist puts unnecessary restrictions onto designs that were clearly lifted from existing concepts or characters and then have the gall to send their fanbase at anyone who buys it and intends to actually do something with it, that's when you have a problem.

Basically, I've seen big artist put people on their blacklists just because they had no idea they sold or traded designs by that artist to other people on that blacklist because they changed handles/names. I've seen artist blacklist people because they have a similar style even. The thing is there's very few artists who have a legally binding T.O.S. The people selling on deviantart or furaffinity more than likely have no lawyer that can make their T.O.S actually hold meaning. They just typed out all the rules themselves and no one is bound to follow them because shockingly whoever is paying for the character or design is no the copyright holder for it. They own all rights to it. Yet you have the designers yank characters away for small things without refunding and then reselling them to other people. You just have to be super careful and look around to see if the designer has a bad history.

Artist also have a really bad habit of revoking rights to their Closed species if anything even remotely looks like an "Off-brand" and starting drama over it. A big example of that would be Scarfox with a user who had a character with scarf hands. The community flew into absolute rage over it to the point they harassed the user, blacklisted them and continued smearing their name around. There has been instances of this account here:
However, This is not the first instance of a Closed species community doing this and brings us right back around to how unoriginal closed species can be and the level of stupidity they can sink just to preserve their unoriginal ideas.

Scarfoxes, Grems, and Cinnadogs are some of the worse closed species. Scarfoxes are usually upwards of a couple of hundreds to thousands of dollars to get and their fans will attack anything even with large scarf hands as being a fake scarfox. Grems are generally shitty and will now permanently ban/blacklist you if you void a grem from being in the species (Basically saying you no longer want them to be a Grem and don't want them on the masterlist) even if you made the design yourself and not the owner or a guest artist. Cinnadogs I've heard the owner of has had a bad history of design theft, character revoking, and generally tism fits that makes the species a nightmare to deal with.

Some CS communities are better than others but that doesn't stop from how unoriginal they usually are. It's even joked about by some owners and then some owners will get so offended by rip off/off brand species they will blacklist from do anything of that species and people who own it.

What you said makes me think we should have a closed species thread, what do you guys think?
