It's a common urban larp to plant some crappy little garden and pretend you are "farming". Yeah, no. Even if done right it is, at best, a diet supplement. A majority needs to be proper farm crops like grain/legumes to create enough calories to subsist. Then there is the problem of having to store/process all of the produce you get from a garden. Spoilage is always a huge issue. Whereas grain you just have to keep it cool and dry and it will be good for the winter.

You aren't fixing any food problems by doing this. Victory gardens were never a good idea. You piss away more resources making the damn things than you would get back out. The incompetence in crop selection, setup, tending, and storage are too large to overcome.

This whole mess is because they do quick google searches on subjects that reaffirm their biases and don't think anything is out of their reach. It's the old hippy "love and determination will see us through" line of thought but with internet "experts" backing it.

I need you guys to know some Seattle/Capitol Hill facts so you all can truly understand and appreciate how fucking insane and LARP-y these demands are:

Rent Control: The average rent for a studio in Capitol Hill is $1,600/month (the average household income is also $80,000 a year, BTW). There was a STUDIO CONDO on sale across the street from CHAZ on Pike St that was selling for $250,000 just a few years back. There have been tons of new luxury apartment buildings built in the area over the past decade because of Amazon, and most of them have several empty units because they'd rather let them go empty than lower rent. Rent control will NEVER happen. Before Amazon's boom, the northeast corner of CHAZ was an impound lot for the city and you couldn't walk 5 ft without running into a homeless person shooting up heroin as they yell at you for change (now you can't walk 3 ft without running into a homeless person shooting up heroin as they yell at you for change AND there are nicer buildings!). Besides the financial dynamic of the neighborhood, they're also leaving out the racial dynamic of the neighborhood and Seattle in general: the people who got "gentrified" out were the white faggots who made it livable in the first place.

Black Doctors: Where CHAZ is is the only part of Capitol Hill that's in the 98122 ZIP code, while the vast majority of Capitol Hill is in the 98102 ZIP code. The 80% of 98122 that isn't in Capitol Hill is made from the only "historically black" neighborhood in Seattle, The Central District, which is where Jimi Hendrix is from. I have no clue why the ZIP code lines are drawn like that, though, since Capitol Hill and the Central District are like night and day. 98122 is 17% black (hilariously low for the "most black" neighborhood in a major US city). The whole of the city of Seattle itself is only 7% black (just half the national average). 98102 aka the majority of Capitol Hill is fucking 2% black. Nigger, there aren't even enough black patients in Capitol Hill let alone fucking black doctors. Also of note, a large chunk of these "blacks" are Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Somali immigrants

Federal Investigation: This is the stupidest one to me. SPD HAS BEEN UNDER FEDERAL OVERSIGHT SINCE 2011!!! They only just stopped oversight literally a few months ago because the leftist city council deemed the SPD "transformed" (worthy of note, though, is that violent crime has gone up in Seattle since 2014 so obviously not a relevant metric to the city council). The federal oversight, BTW, was to ensure the SPD complied with a leftist made consent decree basically in line with BLM doctrine. So they're basically just asking for more of the same shit aka they have no fucking clue what they want.

TL;DR: Rich white trustifarians with a leftist-decreed "racism free" police force demand even more leftist polices as violent crime and homelessness increase.

Kshama Sawant and others had been promoting rent control for a while. IMHO, this usually only leads to housing shortages and has the opposite effect. Most leftist policies backfire anyway, be that rent control or the zoning laws or afforable housing projects, because virtually all leftist policies are based on completely the wrong presmises. Similar things have happened in any other progressive place, such as San Francisco or New York.

These people will never accept that deregulation and the free market will be better tools to improve the situation then state intervention. It is like a man looking for his lost key at night indoors, even though he lost it outdoors, because there is more light inside.

I can't find it now but one of the Reddit discussions about Raz one of the responses was 'He's gone away now'. As if that solves the hard problem of how you deal with criminals without rebuilding the whole apparatus of the state and police you've overthrown. "Unless you're being attacked right now, what's the issue?" Even though the police they got rid of weren't oppressing every black person 24/7.

This is typical of Anarcho Communists of course. When people find concrete examples of why their opinions are shit, they just brush it off.

I'm not showing other veggies I grow, but you get the point.
And even then I still go buy other food - I don't only eat potatoes and veggies after all.
Even if they won't get BTFO by NG and won't get their water and electricity cut off, they'll all starve to death, I guarantee it.

CHAZ should have been positioned near a coastline. If the leaders thought of getting boats and fishing nets, they could obtain quite a bit of seafood. Their garden is pathetic and won’t even feed more than 10 people at the most. If they learned the planting season, potatoes would be much better in terms of calories than tomatoes. Additionally, building fire pits would also be essential. It’s a good thing they’re only LARPing because they would all die of starvation if they couldn’t leave and were given no outside help.

Wild guessing on my part, but I think their argument would be some variant of "we're not taking land away from the people! We're taking the land away from the state and giving it to the residents and the businesses! And look at how grateful they are!".
